selling a line and phone

Can someone walk me through how you would sell a new UDP and an iPhone?

I understand Verizon's AOL process. What I'm wondering is, say you get a subsidized iPhone 6, in-store pickup, Apple employee scans box in store, but you don't turn it on.

Your line is active, and is now ready to be AOL'd via eBay or whatever, but the phone is not bonded with that line yet, because it has not been powered on. True?

So say you don't turn the iPhone on until after you sell the UDP via eBay. Once you do, what happens if you now turn on that iPhone? Or rather, sell the sealed box, and someone else turns on the phone? Won't it still try and bond (not sure what the term is) to that UDP line that you sold to someone else? Seems like that would be an issue. Do buyers have to insert a new SIM card into the iPhone 6 that you have sold to them?

Or are people selling these UDP lines/contracts and iPhone 6 as a bundle together?

Thanks in advance.

Every time I get an error message that tells me to try again later. I entered the phone number with an UDP, through the Apple.com site, with Safari.

What am I doing wrong? Did they close it?

that message will pop up when the store sells the phone that you were checking out for. try again.

I successfully performed an in-store pickup today after having previously had an activation failure with a ship-to-home order. Nothing on the account changed between the attempts. They scanned my email, scanned the box to activate, and sent me on my way after I declined assistance in setting up the phone. The new line immediately showed up in My Verizon with unlimited data. I swapped sim cards with a preexisting udp line, activated, the swapped back. Everything shows up correctly in my account and the new line works.

I also had my ship to home order fail to activate. How were you able to add another line? Every time I try to add another line I get a message saying that I already have an iPhone order.

Nationwide family plan. 2 udp lines and 2 non-smartphones.

Let me know if you find the answer to this. I also want to know if I must open the iPhone before doing AOL on the line.

I called Apple to initiate a return of the phone on the line that wouldn't activate and shipped it back several days ago using a FedEx label they provided. I was able to place an order for in-store pickup the day after FedEx picked it up, but I hadn't attempted an additional order prior to that.

Thanks. I shipped mine back yesterday so hopefully by tomorrow I can try the pick up in store method.

Can anyone confirm if the Best Buy method mentioned at SlickDeals is still working? When I try to buy an iPhone 6 at BestBuy.com as an upgrade to an existing line, which is the "Best Buy method" described at SD, there's a warning box on the very first page that advises people that VZW has eliminated unlimited data and that people who upgrade will be put on a 2 GB plan automatically. Is that a new warning that ends the so-called Best Buy method, or is that a bogus warning that doesn't actually come true at the end of the process? Thanks very much.

EDIT: I just noticed that, during the checkout, it says "Verizon Wireless - Keep Existing Plan." Does anyone know if this still happens, or does the earlier warning prove true? (From a contractual standpoint, does the fact that it says "Keep Existing Plan" make it binding on VZW?) Thanks.

Anyone?

Here's my experience (so far):
I have a Family share plan with 4 lines:
- iPhone 5 UDP under contract
- iPhone 5s TDP under contract
- iPhone 5 TDP. Ordered iPhone 6 on VZW, but hasn't shipped yet.
- New line ordered on VZW for iPhone 6. Hasn't shipped yet. I intend to keep this line.
Billing address in NJ.

I ordered an iPhone 6 (5th line) on apple.com with unlimited data. Since I don't have a state issued ID, the only choice was to pickup from the Soho store. I went to the apple store for pickup. The rep made a fuss about not having a state issued ID (I did have an international passport), but still gave me the phone. When he tried to activate, it took about 4-5 minutes, but eventually came through. I left with the sealed box and I still have the unlimited data on my account, with no device associated.

I intend to sell the line, but keep the phone. Can I do an AOL on the line without opening the box? Eventually, I want to put the iPhone 6 on the line with the 5S. I am assuming once the line is transferred, it will have a device, and this phone will become available to put on another line. Please advise if I should activate the phone on my line first instead or is my plan okay?

The SIM in the phone will be worthless once the UDP line you sell is activated under a new SIM and only once a new SIM is activated otherwise the SIM in the phone will still be linked to the account. Stangely enough the old SIM will still have the UDP number assigned to it just you can't make calls or use data or anything.

Thanks for replying. I have two additional questions:

1) Can you AOL a brand-new Verizon unlimited data plan without having any device activated on it? Seems strange that Verizon would allow that..?

2) So all of these people buying sealed Verizon iPhones on eBay, they will have to insert a new (free from Verizon) SIM card for the phone to work, right? I looked at many different auctions on eBay, and none of them even mentioned this. The seller should be saying that the buyer must insert a new SIM when they received the phone, correct? Otherwise, I suppose you could open the box and remove the SIM before selling, just to ensure no issues when the buyer receives it.

1. Yes, I did one last week.

2. I don't know where all the phones come from but assuming they were purchased using add a line or upgrade then the SIM is not reusable. I actually dealt with it when I AOLed a line. The person I gave it to wanted a nano SIM but I had already changed line to micro for an android phone . VZW rep couldn't get it to switch back and said a new SIM would be required. Lastly I have removed the SIM from all the phones I sold, had no issues selling but I sold local not eBay.

I have the option to add a line on apple. Not sure if I should do it, I wish I knew someone that wanted the line as I would like to get a new iPhone 6 plus.

I did an in store pickup today. Scan went through, saw my new unlimited data line immediately on my verizon account. I did not open the box yet. I want to aol the line and keep the phone. Should I open and activate phone- do a device switch online with my current iPhone? During the aol process they add the other persons device anyways, right? What happens to my old iPhone?
