Do you have any idea how little 4K is in the real world? Wonder why so many people are in trouble when they're out of work for a month?

Consider the $30 for Leopard plus the daily Starbucks + Netflix + Cable + iPhone service + electric + water/sewage + mortgage + property taxes + home insurance + car payment + car insurance + gasoline + groceries, etc. etc. If you've got 4K in the bank and you think you're sitting pretty you're sadly mistaken. Nevermind if you have kids, get sick, need a new roof, etc. $30 here and $30 there, over the course of a year, can do more damage than some large purchases.

How does a person decrease his chances of being in the soup line in a month if he loses his job? If you have no income, you have to spend less.

And anyway, the victim in this case is the one who brought up his mortgage. His mortgage has absolutely nothing to do with some technical glitch at Paypal/Apple/etc. He opened the door for personal scrutiny.

Actually - do you have any idea how insane this comment sounds when coming from a citizen of country that is going to be bankrupt NEXT WEEK.

Yeah - thought so...

Anyway - I also have to pay all the stuff you mentioned and by the way have to run a business. I myself have NOTHING in the bank. That doesn't stop me from occasional 30 bucks purchases (being cigarettes, BluRays, XBox games, books). And I'm perfectly happy about it.

Some people don't have credit cards (for whatever reason). However, merchant dispute resolution and fraud protection are two very good reasons to have a credit card.

So some people will use PayPal and link it to a bank account. Sadly, a few are foolish enough to link it to a primary checking account.

By far the safest way to fund iTunes or App Store purchases is to buy gift cards and refill your account that way. There's no way I could be double charged to download Lion; there's not enough in my iTunes account right now to cover the second charge.

A very smart comment!;)

If losing $3658.78 is keeping you from paying your mortgage rate, then you've got more serious problems. If you can't survive without income for 6 months, you're probably living above your means. I mean, you could get sick, crash your car, need to pay for a relative's funeral...

I recommend having 2 bank accounts, one for paying bills that you fill up regularly and another one for safekeeping, stock trading, etc. I personally wouldn't recommend a savings account though in this current economic situation. If you're in the Euro-Zone or North America, get yourself some gold and silver to maintain your wealth during the following years.

Still, this kind of error shouldn't happen. Why would you buy ANYTHING on the app store twice? I assume Apple has some safeties in place that prevent you from buying the same virtual thing more than once. Multiple licenses (if you have to buy for a company for instance) should not be handled via one-click.

It might be paypal in which case you can contact your bank and get that money back. If your bank doesn't allow that, you need a different bank.

I wonder how much Apple would have to charge for Lion, apps, iPads, etc., if the only people who purchased $29.99 OS ugrades were people with $10k in the bank (or however much someone "OUGHT" to have in the bank before making a $30 upgrade to their computer), as some of you "this is what is wrong with America" snots have been suggesting.

Puh-leaze!

What if he'd had $10k in the bank and they charged him 400 times??? Would that still prove he's an irresponsible deadbeat and everything that's wrong with America? I guess before you make a $30 purchase, you ought to have $30,000 in the bank, right?

Arrogant people with money crack me up.

It is 100% Apple or Paypal's fault.

And yes I would reconsider discretionary items if I had $1100 in the bank and approx. $2000 of monthly expenses.

I think you're missing the fact that this man did absolutely nothing wrong. He made a $30 purchase. He didn't blow $300 at a strip club. He didn't spend $800 on a jacuzzi. He spent $30 and was charged 122 time erroneously by a company through a third party. He's not a fault for anything and if someone were to be criticized it's Apple and PayPal. If you think that he's at fault for being screwed you're even dumber than should be legal. If you bought $80 in gas and the pump screwed up and charged you 50 times you're at fault for being broke? Get a clue dude.

Me too but now that much

I don't feel to bad. They only charged me 7 times. Now to wait for PayPal to put it back in my account!

Rick

Despite millions in the bank and a brokerage firm (so they tell me!), I still make judicious decisions before buying another electronic gadget that would be obsolete either the day I buy it, or a few months later.

