Will continue to monitor over this and next billing cycle but fingers crossed!
Historically Verizon has not taken something like this away from customers - i.e., something a customer got that was the result of Verizon's mistake.

This is a Verizon mistake, not an Apple mistake. All Apple's system is doing is requesting the codes from Verizon's system that are associated with your account when you go to add a line. Verizon's system is returning the UDP feature code when it shouldn't be. But that is due to a mistake on Verizon's end.

My 2 friends who have UDP lines on their family plans both received only More Everything plans to pick from when they tried to add a line to their plans. I wasn't able to even get that far as I only received an error stating my request could not be processed. So it doesn't work for everyone with UDP and it didn't work for me :(

Thanks for the follow up. I have 3 UDP lines in "family" plan in an account, and can take on a 4th with no issue. I took note of the add-a-UDP line in both threads a few hours before pulling the trigger, but won't get all bent if I can't add a line with UDP.

As for walking out of the store as has been described, I would take the "NYer tack" as I'm from that State - visit the store when it's suitably busy, be assertive but not a jerk, and be very clear about what you want. That I'm 6"7" and 250# helps me get my point across as a customer, but I tend to be very respectful unless I don't get what I want as a customer - and be prepared to walk out. I can always point out that other customers have been allowed to leave with an unactivated iPhone 6 and expect the same treatment afforded those customers.

I'm avoiding the weekend crowd but will look to arrive in an Apple Store around the lunchtime rush... Cheers!

Well on the second order my 5' 90lb wife picked it up, soooo I not sure if intimidation is necessary. Haha!

I think they are very busy right now and more willing to let people walk out with unactivated phones. I wouldn't be surprised if Verizon starts clueing into this and sends an alert to Apple about it.

I know with the UDP upgrades, only Best Buy used to randomly select orders for manual processing. Now Amazon has started doing it too, very soon after people figured out the BB Method works with any 3rd party retailer, including Apple.

I wasn't able to add one and neither were 2 of my friends who would have added lines and let me AOL them. I AM bent out of shape about it, lol!

That and the fact that Best Buy still has the 16GB iPhone 5s for $200 has put me in a foul mood! I need to get my upgrade done with so I can move on with my life.
So, some feedback, all while watching the Alabama/Florida game from my DVR. I do have an older plan - a Nationwide 1400 plan, with F&F and some other options no longer available on newer plans. My Nationwide Plan is at least 4 years old.

I used FF and Chrome before using Safari (7.1). I did NOT see the ability to upgrade to a new UL line in FF or Chrome. BUT, I then switched to Safari and saw a "widget", a blue arrow to select for other plans - and clicked it, and a new line with UL data and other GFed options are available, including a TM option for $5/250TMs. I then just closed the browser window before going any farther.

The "widget" was in an unusual position for Apple's website, and some of the text was truncated. I will give this a go early tomorrow now that I know that it's an option for me, but I did want to report back here. Others have offered that using a different browser might make a difference - I use FF, Chrome, Opera, and Fluid besides Safari - Safari was the only browser that gave me an option to select different options. And, I do have two minor promotions on my plan - a (small) discount and extra minutes.

I'm a large man, but I learned 30 years ago when dating a 5' tall Texan (before my growth spurt of 9" in 3 months) to NEVER tangle with a shorter woman with an attitude. On that note, when I weighed 180# at my height I got picked on all the time - after I hit the weight room, not so much...

Were you presented with the More Everything plans, though? My friends said they were given the ME data plan options when they tried to add a line to their existing Nationwide plans. It specifically said More Everything.

Ouch, I bet you had some terrible growing pains back then!

I wonder how it would work through the Apple Store app?

I was presented with ME plans, and with individual plans. I'll counter by offering that my account has a family plan - all of my lines (lines) sharing a family plan. Maybe it's the structure of the account that's causing some issues? The "older" plans can be grouped into individual and/or family plans - my Nationwide account can handle up to 10 lines, configured as individual or (grouped) family plans. I attempted to add a line to my "family" plan with success.

