Ugh...Verizon said they couldn't do it the other day unless I put the order in...
They told me they could let me payoff the att next plan, but i had just gotten he previous phone 3 weeks ago and just gonna sell it.
May now have been able to do it since it was such a new plan

i'm honesty shocked and confused as to why the iphone upgrade program requires you to be tethered to a network. That's THE REASON why I am going with apple versus just AT&T Next. This makes no sense. You can't even get the Sim-free iphone 6s on apple's upgrade program.

it's actually making me sick knowing apple is in bed with all the major networks.

Well I tried tonight and had the phone in my reach. But the text verification took too long and I lost the 7+. See you tomorrow night Apple.com

Slightly dramatic :)

IF Apple wants to be able to put a device on a carriers network, then it has to follow their stipulations. The carriers would rather not have apple poach potential payment plan customers. Shrug...sucks I know

Well folks here is my story. I got tired of waiting for my 9/9 pre-order of t-mobile 7+ 128G which had a delivery date of 10/4-10/10. It was still processing even though some ordered after me got shipped and delivered next week.
None of my nearest stores which are more than 1.5hrs drive had them in stock also since launch day. This afternoon after church and waiting for lunch order pickup i happen to check using IUP link and was able to reserve an 7+
So i drove and picked up my Verizon 7+ mate black 128G and made sure during check to ring as device only since i didn't had verizon account and a full payment and walked out of apple store.
Was a gift to myself on my birthday :)
Long story short if you store has 7+ reserver it online and pickup either using carrier plan, full payment or IUP plan as you wish. Finally i got the world phone(CDMA+GSM) they call it rather than T-mobile version which is GSM only
Good luck for those still trying to buy using IUP link and reservation.

So you guys were right. I reserved an ATT 7 plus and tried to do t mobile IUP. No go. However, I am trying to work some magic. Lol

What I did was buy the phone full price. I then called t mobile and had them add the IMEI to their network. Then I'm going to attempt to return the phone and buy it immediately again with t mobile IUP. T mobile did add it without issue.

I need all the good vibes and luck I can get from everyone lol.

edit: added a screen shot from tmo help. I'm still not sure this will work but I'm a least a little hopeful at this point.

I'm also going to keep checking for t mobile plus devices online during this time because i could just return this ATT one and do IUP with the t mo one.

Sigh the things I do to give apple my money lol

Good luck - but I don't think it'll work. I returned a full price 7+ today (long story) and tried to buy that phone right back on the IUP and they said they couldn't do it. As a return that phone goes immediately back to Cupertino or wherever their warehouse for these things is. I kept the phone because they no longer had one available to replace the return phone.

Thanks for everyone who provided the links today. Picked up two Verizon Black 128gb 7+ phones.

Unfortunately my wife's phone was DOA. We purchased them through the IUP for the first time.

Is anyone familiar with how this will work? Can I just go to the store and exchange it for a new one?

This thread helped me score 2 iPhone 7 plus. 32 gb silver and 128 gb black.
Did the online reserve for Oakbrook, Illinois.

not really trying to be. It's not that there are carrier restrictions since apple SELLS sim free versions of previous phones. What's more ridiculous is that apple touted a world-free phone for the past 2 generations and have gone back on their word.

But what really grinds my gears is that there are three parties in an apple upgrade plan. Apple, apple's financier, and the carrier. Most likely, since apple isn't charging interest, apple probably takes a hit so apple's financier can make money. The carrier most likely subsidizes the loss to apple so at the end of the day, apple comes out ahead. Tmobile probably doesn't pay as much which is why you can't do it online, apple is forcing you to do it in store to maybe get you to buy other stuff.

Ok it still didn't work but now the plan is to activate it on att. Get a new account with them and everything. Then use my t mobile sim in it and cancel the att account. I'm going to talk to att right now to see what happens if you start an account and then cancel it.

This should work and I considered doing this with a Verizon model for later use with either TM or ATT. But there's really no point if you are in the IUP. Unless you plan to travel to Asia within the year. That phone will be traded in within a year so higher resale value doesn't matter.

If you just want a phone and your carrier isn't available this is a good strategy. You just pay an "activation tax" and then cancel the plan. Phone is unlocked and you aren't on contract. You could switch every month if you wanted to.

I should of clarified carrier restrictions at launch.

The capabilities of the phone (world phone) are not diminished because you can't buy it outright day one.

...and yes Apple is a company, and they love making money.

Thanks. I wonder if I should reserve a phone before I go exchange it, to make sure they have one in stock.

It certainly wouldn't hurt.

Anyone know if you can get the Verizon iPhone from Apple and choose the Verizon monthly payments options. Debating on this trade in to get Free Verizon iPhone 7 deal but thinking it's gonna have to be ordered through Verizon to make it work. Any experience or thoughts?

i don't think we're on the same page. my problem is that you can not buy a fully unlocked world (without some trickery) phone on the apple upgrade program. ever. iphone 6s plus sim free is not purchasable through the upgrade program to my knowledge. iphone 7 sim free won't either if that's the case.

You can initiate the Verizon Edge program (monthly payments) via an Apple store. However, if you want to do the $650 iPhone deal, that has to be done at a Verizon store.

So I messed up my reservation today and put tmobile when I have att. I had to purchase the 7 plus full price which is not what I wanted to do. I wanted to sign up for IUP. She told me I could return it when they have stock of ATT version I want and then I can sign up for IUP with ATT. Are you saying this is not possible?

My apologies. I see you meant ONLY purchasing it through IUP. I agree that is stupid.

So do the reservations go live each night at 12:01 am? Or is it at 8 am?
I tried around midnight but nothing in my area, the surrounding areas. I even looked in two other states within driving distance. Nada lol

Think the above doesn't apply to you because its not the SAME device (same serial, IMEI, etc) I think you'll be fine.

It was 8 today, but now it appears they're updating at 12:01 in each time zone. If you go to the site now, you'll see no west coast states online because it's not midnight here yet. :)

Me too, but I have to activate with verizon

This!

This is the loophole for those who want the Verizon phone and have to activate on Verizon in order to leave the store with a Verizon phone. You have to cancel service within 14 days. Easy enough. Just pop in your TM or ATT sim right after and you are good.

Added bonus: Cancel within 3 days and you get your activation fee back too!

I ordered 2 phones this morning, a 7+ 256 black, and a 7+ 128, rose gold, from 2 different Apple Stores. When I went to the 2nd store, I decided I wanted the 256 instead of 128. I asked the Apple employee to check if they have a 2nd 256 (1st was DH's). As he was checking, I checked on my phone. By the time he said no, I already said it showed that store had a 256 Verizon. He had me place a reservation on my phone and I was able to walk out with it within minutes.
Apparently their system (the black handheld thingy) doesn't allow them to run plus sizes; so only folks who have reservation can redeem. They showed me this when I asked to buy an additional plus phone...
