I'd like to believe that it's true, but how can anyone with a screen name of "GFLovesMy9Inchr" be taken seriously?

LOL! I thought the same, but after reading the thread he seemed to know too many correct details to be making it up... but I don't know :p

Something disturbing is, UPS was reporting both my phones in KY this morning. I just checked again to see if they had moved, and now it shows both phones back in Anchorage, AK, and nothing about KY

Finally changed status.
Preparing for Shipment
But no serial number in profile also trying both
my number i get nothing from UPS.

iPhone 5 Black 64GB Verizon

Any suggestions?

Wait for the SN to show up on your support page. Then start looking for the phone.

Mine took two day to get from ship preparation to having a SN.

True. Regardless of his employer (UPS, Apple, AT&T), it is not a bright idea to post information on a public forum. Two of the companies mentioned above will terminate on the spot.

I am not saying he divulged any secrets...Just not too bright.

They ran out of room in KY, so the left the shipping pallets on the plane :)

I've tracked a lot of packages through UPS, its not unusual to see unusual tracking, most are attributed to scan errors.

Check again tomorrow. Apple has been known at launch dates to send things overnight if necessary. If they quoted you 9/21/12 I'd go with that. It could already be in a warehouse in the US. Remember that a lot of us who found tracking numbers of phones shipping from China also have late production weeks (mine is week 37, meaning it was assembled literally last week). If yours is in a warehouse in the US then it can ship as late as Thursday and still get to you by Friday.

A few journalist were talking about this on a podcast the other day. Studies have shown that this method results in the best customer satisfaction overall, free advertising, and doesn't hurt the bottom line that much.. within the practical constraints. It may also eliminate most of the "scalping" type feeding frenzy. The only thing else that may work is to have a sliding scale price, day 1 price is $1000, day 2 is $900, day 3 is $800, etc. Although that will be the best for the bottom line, no one is going to do that (except maybe Samsung), as they think it will hurt customer satisfaction.

So Apple is doing the right thing for you and other consumers....

Good point.

Question - I am going to be giving my iPhone 4s to my mother on Friday. She has an iPhone 4. Should they both be updated to iOS 6 or should I keep them both on iOS 5 to make the swap easier? Or does it matter one way or the other?

Thanks so much :)

I don't know that it makes a difference. I'd like to see where apple has said that iOS 5 backups won't work in iOS 6. The reverse is true (iOS 6 backup won't work in iOS 5) but as a developer, I had no issues at all restoring my iOS 5 backup on my phone when I initially loaded the iOS 6 beta seeds....

As far as I've seen the backups are backwards compatible.

Thanks for the advice,
I guess by that time i will have a tracking number. since 21st is around the
corner lol.

Uh-oh

I'm starting to get the sense that the overwhelming # of i5's pre-ordered is going to cause major logistic problems for people getting their phones on the 21st. Someone start a thread up title "Where the F is my iPhone!" If your i5 isn't confirmed in the Louisville be later tonight, you can probably kiss a friday delivery good-bye. Status updates for delivery will start to push out further and further from this point forward. (i hope i'm wrong).

You really have no idea what you're talking about haha.

Last year, I didn't get shipping information until the day before when it was in Asia. I STILL got it the next day, on time.

Yea I was going to say - as long as it leaves China by Thursday morning - you should have it by Friday.

Thumbs up for UPS!!

So excited that UPS is the service of choice for this round... I live 1/3 of a mile away from the station (which is very rural) and the people there are so friendly that they tend to do our deliveries early! I may drive over at midnight Thursday and try to pick it up early! Otherwise, Here's hoping my iPhone arrives at 8am Friday :D

Thanks a bunch for this advice! I think whatever I do i'll just make sure they are on the same OS.

Thanks again :p

My phone has been sitting in Nashville for 2 days now. Any info on when it may be shipped out? Its going to Texas. Just so excited! I want to see some movement. lol :p

The easiest part is getting it from China to your regional distribution center since they ship largely in bulk up to that point. The tricky part will be getting it from your local delivery center to your house. Since it's a weekday, UPS and FedEx have regular business shipments that day, so residential shipments could be pushed back to the afternoon depending on how busy they are in your delivery area.

If it gets there at 8:00pm, it gets there at 8:00pm. It's nothing to sweat about.

Probably Thursday night. Maybe tomorrow night if it's going by truck.

So I ordered 2 phones in different orders, the one I ordered first still shows as 'preparing for shipment' but I am able to see the tracking for it through UPS and serial number for it on Apple support. However, the second phone that I ordered a few minutes after for my dad's line still has not shown up in Apple support or through the UPS tracking. His phone does show up in order history as 'preparing for shipment' though. Has anyone else with two different orders experienced this?

CSS Emails

Have any AT&T customers received their CSS emails yet confirming their new contracts? I know for the 4 those came out prior to the shipping emails. I haven't received anything yet.

I'm in the same boat as you. My 5 arrived in Louisville from Nashville today. It will be in Texas on the 21st (I hope). I wanted to order mine thru AT&T since their distribution center is only 25 miles away; however, I never could get their website to come up at order time.

Nothing from AT&T either, and I changed my plan. My account profile on myAT&T does reflect a new contract start and end date. That's it.