It really is not necessary to have everything, right here and right now!

Spend wisely my young friends.....wealth is built by luck (rarely happens!) or time-tested hard word, sensible spending, and smart investing.

Buying a new devalued toy every year is not prudent!

This is great advice... If you have surplus income to save. Many people don't have surplus income anymore and are living paycheck to paycheck. People really need to stop looking down on others.

This just happened to me too. I've only been charged 7 times so far. Apple said it was an issue between Apple and PayPal and couldn't provide much reason/resolution other than to wait it out. Meanwhile I'm $210 short and in limbo while not knowing who has my money. I called today and Apple was much more diligent and three-way called PayPal with me to help locate my funds and get some answers as to why I was charged so many times.

Multiple iTunes Charges

I recently preordered the album 'All Things Bright and Beautiful' by Owl City. Upon release date, I was able to download the album flawlessly. The odd thing was that I kept getting an e-mail from Apple saying that they charged me too much for the album, although no excessive charges were present. They credited my account with 2 free songs as a result. The cool thing was, they sent me that exact same email over 10 times and I was able to get about 20 free songs credited to my account. I don't know if this fits under the same circumstances as this guy getting charged over and over, but something was screwy with their payment system. I didn't complain though, I loved the free music! :D

All forum members who do not own an AMEX. Go and pick one up. A little friendly advice.

Do not use credit cards (i.e. Visa / Mastercard)

Get an Amex charge all your weekly food / itunes / utilities your entire life on it.

Pay it off each month so the balance is zero. Do this every single month. It's safer b/c you aren't carrying around cash, AMEX is awesome at fraud protection, maybe the best at it and they have great customer service and have if not the best one of the best rewards programs.

Just do not be late in paying or not pay. They will wack you over the head with a mallet with fees and charges b/c it's not a card you carry a balance on.

ummmmmm, American Express card is a credit card.

Totally agree with you - but sometimes...

...well sometimes you have to spend some money on foolish things that are hobby. Yes - it really doesn't make any sense to drink champagne or eat caviar - or buy a new gadget.

But sometimes it's just fun. Or...well...addiction...like my bad smoking habit. And now I'm going out enjoying 0.30 € worth of tobacco. Just because I want to :D

ummmmmm, American Express card is a credit card.

American Express = Charge Card.

Visa / Mastercard = Credit Card.

There are subtle differences, the main one being you pay the AMEX in full every month. You can't snake around paying 20 bucks a month minimum payments on a few thousand dollar balance running up interest.
(having one I won't call prestigious but you need to have good credit. If you do fail to pay the balance in full they crush you beyond belief with interest.)

It is the responsbile way to control your finances. You only spend what you have. If you have 500 in cash in your checking account. Only spend 500 on the AMEX. use that 500 to pay the AMEX.

Thats fine and all but why not just pay off your visa every month. It seems amex just has less flexibility

I totally had to log in just to vote this down, even though 41 others already had. Possibly the jerkiest comment I've ever seen on macrumors. Is it lonely up there on your ivory pedestal?

you obviously did not log on early enough to read David305 comments.

No and no. A Visa or MC card can be a debit card, no credit involved. And try and get a Amex with no or a poor credit rating and they'll deny you. That's because Amex provide you credit for 30 days or whatever it is. Credit for a month is still credit. Other credit cards are revolving lines of credit, Amex is more of a 30 day loan that is available each 30 days.

All the rest of the stuff can be done with Visa or MC. Being irresponsible with money is entirely possible with Amex too.

I'm not a big fan of Pay Pal and if I had to bet, I would bet on the problem being with them. I always buy on the Internet with a credit card, then my money is never held hostage--and yes, for iTunes it is an American Express card. I know credit cards get a lot of people in trouble but I always pay them off in full when the bill comes due--that's how I budget my monthly expenses.

Oh--one other thing about American Express--I have an American Express Blue card--which is a credit card which charges interest if you don't pay up when the bill comes due.
