So I ordered 2 phones in different orders, the one I ordered first still shows as 'preparing for shipment' but I am able to see the tracking for it through UPS and serial number for it on Apple support. However, the second phone that I ordered a few minutes after for my dad's line still has not shown up in Apple support or through the UPS tracking. His phone does show up in order history as 'preparing for shipment' though. Has anyone else with two different orders experienced this?

With the exception of credit card holds, my two phones, ordered 7 minutes apart were always at least 24 hours apart with status changes. The last order was always the first one with the change.

For those patiently waiting...

I ordered a 16GB, black slate, at 3:01 EST (the first minute) and my status is still showing "preparing for shipment", nothing on the UPS site yet.

Still showing 9/21 delivery on apples site however.

Have any AT&T customers received their CSS emails yet confirming their new contracts? I know for the 4 those came out prior to the shipping emails. I haven't received anything yet.

Here is what I have:

9/14/12 12:15 am PST -Ordered iPhone 5 16g black/slate
9/17/12 - Status changed to "Preparing for Shipment" (and Holiday Shipping)
9/17/12 - iPhone 5 showed up on support profile
9/18/12 - Found tracking info on UPS using my phone number

Tracking info:
Louisville, KY, United States 09/18/2012 10:00 A.M. Arrival Scan
Nashville, TN, United States 09/17/2012 4:46 P.M. Origin Scan
United States 09/17/2012 1:03 A.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS

Some have mentioned that these went into their junk mail for some reason. You should be able to see the CSS on line at att.com.

So I've recently been checking to see if it's been shipped through Apple. All I can see is "Preparing for Shipment," and it's been like that since this weekend. I called Apple, and that's all they could see as well.
I did what the first orginial post said by tracking it through UPS with the phone number that I bought it for...nothing. Then, I looked it up by the phone number that is also used through iTunes (which it also says to do), and it has departed from Alaska! (YAY!)
My thing is why does it still say "Preparing for Shipment" on the Apple website? & I never got an e-mail either... Has this happened to anyone else?!

sign of a potential problem?

My iPhone, ordered from the Apple Store just after midnight PST on 9/14, with a delivery date of 9/21 has still not shipped. Shipping status remains "preparing for shipment" as of 5:30pm EST on 9/18. Live in Florida, USA. Should I be concerned?

Same boat as you here...

No. Nobody's has changed to "shipped". Yet.

GOD, this week is SO dragging. Why can't tomorrow be Friday? My phone finally got to Louisville this morning, though, so I am happy. I'll be even happier when it shows as shipped.

I'm in the same boat, ordered mine about 12:10AM PDT, says delivers on 09/21 yet still "Preparing for Shipment", I'm in NYC.

EDIT: It seems that using the Tracking By Reference shown here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1443280/ (input your phone number with no dashes, just 10-digit number), I was able to track my phone, it departed Anchorage, AK at 12:58am this morning at last check. :)

If anybody can find this form on UPS, will you post the link?
I can't find it.
THANK YOU!

The site says to sign up for MyUPS (free), but it doesn't give me any options for changing delivery status. If I actually needed this form, I'd call UPS and get the scoop directly on what to do.

I think people are forgetting that Apple has not sent anyone tracking numbers or moved an order to shipped. That we've been able to find tracking numbers just provides us with a little insight into the transportation process. Apple will send us tracking numbers when it's prepared to answer questions about them. As of now there is no reason to doubt that if your delivery date on Apple's site is 9/21, you'll receive your phone on 9/21. This is a complex logistics process that Apple probably planned for a long time.

I'm starting to get the sense that the overwhelming # of i5's pre-ordered is going to cause major logistic problems for people getting their phones on the 21st. Someone start a thread up title "Where the F is my iPhone!" If your i5 isn't confirmed in the Louisville be later tonight, you can probably kiss a friday delivery good-bye. Status updates for delivery will start to push out further and further from this point forward. (i hope i'm wrong).

And the first mistake was to try and use UPS for this.

At the moment Apple still owns the phone. Apple probably considers the phone to be in the staging process. Its assigned to your order for record keeping and inventory control purposes until they charge your credit card. Then you own it.

Ok, thanks. Feel stupid now. Just followed the steps given in this thread to track by reference on UPS, and looks like mine departed from Anchorage, AK early today. Just a little overly excited I guess as this will be my 1st iPhone. :)

Mine still says "preparing for shipment", but yet says "Delivers on 9/21"... I bought it at 2:02am PST.

Not real worried about it, the last few times i've done this it's done the same to me and I've gotten it on day of release... I actually got it one day early when the iPhone 4's came out.

Wow - you got yours after mine but mine delivers on 10/5 - must be a carrier/model difference.

Yep, got it this morning.

I did their customer support chat and they said Apple is blocking the shipments from being modified with MyChoice. Hopefully Apple will let us pre-sign on the orders page.

Are you kidding me?? Geez, this will go down in history as the most hectic event for an iPhone!!!;)

iPhone payed for.

I hope this is going in the right place in this forum. I'm a newbie here and I was replying to cold case. Apple has already charged my cc and I last tracked my iPhone 5 leaving Alaska at 2:58am sept.18 and have no idea where it's at.So at this point it's mine. Guess I lost it already huh?
