Thanks.

Just so I'm clear:

So the in-store scanning "creates the line".
I believe what it does is executes the order to add a line. I don't know if it is enough to fully complete the process by itself as I believe that you need to turn on the phone with the SIM it shipped with to complete the process. Call Verizon's AOL department if you want to know more as that is all I know.

And turning the phone on "activates that SIM to that line"?
No, the SIM card is already associated with your account even if you don't turn on the phone. That's why you have to remove it b/f you sell it. But perhaps you could put another 4G LTE phone on the new line and that would bump the SIM in the phone off of your account. Idk.

Turning on the phone activates the phone on Apple's servers, which I believe starts the clock on the warranty but don't quote me on that.

I do not know, but Verizon's AOL department could tell you. So do in-store p/u for the phone, then come home and ask Verizon's AOL department if you can.

I doubt it as every line must have a phone on it. The phone won't be on the line until you turn it on.

However, perhaps you could put another 4G LTE phone on the line and then call Verizon's AOL department, but I was under the impression that new lines had to be activate with the phone you purchased on the line if you did purchase a phone on the line. I could be wrong, idk.

yes, the scan activation actually creates the line if you chose in-store p/u. If you did ship to home, those lines appear time activated based on estimated shipping date, but that isn't always consistent.

I never activated the phone on the line. I just did an aol straight off the bat after a week of having it

Right but with our plan that has free mobile to any mobile minutes, if you try to do that online, you lose the free mobile to any mobile minutes. And when you do, then you can order more UDP lines.

However, if we can switch back at will, then we can manufacture UDP lines WITH free mobile to any mobile lines. GOLDMINE!!!!!!

free mobile to mobile starts at 1400 minutes in our account and you can add 10 number as friend & family. I don't talk over the phone too much so 700 is enough.

I even split 4 lines into 2 accounts ( wife and me ) so I can add more UDPs. :D I gave 2 UDP lines to my friend and now he has been manufactured the UDP Lines.

Well, I technically help Big Red to get more contracted customers, :apple: sells more Iphones and few people to get UDP lines.

So if I switch to 1400 min I can add m to m??

I think we may be talking about 2 different things. I am talking about free mobile to ANY mobile, meaning that I can call any mobile phone in the US on any carrier and it doesn't use any of my 700 minutes. With hangouts and free mobile to any mobile, b/t the 2 of us we never use more than 100 minutes a month!

What exactly is the free mobile to any mobile? Was this part of the Nationwide? Or a separate promotional item you had put on your account?

October 16. Sorry I did not read this entire thread. Does it mean I have to wait till that date to activate??

You may not have to wait that long... My ship to home was scheduled for the 14th and worked on the 8th. Just wait it out is all I can say.

As far as I know you need the Any Mobile Talk and Text plan for that.

The cheapest Any Mobile Talk and Text family plan is $85/mo for 700 minutes, unlimited text and each line is another $10/mo plus their data plan if any. So for 2 UDP lines it is $165/mo.

I believe the plan code is 0711 and you cannot go below unlimited texts.

No. You can go to store (Genius bar appointment) and tell them that you received the phone sooner than anticipated date and phone is not able to talk to apple servers and verizon towers. Apple store employee should be able to send an activation request to Verizon which would take about 24 hours and then start the phone and it should activate.

No good no good

It works for us because the rest of the family is on ATT so we can call them without it eating up our minutes. And my mom simply cannot figure out how to use hangouts or google voice. We would need to go to 1400 minutes/mo for another $20/mo if we didn't have any mobile talk and text. We could go with less than unlimited texting though.

Did you do in-store p/u?

What did you do about the SIM card in the phone?

Yes. Did instore.

When I met with the buyer, i had him open the box and I just turned it on with one of my sims just so it shows linked once on my account and then he threw his sim in and was on his way

You were able to AOL the new UDP without ever turning on the phone?

I did that on my first line. I AOL-ed it and THEN opened the phone. The second time around, when the buyer tried to activate his new iPhone 5S bought at full retail, it wouldn't activate. So I ended up opening my iPhone 6, put that sim into buyer's iPhone 5S (which activated on my account basically), and then AOL-ed both the line and the phone.
It can definitely be done, and in my second attempt, I think it was more to do with the buyer's iPhone than my line. But, who knows.

In my experience, it's always better to just activate the new phone. Saves hassle for you and buyer.

Thanks -just to be clear, if you do p/u in-store you don't have to input your SSN and billing zip code when you activate the new iPhone but when you do ship to home you do?

Agreed.
pick up phone at apple store. <they create a line, assign phone number>
sell phone.
turn it on, ring a test call.
reset everything
take out sim
send the phone

There is no cure for this error. Whatever promo is on your account, you cannot add a line through apple.

----------

Do you have free mobile to any mobile minutes? If so, it won't work. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ADD A LINE THROUGH APPLE OR ANYWHERE ELSE EXCEPT VERIZON.

Thanks. That might explain it.

I think I do have some discount on my plan through my employer.

Darn.

I don't have free mobile-to-any mobile. Only free Verizon-to-Verizon.

I don't believe employer discounts makes a difference. Promos is referring to verizon specific offerings

Or, ya'll could come over to the dark side - that would be iOS - and you could take advantage of Facetime audio calls, which sound so much better than anything GV can muster up - this coming from a former Android and still-current GV user. And, it's built into the OS - OS X and iOS, so, no learning curve to deal with! Heck, my 76-year-old mom figured it out in 10 minutes.
