So Im reading this thread and kind of excited that I may actually be able to get an iPhone 6 since the thing that was holding me back was having to pay full price to keep my unlimited data. But I am kind of scared as I really don't want to lose it. I do have a few questions for you all who did successfully upgrade and kept your unlimited.

Is there a way to upgrade an existing line with UDP and keep the UDP? I read the SD thread about buying from Best Buy online but am not sure how it will work. Has anyone here upgraded an existing line to the iPhone 6 while retaining there UDP?

My sister has an iPhone 4s with Verizon and she has the unlimited data plan. Her contract expired in April. If she adds a line with unlimited via the system detailed in this thread, can she simply cancel her existing line without any charges being due, since she's out of contract?

Also, why is the in-store pickup so vital? If the system allows for a sale with unlimited, why wouldn't the phone activate when it arrives by mail, and/or why wouldn't Verizon honor that sale? Thanks.

She will have to pay the service charges for the month or what have you plus applicable fees and taxes

You can do either. It's just that a lot more people have had success via store pick up than ship to home. At least on this forum. Maybe different on slick deals.

Add a new line then do not pick a data option at first it will take you to the next window where you keep going right till you see unlimited Iphone data
That definitely didn't work for my friend as she scrolled all the way to the right until she couldn't scroll any more (blue dot with arrow head in it turned white and clicking on it did nothing). Then she hit continue but it said she had to pick a plan - only More Everything plans were offered to her.

It doesn't work for everybody, it may just not be working for them. Just make sure you're using safari and other than that, it just won't work for that plan.

Actually she could suspend the line to avoid those charges;):D;) This is a money saving game changing post !

And you are sure that you didn't select a data plan at all at step#1 ?
I wasn't doing it, my friend was but this screen shot shows the error that she didn't pick a data plan.

Here I wrote the method up in easy to follow step-by-step instructions:

The iMyers Method is for those who already have at least one UDP line on their account. It doesn't work for everyone who has a UDP line, notably those with very old plans or special discounts.

1) Add a new UDP line via Apple.com and select ship-to-home*;
2) When you receive the new phone, do not turn it on or plug it in;
3) Remove the SIM card that ships with the new phone;
4) Remove your current UDP line phone's SIM card;
5) Place your current UDP line's SIM card in the new phone and the new phone's SIM card in your current UDP line's phone; and
6) Turn the phones on.

* if you select pick-up in-store, you will need to convince them to let you take the phone home unactivated. YMMV if they will let you do this or not.

3 other people besides iMyers have confirmed this works - DroidBricker, Silow and YouNameIt.

I thought you were suppose to destroy the sim that came in the iPhone 6?? I thought I read that somewhere.

You are confusing what to do when you activate a new subsidized phone purchased using a UDP line's UPGRADE with activating a NEW UDP line.

but were there not 2 people on slickdeals that reported that there phones would not activate that they got from apple ?

And maybe one or two on here. I'm wondering if before they powered it on whether the line showed up on their account and no pending activation message showing on there etc etc

I know that Desert and a couple of other people ordered from apple and should get phones shipped by the end of the week so hopefully we hear back from them to know how the activation went and if there were any problems

Thanks for the reply. When making a test run through the first steps of the purchase process at Apple, I noticed it asks if you want a new number or to transfer an existing number. Is there any reason my sister can't choose the "transfer my existing line" option and then have her current number be transferred to the new iPhone?

I assume the "transfer my existing number" is meant for non-VZW phone lines to be added to the account, but I tried adding her existing VZW phone number and account number to the form and it proceeded without any errors. I don't know how one would add a new line without getting a new number, but I figured someone here would know the deal. Thanks again.

It's looking like they may not be the account owner, but rather account managers. So when they give their SSN and DL, the scan activation doesn't work. Needs to be the account owner.

Do not pick that option or you will have problems since unlimited is tied to that number . You could always could port the number out of Verizon, and once that's is complete, port them back into Verizon if you would like to keep your number

I actually cancelled my order since I found local inventory.

The first one, I did a SIM swap with an existing line and everything worked okay.

My second pickup had a scare. Brought the phone home, took the SIM out of the new and old phone, intended to swap the SIMs but realized I put them back in the same phones! :) Didn't realize it until the new phone activated (with new SIM) but everything seems okay still with the UDP.

So I can vouch that both methods worked for in-store-pickups.

I don't understand. She currently has unlimited on that number and the purchase process is offering the unlimited data plan, so why would keeping the unlimited data on the *same* number cause problems?