I also manage 50+ lines in my small company, most with UL data from GFed plans. When I tried to add a line to one of those accounts, I could see the "add a UL data" option on some of them but not all of them - maybe that's the trigger? What I am seeing is that I can add a UL data line to any of my accounts that have plans that are "expandable" - as in family plans. The older Nationwide plans can handle up to 10 lines - it seems as though my accounts with individual plans can't have a line added? (but this is supposition on my part).

So I have 7 "family" plans in my several accounts - each of them shows on Apple's website that I can add a UL data line. None of the accounts that have individual plans can have an UL data line added. I'm not going to surmise on this - my accountant will have my head if I add too much to my bottom line without an client to bill to!!!!

FWIW, My Verizon allows me to configure my account with 10 lines as I see fit - any combination of grouped lines (family plan) and individual lines (individual plan). I can have 2 4-line family plans and 2 individual plans in one account. With the "limit" of 5 lines that resellers seem to have, I've been able to add lines to a "family" plan within an account but not to an account - if that makes sense? My accounts with the maxed 10 lines can't have a line added to them, and I can't add a line to a single-line plan within an account. I have two accounts with "free" lines - my own personal account and one of my company (non-corporate-liable) accounts, and Apple has allowed me to "add" a line to those accounts. My accountant will gripe, but then I'll remind him who pays his invoices - and that will be the end of it...

So, I'll pull the trigger tomorrow on something (or sooner if the Ducks and Sooners blow out their opponents), and I'll report back here what happens.

My mom freaked out at the time, big time. For more reasons than I can mention here, I had surgery just to walk before most of those here were even born. My family's had some health issues, to be sure. Not to dump here, but my mom and I have been exploring some of my health issues relative to my height. Long story. I'm literally exploring the issues with my physician. Here's a pic with my mom, a long, long time ago... (http://31.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7o6efjfQk1qjih96o1_500.jpg). Yeah, that's the man. And, that's my mom....

IIRC at least one poster on slick deals had an individual Nationwide plan and could add a UDP line to his individual line.

Wow what a great pic!!!

I'm about to read the past few pages, but does anyone know which is the method that has actually been successful? I have Nationwide Talk and Text Share 700. One phone has Unlimited, the other has 2GB

My mom wants to join in on the iPhone craze (and get a 5C), she honestly doesn't need something that modern/good.

I'm thinking of see I can add an unlimited line, give it to my brother, and have her take the old 2GB line.

Cool, so this let's me ....Have TWO unlimited plans I guess? Then once I'm done. I put back my Phone #1's sim card back in #1, and return the new phone's sim in the new phone.

Thus making both unlimited + no issue of activating error that you, crnotes2019, had. I recall earlier you couldn't activate in store

I can only go by what others have done. I can't say for certain you won't have issues. I had issues doing store pick up. But others have had success that way and also ship to home and possibly even swapping sims of new line and old line sim. Ive ordered two more lines in hope of having success though

Here I wrote the method up in easy to follow step-by-step instructions:

The iMyers Method is for those who already have at least one UDP line on their account. It doesn't work for everyone who has a UDP line, notably those with very old plans or special discounts.

1) Add a new UDP line via Apple.com and select ship-to-home*;
2) When you receive the new phone, do not turn it on or plug it in;
3) Remove the SIM card that ships with the new phone;
4) Remove your current UDP line phone's SIM card;
5) Place your current UDP line's SIM card in the new phone and the new phone's SIM card in your current UDP line's phone; and
6) Turn the phones on.

* if you select pick-up in-store, you will need to convince them to let you take the phone home unactivated. YMMV if they will let you do this or not.

3 other people besides iMyers have confirmed this works - DroidBricker, Silow and YouNameIt.

So the steps are the same for store pick up as well ?(getting them to let me activate at home and then swapping sims?) And it's verified that if they activate it in store you won't work at all? Thanks!

does this work if you don't have a family plan?

No, you need to have a family plan

That's not entirely true. It has worked for some who've had single lines you just have to see if it shows that option of iphone UDP once you try to add a line. I have that option on my second account.

