So what's worse, the person on the internet tracking their phone obsessively, or the people taking time out of their busy day to tell the others that they are wasting their time? Live and let live

It took me less than 5 minutes to make this whole collection of posts. It'll take you the whole week to track flights because that's what you do when you're obsessed and don't have a life. I think one is objectively worse than the other, but YOLO lol!!!!11

Anyone with Verizon 64G has got tracking number/SN?

I just got mine this morning. My Apple account page still says "Preparing for shipment", but my serial number showed up in the "supportprofiles" page, and I was able to find my tracking numbers by using the UPS Track by reference page.

okay this could be a very dumb question but it is something that hasnt crossed my mind until now... how exactly does one activate a preorder phone once they have received it in the mail? (AT&T if it matters)

Have the same question! My 1st upgrade with AT&T. I assume I should:

  1. Backup my current iPhone with iTunes
  2. Power up & load that backup into iphone5
  3. Activate through iTunes?

Not sure how & what order step 2 & 3 should happen... Anyone with advise? I'm clueless lol :p

So my oder is still processing and hasn't shipped yet.

Should I be concerned and maybe make a call to apple?

I live in NYC. When I got my iPad, it shipped a week before and they just held it in New Jersey for a few days...

Sorry to ask an annoying question.

If your Apple account page still says "Delivers on 9/21", then I don't think you have anything to worry about. Apple has 2 million + orders to deal with, it just takes time to get through them all. Think of it like waiting for your luggage at the airport. Some people's luggage pops out right away, but it always seems like mine is the last to come out :)

I think there are instructions on the confirmation email. Activation depends on if you are upgrading a phone and want to retain contacts and other information, like photos. If you just want to start over, you turn the phone on and follow the on screen instructions. If you want to retain info, make sure you you backup the old phone using iTunes. Activate the new phone, connect to your computer and itunes and select import from the backup. I think you need the latest iTunes version for the iOS6 that comes with the new phone, so you may want to update iTunes now if you haven't already.

Woo hoo! iCloud for the win! all of my contacts are all backed up there so I will be fine on that front... but thanks for all the info guys! Hopefully AT&T gets their **** together so we can all activate easily!

My White AT&T iPhone 5 16GB just showed up on my support profile, I can confirm that the last four letters of the serial is DTTP. Also showed up on UPS with my billing phone #, in Illinois.

Oh yeah, there is the iCloud option now too... see this thread has some more than frivolous use.

LOUISVILLE KY, I had to search for it on UPS with my phone number thought, the apple website still says preparing for shipment

After trying to get ahold of Apple all weekend via their phone support line, I was finally able to get through and change my shipping address yesterday morning(it was previously set to my family plan's billing address). Since the order had already shipped, they put in a request for a re-route to UPS. What are the chances that my reroute will be fulfilled? Anyone have experience with re-routing a package in the past? The package is currently on it's way to Kentucky, and it's been a full 24 hours since the request was made.

This exact thing happened to me with the iphone 4s, and unfortunately, it still ended up arriving at the wrong address. Hopefully you have better luck.

Me too....I got order confirmation 3:18 eastern
So far showing 9/21 delivery via holiday shipping

Dude they have been the worst. I have gotten nothing except an e-mail stating my order was processing. I bought it at 3:20AM.

Now my Apple.com order (verizon was for work this is personal) is in KY.

Yep, still no dice. I'll keep trying. Has anyone narrowed down what carrier the Black 16GB is using? Or is that still up in the air?

This worked for me! My earlier post I couldn't get this to come up. I ordered two phones - one from the iPhone apple store app (in which the reference number was the order number) and one from the regular desktop website which ended up using not the main number from my att account but the one from my apple ID. Weird, but glad it worked out and thanks for the steer!

Interestingly, the above phone (white 16gb) shows "holiday shipping" as the method on apples site. The black 32gb one shows standard shipping on apples site. Wonder what Holiday shipping is? I know they will both get here 9/21 (knock on wood) but the difference must stem from where they are coming from.

Just called Apple and they said once you have the SIM card (comes with the phone yes?) it is all done right through iTunes

Hey everyone

So I bought my iphone 5 on friday, but Im on a family plan and the primary holder of the account (my mom) lives at a different address... I tried calling, apple and ask if the shipping address could be changed but as you can guess, that day Phone lines were busy all day and I was traveling outside the US... unfortunately I had no way to contact apple until yesterday when I returned to the States, my order status with apple says 'Preparing for shipment'. So i called apple and told them my situation and they sent a request to the carrier (UPS) to change the address... BUT since my order status says PREPARING FOR SHIPMENT, I thought it hadnt been sent yet. Well I went to the UPS website and checked if they had already sent it using my phone number to find my package and turns out they have already mailed it and this is the shipment progress so far.

United States 09/15/2012 12:25 P.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS

in the Shipment information it still says my mom's address. my concern now is that because of the request I did through apple maybe my iphone will be delayed. Do you think that could happen? or will they just redirect it to my address?

Thank you

Finally got the serial number under Support profile.
Ordered around 3:40am EST, so I guess Apple updates it by order time in maybe 10min increments?

My other phone ordered through ATT, still nothing and both don't have ups tracking yet using the op trick.

yeah I am with you on 1 & 2 but no clue on 3.. everyone seems to have a different idea.. from what I have read we will either activate through itunes or have to call AT&T

1. Backup your current iPhone through iTunes (unless you back up to iCloud).
2. Turn on the iPhone 5 and follow the instructions. This will activate the phone.
3. Connect into iTunes and perform "restore from backup". If you have been using iCloud for backup then restore from the iCloud.

It's easy.

With ATT you just turn the new phone on and follow the instructions, its done computer to computer, no calling necessary. Your old phone will be disabled and the new phone will work. You only need iTunes or iCloud if you want to retain contacts, message, photos or other things on the old phone.

The activation computers may be busy Friday, so there could be some delays. Otherwise seamlessly. Its the same steps used if you needed to replace a phone sometime recently.

Make sure your old phone is backed up to iTunes or iCloud before activating the new phone.
