Stuck in limbo?

I've been lurking in this thread for the past couple of weeks and thought I'd share my experience.

I have a Verizon family share plan with 2 lines and was able to place an order for an additional unlimited line through apple.com per the instructions in this thread. Phone was shipped to my home on Friday. Tried the SIM swap method. Was able to get through the activation process for the phone itself and use the new phone with my old sim card. However, the new sim card continues to prompt me to call Verizon regardless of what device it is in.

The additional line does not show up in my Verizon account. However, when I click on the Add a Device button on verizonwireless.com (just testing things out to see what happens), I am taken to a message stating that I currently have a pending order on the account. This order does not show up anywhere else on Verizon's website. Also, I still have the option to add a line with unlimited data through apple.com.

From what I've been reading, it looks like in-store pickup and scanning is the key and that isn't really an option for me. Does anyone know what happens if I never activate the new line? Will it hang out there in the background of my account in perpetuity? I was planning to sell the phone, but am hesitant to do so now with the possibility of getting hit with an ETF for not returning the phone to Apple. Any insight would be much appreciated.

(On a somewhat related note, I was able to get the "BestBuy method" upgrade sim swap to work for one of my existing lines with another phone I ordered from apple.com)

I would return the phone and try again using pick up at store.

I'm currently awaiting the home delivery (est Octo 14-21) of my added line with UDP iPhone6+ and realized I'll need a different sim from my 4s to do the imeyers sim swap method (which appears to be the safer bet at this point). Would you all suggest I request a 4G sim from Verizon (for a phone I purchased on my own) or should I go about cutting the 4s sim down to nano size manually? Or will that not work since it's 3G? Thoughts/suggestions appreciated!

Damn this is making me very nervous. I guess I'll cancel my ship to home order and try reordering and pick up same day

Maybe the issue is ship-to-home doesn't work...

ship to home

hey so only seeing people have success with in store pick up option but has anyone had success with the ship to home option? if so what did you do?

So will powering on with sim already inside the phone work to get unlimited data without swapping sims at in store pickup?

It's an unlimited data DREAM I'm going to have 5 new UDP lines by next week!

I hope most here are just adding a line or two, not like this guy here. Vzw might do something drastic if they see a huge spike of newly added unlimited subscriber. Even if they don't do anything about it, by the time this loophole is close, this new flood of unlimited users could spawn network abuser causing 4g congestion.

So I finally was able to find local availability on a 6. Cancelled my ship-to-home phone but the site kept saying I had a pending order and couldn't order another. Took about 5 minutes of constant trying for it to finally allow me to attempt order. That was a stressful few minutes, knowing that these go quickly. But was able to get a 6 to pickup tomorrow. Let's hope this works for me.

Thanks for this, I just cancelled my preorder as well and took like 5 mins for system to update and reorder with same as before for instore pickup tonight. Now I just gotta make sure I remember not to let them activate it instore and just rush out the store with the phone once paperwork done, hahha

We don't know yet, as not a lot of ppl have received their ship to home orders. So far, I think we have only one successful activation for ship to home orders. So it has worked at least once. We just got to wait it out and see what happens as more ppl start receiving their orders. Then we will know what works and what doesn't.

I don't think Verizon will notice that their UDP users went from 22% to 52% within a week.

I'm about to make BANK

TWO IN ONE DAY

I would return the phone and try again using pick up at store.

That's what I'm leaning toward. Unfortunately, the nearest Apple store is 3 hours away from me. Either way, I guess I'll be returning the phone in a few days if nothing changes in my account.

When cancel online order from Apple.com can I start new order add a line and pick up instore (it instock) right away? Or I have to wait for Apple's system to update before I can place order for instore pickup as Apple doesn't let you order more than 1 iphone if that one is in pending status. And if someone can verify that Iphone Unlimited is still selectable as of today? Anyone knows? Thanks

Yes, I had a 6+ on order in status "processing" with the add a UDP line option. Just cancelled the order and was within 5 minutes able to start a new order. Added a 6 with UDP line and chose in-store pickup this time, worked great.

Did you actually pick up the phone yet? If so, did you just activate with the SIM that came with the new phone?

Have not picked up the phone yet. Planning to swap the SIM with the one in my UDP iphone 5 just because I'll be the one using the new phone. Will activate the new SIM in my old phone. If I wanted to use the new line I'd have no issues activating the 6 with the new SIM it comes with, though.

I'm about the head into a store to pickup my order. For those that picked up, did you have to do any convincing for them to not open up the box?

I'm not anticipating any pushback when I tell them I'll handle the activation on my side. I'm the one spending the money, after all :)
