I get that apple has this master plan ensure all phones promised for the 21st arrive on BUT NOT BEFORE Friday (don't really understand it... but business decision)

But what a massive waste of resources. I cannot even imagine the number of packages, taking up what has to be considerable space, that have been WAITING FOR DAYS in Kentucky (and other warehouses) only to, at the LAST minute, overnight them to make sure they are there/here on time.

Just seems like a waste.

Try this.

Ordered both my wife and I iPhone 5's within 10 minutes of them opening for preorder early that morning.

I'm getting the 64 and she the 16. Both still say "preparing for shipment" and are due to arrive on the 21st.

I've tried every number I imaginable in the UPS tracking and I'm seeing nothing. Tried my order number for each phone, ya know, the W**** number and I've also tried the phone number associated with my itunes account.

Still nothing.

I'm kind of in the boat of , 'eh, I don't care as long as it's here the 21st', but now I'm maybe slightly concerned because all of you are seeing shipping logs and know exactly where your phones are and I have no earthly idea! I don't care if it's still on a plane from china, I just wanna know, lol. This whole tracking thing has intrigued me and now I'm reaching the point that I'm actually worried I can't find any info. Maybe I'll just call Apple up and ask for my shipping info.

Whew, breathe deeply, releeeease, it's going to be okay, :D.

This worked for me. You have to tap "tracking" in the very top bar of the UPS page, then on left column select "track by reference". Enter phone number associated in your iTunes account settings in the "Shipment Reference" box. *Enter nothing else, then hit track.

Same.

No serial info on my support profile from apple either. Do I add it or does it just automatically update?

Ok, for everyone who is wondering why Apple has not updated status to shipped even though a lot of people have figured out how to get UPS tracking numbers (or FedEx).

For those who tracked from China- China is production. When you order something to be shipped to you, it is shipped from a distribution warehouse not production. UPS main hub is Louisville Ky, it is also a drop ship distribution center for many companies who do not warehouse their products.

For those that came from areas in the U.S. and it now appears to be headed to Ky - those places are holding areas for storage. If you got your SN and checked it at the monkey site in previous posts you probably found that your production week was July or August and cannot sit and take up room in the production plants so they get shipped over to the U.S. and sit in a holding area other than UPS's busiest center.

Tomorrow we will begin seeing movement of all products to destinations close to you for delivery on launch day. At that point, you will begin receiving ship notifications from Apple because at that point it will be shipping from distribution to you.

Now, is it possible some of us will get our shiny new toy and nothing ever update - you bet because things happen. But this is why nothing has been marked as shipped from Apple and nothing is really moving away from Ky.

All that being said, I have enjoyed tracking mine to Louisville just as much as others, all part of the excitement to me.

since i will be at work most the day on friday, i called apple and asked if they could have ups hold it at a center for me to pick up. they said they put in the request to ups, so i am supposed to hear from them within 72 hours.

You'd Think I'd Be Patient-Apple Store Stuck On Prepared For Shipping

I've checked the Apple Store several times and it seems my iPhone5 is stuck on prepared for shipping. Using the "secret" way to track the shipment it shows it left Anchorage, Alaska early this morning. I'm wondering why the Apple Store just doesn't show that phone is in transit from China to the US? What is the point of keeping that secret?

Why don't you call UPS yourself. If you have the tracking number, you could have it held at the facility for you to pickup anytime after 8:30AM on that day.

I have the same problem, where the UPS guy always comes when I have to pick up my daughter at school. It is only a 15 minute gap, but he always comes at that time. I am unsure if we have to sign or not for it. So, I might call UPS also to have them hold it at the facility.

Read the giant quote box right above your post...

oh really? you can do this? i tried to do the My Choice option, but the UPS customer rep said apple had disabled this. i guess i was assuming asking to hold it would be the same idea.
