Though, FWIW, I wasn't able to do it for several days (tried a bunch of different browsers, all times of day, etc), and then one day it just clicked and I could order new lines. Not sure what changed.
So what were you seeing at first and then what changed?

I get an error message saying it can't be done. Verizon says that is b/c of the type of plan I have.

What is this talk, text and data discount you speak of? I have a employee discount with vzw but this sounds better. Lol
It's the best but no longer available. If anyone knows how to get it, please post how, but I think that ship has sailed.

----------

Still can't place orders. Doesn't matter whose Verizon account I use- whose name i put the order under, what billing or email addresses I use, the orders get cancelled. Not an email cancellation they just get silently cancelled

I have done a considerable amount of phones.
So is it your credit card that they are flagging? Have you tried a different credit card?

AOL my new UDP Yesterday. I had a failed activation when I had 5 lines on my nationwide account. Hopefully when I pick up today, I won't have any hiccups now that I'm back to 4 lines.

Did you have a pending activation on that UDP? Just curious if I do this, and don't open the sealed iPhone and power it on, if that will pose an issue when trying to do the AOL.

(I can't seem to get a clear answer if there is any difference between the Apple in-store scan vs. powering the phone on for the first time. I don't think there is a difference, but not sure)

No pending activation nothing at the time. Nor this time. I just triple checked my order selected UDP and pay as you go text plan. Will see later.

Virtually = almost. so it's possible to brick it even remotely.
The other way to brick an android with an unlocked bootloader is to erase the partition table I believe.

You can't brick an Apple Genius machine.
Yes, you can brick a jailbroken iPhone. I just looked it up and you would brick them in equivalent ways to how you can brick an android with an unlocked bootloader - erasing the boot-up code.

At the end of the day every processor works the same way in that on power up it tries to find its boot-up code. On android this is called the bootloader. On iOS the code is stored in a NOR flash memory. If you delete these pieces of code or overwrite them with non-boot-up code, your processor never boots and you brick UNLESS you can re-flash them with the proper code. You can't do that but the manufacturers can.

However at the end of the day, you can brick an iPhone the same ways you can brick an android. It is just easier to do on an unlocked android b/c we have all of the tools readily available to us to flash/erase our bootloaders and partition tables.

Has anyone have any success when you had the phones shipped to your house and getting it activated with UDP? I have been sleepless for 2 weeks and are getting real tired waiting for the 64 gb in gold. Please help.

LOL. This whole thing ain't worth losing sleep over. At least you don't have Ebola.

That being said...

People have reported both successes and failures with the ship to home method. I wish you luck.

Yes, the key thing regarding whether or not it works is whether or not Apple did a good job of estimating your shipping date.

If you do in-store pick-up, the scan activation will create the line. If you do ship-to-home, the lines are time activated in that they appear on your account during the time frame that apple estimated your phone would ship. If your phone ships faster than Apple estimated, you won't be able to activate it.

People have had various experiences wrt getting help with the ship-to-home lines when they have shipped early. It is a YMMV kind of thing. You could just wait for the estimated shipping date to arrive, but you may be out of the return period then and if you have a problem with the phone, won't be able to return for a refund.

Best option is to do pick-up in-store until Apple is not experiencing an inventory problem.

Thanks. So if shipping estimate is 5-10 days, I should activate in 12 days and that should be fine?

No one has done that so far, but that appears to be the general consensus. What has happened to people is they were not able to activate the devices that shipped early so they returned the phone. Then when the estimated shipping date arrived, the line appeared on their account even though they had returned the phone!!

Then they had to deal with getting Verizon to take the line off of their account by proving through Apple they had returned the phone. And if you return in-store, they have to verify it from the store where you returned the phone.

All of this is in the thread if you read it. Again, p/u in-store is your safest option.

Just started my portback from Google Voice a few moments ago

Your port request has been submitted, but no response has been received. We expect your port request will be completed within 10 business days.

Using the www.verizonwireless.com/port

Hopefully this doesn't take forever....

I had to go through a rep and follow an automated system as well. I wonder why porting from Virgin Mobile was literally done a few minutes (no need for automated system, the rep was able to just port it over ASAP, and even said "it's done") , while Google Voice takes forever.

If I ever need to do this again in the future, I'll just pay for a TMobile Prepaid Plan or something, it seems that between actual phone companies it moves so much faster.

Yeah. Tried all sorts of different things. Different addresses of friends that have VZW unlimited, using their credit cards, using apple gift cards, and I just can't get it to go anymore.

Ship to home worked fine for me

Could it be your IP address?

Could it be your IP address?

I rotated IP addresses... I don't know - I just don't get it. I don't want to post online how much I made in this public forum, though  All I know is I helped a lot of people get unlimited data, and a lot of people get their hands on an iPhone - I actually sold the iPhones at cost, without tax - Everybody won. (even Verizon!)

Ah so it's finally over?

I just opened up a new Apple Store tab, and realized that there's a new step before picking a data plan. It asks if I wanna join the Nationwide Share Plan, etc. I click continue, and Unlimited data is STILL an option.

But I guess they're just being canceled out?

If you were using the same Verizon family plan to add a line to, then it is the account. My guess is you are blocked from adding a line by Verizon. You could test it by trying to add a line via Amazon or elsewhere but you would have to place the order and see if went through and then got canceled. Not worth having to return if it didn't cancel.

So it was MORE than $12k, lol!

Yeah, I agree. The only people who would disagree are those who have UDP and don't want anyone else to get it because they want to be able to use 100GB per month of data and fear if more people can do that then they will slow down. But the reality is that the more on contract UDP lines that are out there, the less likely Verizon is to eff with us.

Only for one poster has that happened.

Really? I checked today and the process was the same for me as it was 2 weeks ago.

Where did you read that the plans are being cancelled?

----------

Yes store pick-up. A lot of money- paid off all my debt and then some.

Were you selling the iPhones sealed? And if so, how did you manage the SIM card swap? Just telling people they need to put in a new SIM when they unwrap the phone?

Thanks!