IIRC someone with an individual plan was able to add a line, but maybe I am wrong? Try it and see.

I think at least 5 people now have claimed it worked for them but I am not sure how many did in-store pick-up. Yes, the steps are the same.

I think everyone is going by your experience that it won't work in-store. The only other guy who it didn't work in-store was trying to add a 6th line to his family plan. He ended up with a subaccount and a 4GB More Everything line.

You're clear - it was a "right-pointing-double-arrow" that did was showing up in Safari and no other browser. I'm browser-agnostic, but am aware of the games that website admins play. I forgot to mention that I also use OmniWeb - it and Safari can have their user agents changed quite easily. I change the user agent of Safari to "Mobile Safari" to play videos on ESPN and CNN all the time - I'm used to content showing up in one browser but not another, and have found that one site works in one browser but another. I'm using FF now here, but have found that Apple's web site works best in Safari. I'd read about the hiccups or issues of ordering the iPhone 6 - so I thought I'd try a few different browsers. Over on Slickdeals - the thread started with Android users trying to get the latest Galaxy/Motoblur/Sense phone weeks ago - only recently has attention turned to the iPhone. So, IMHO, most of those posters in the Slickdeal thread would be using Safari the least - IMO. I've seen ActiveX widgets show up in IE but not in any other browser. We want iPhones, so I thought Safari would be the go-to browser - others complained, so I thought I'd test the theory. Safari worked where other browsers didn't. QED.

Regarding the structure of my plan, I was only offering insight what I'm seeing in my accounts. I found it odd that some of my Nationwide accounts could have another UL data line added while others couldn't. Frustrating, that. But, I'm keeping in mind that we're trying to game a system created by a company that's trying to gouge us. I'll be emailing Tom Wheeler on Monday or Tuesday to give him a piece of my mind. I've worked for 3 Senators in this State, and have worked on hundreds of public domain projects in the PNW - Wheeler won't care, but I'll get my opinion in.

As for the photo, my GGF managed FDR's Hyde Park property. My aunt had polio and was in an iron lung for over a decade, and both my brother and I have scoliosis to some degree - an unproven theory. I'm working with my doctors to determine whether there's a link between the two diseases. My growth spurts have added fuel to that speculation (I've had more than one - yikes!). Mom was in the medical field for 4 decades, and she's in on this too! Cheers!

Does it show up in Mobile Safari? My friend has an iPad I could ask her to try her iPad.

Yeah, the Best Buy Method was first discovered by a poster over on Android Central. The Best Buy Method should have been named The Otwok Method, lol! That's where I got most of my info about what works and doesn't wrt upgrading UDP lines. There are posters over on AC's Verizon forum who are very knowledgeable about Verizon.

As an aside, Motoblur is no more ever since Google bought Motorola. Moto phones run pure vanilla android with some very useful Motorola apps added in. Pure vanilla android+. Not that anyone here cares, but . . . . .

Wheeler has to enforce 47 cfr 27.16, though. IMO, it is best to make it clear that what Verizon is proposing to do is governed by that regulation so Wheeler knows the public is not ignorant of the Block C license restrictions.

I just did it on apple.com it's allowing me to add an individual line WITH unlimited data 29.99/month!

I just don't know if I trust it though
What do you mean? You currently have an individual Nationwide plan and it is letting you add a UDP line? Or do you currently have a Nationwide family plan and you are adding another line to that?

Well, it allowed me to place the order for a new line with 450 minutes and unlimited data at 70/month at upgrade pricing, which is what my current grandfathered plan is. Unfortunately I realized a problem and will have to cancel it. My billing and thus shipping address is in wisconsin and I am living in NY. I would have to sign for the phone from ups because it's a new line, so I won't be able to have a relative pick it up. Oh well, I guess I'll cancel and change my billing address and try it again.

Currently have an individual line plan, grandfathered unlimited and it let me order another individual plan unlimited data, discounted price and new 2 year contract. I couldn't believe it. But I'll have to cancel as stated above. I'll post a screen shot of the order confirmation,
