im not trying to make apple seem like the almighty can do nothing wrong here but if it was Apple's fault and he needs the money for his mortgage i feel as though they will compensate for him when its sorted out. i know they do give little rewards if they screw up an order like your computer is DOA when you receive it in the mail. i guess we will see what happens.

The App Store is having teething pains. I got charged 4 times and refunded 3 times for Lion over the course of 4 days.

Paypal - NEVER

This is just one more reason to always use credit cards online and never tie your actual bank account to any automated payment systems on the Internet.

I had a similar case with my iPad refund, never got that money back. Apple and Chase are horrible about that. I'm never buying online again. Cash only for large computer investments from now on.

This is horrible. Hopefully Apple comes to the rescue because I can almost guarantee that PayPal won't. PayPal is one of the shadiest/crappiest companies out there.

PayPal sucks. They accept no responsibility. I am wary of doing business with them. Best practice is to use a virtual card number for online purchases. Still, if he had bought directly via a credit card, I bet this would be resolved more quickly. I recently had my credit card company call *me* for a fraudulent charge. They fixed the issue then and there. Paypal? Forget about it...

I used to be really against credit cards, but I totally am becoming a believer in recent days. Thinking of starting one up to avoid this garbage myself.

iTunes charged my PayPay 6 times then credited it 6 times all within 90 seconds. So what does PayPal do the hit my account 6 times then put a hold in the refunds and of course charged me a fee and they wonder why I was annoyed. I now have not paid for my copy of Lion so I log into iTunes and look at a $30 bill for Lion ;)..I should have waited for a day or so

Are you psychic? Did you watch him click purchase 122 times? This isn't the only report of this happening.

Doesn't take a genius to know that is what probably happened. He was inpatient with DL time and kept clicking on it. Now we hold him up as a "victim" of technology. Duh!!!

If you're a mere $3K away from being broke and not being able to eat, pay your mortgage, etc., then an upgrade to Lion ought to be considered a luxury item, no?

Why? $29 is a far cry from $3000. What a ridiculous attitude.

You fail at understanding how the app purchasing system works.

didnt even know u could pay with paypal LOL guess i'll stick to giftcards

You can in the US. I'm in Canada, and we don't get PayPal as an option, just iTunes cards and credit cards. Not sure about other countries. I hope in the near future Apple allows other countries to use PayPal as a payment method.

This is why you NEVER use PayPal

Worst service ever created in the history of finance. With Visa or MC or AE or Discover, Apple and the CC company would have this worked out already regardless of whose fault it was.

who says he actually clicked it? something could have gone wrong system wise and it just added randomly purchase numbers

I noticed 3 days ago that my bank account is "processing" two (2) charges in the amount of $29.99...from Apple... I'm concerned!

Lesson.

Always link every single one of your bills to an American Express Card with Reward points.

Cell phone bill, cable bill, iTunes, utilities all go to the Amex. You get hotel points and only need to pay one bill instead of multiple.

also Amex has awesome fraud protection and support and they will dispute charges on your behalf and investigate.

I thought you had to enter your password each time a payment is made?

At times like this companies should stop pointing at each other and figure it out. Imagine the overdraft this guy could have gotten, that could have ended up costing him many times more than just $3000! I hope Apple refunded him not only that, but any damage this caused to his bank account and credit rating!

Maybe Apple thought his second name was Christmas, and he was Santa alter-ego and that he needed 122 copies to give out at christmas for all the boys and girls who ask for lion?

There must have been something wrong with their billing system last night. I was charged four times for the same app. I sent iTune store an email and was refunded within an hour.

some of you people are hilarious.

I'd venture to say a large percentage of people don't have more than 4,000 in their checking account. That being said, a $30 piece of software if you have 4,000 isn't an outrageous expense by any means.

Guy clearly deserves his money back and in a timely manner. Those who think he deserves to lose it, do you think there is high enough probability that if you purchase a 30 dollar item you may get charged 122 times for it? By that logic, i'd venture to say none of us should take the chance to purchase any items and our economy will come to a screeching holt. As a consumer you can reasonably expect to be charged the price for the item.

The money is gone, so someone has it, either pay pal or apple. And yes he should be paid interest. If I didn't have that money within 48 hours I'd be consulting an attorney

I thought you had to authorize each paypal purchase, and that they couldn't just auto-withdraw money.

When did paypal stop doing that... that was their coolest feature. I knew exactly when each payment was subtracted and I could authorize each one.

I guess he should've linked his itunes account to a credit card. That way he could still pay his mortgage.

And...that way the CC company can fight on his behalf with a dispute...much better than paypal....

I never touch my bank account....it only goes to the Mortgage and paying the CC bill, which itself is what i use for everyday purchases and groceries..Im a convencience credit card user.
