So many dumb people who don't even read the answers right in front of them. Who opens a Thread and doesn't even read the op. then the answer for FedEx is further down, its sdais they have the same kind of thing...
I hope so. We haven't overtaken the UK thread and are a long way from reaching the 10,000 post challenge.
Seconded. Two million extra rectangles in September doesn't come close to the volume of say, the Wednesday after cyber Monday.
Agreed. This "glitch" has let us see whats going on so far. Part of me wonders if this tracking info we currently have isn't the final and true "tracking number" but just a UPS way of getting them from staging to distribution location. I envision giant crates of small iPhone boxes that are being unloaded and run around the UPS depots in final preparation for shipping. I think its awesome that apple staged so many devices in irrelevant locations, like Nashville and Addison. I guess warehouse space was cheap and who would think they would use those places in prep for shipping. Just goes to show the kind of detail the fruit considers in dealing with such a large logistically challenging project. My guess is that they have been working with the big brown for months getting all this worked out.

You can not presign or leave a note etc. with UPS for your iPhone delivery.
I'm pretty confident we'll see movement tonight or tomorrow... I'm sure Apple is more concerned with the iOS6 release in a few hours. Still hopeful my iP5 will leave Nashville today!

It appears Apple did not remove funds from my account. My phone is in Louisville, but I just checked my Bank of America account and the funds went from Processing to *poof!* gone. The money was added back into my account.
What should I do?!?!
P.S. - My information still shows up correct on my Order Status page. Nothing is different and delivery is still the same.

it will probably be taken out again later today. They put a hold on the funds initially to make sure they are there....then the charge goes away....then comes back
Not an expert but you should be fine, pending payments can only stick around for so long... The full amount should be charged upon successful delivery.
Doesn't matter what reference number I use I can't locate my phone - billing number, shipping number, order number, order number less first character (the letter), order number less last two digits, parents phone number, dogs birthday, number of times I've tried to check tracking information, nothing.

I think as others have said, Apple and UPS have been working together on this. I think Apple didn't send out shipping notices/tracking numbers to help reduce the burden on the UPS servers. Now they just have a relative handful of us OCD's tracking phones, instead of 1M+ people. When they go live with tracking later today or tomorrow, everyone will be watching.

So i contacted the UPS today to see why it is not moving:
The ups staff told me that all package should move in first 48 hrs. and this one is not moved now 72 hrs. So you need to contact the shipper and ask them to open investigation on this package. I told her the shipper is Apple. She said even if it is apple, all package should move in first 48 hrs.
I contacted the apple.. apple says we did not ship anything yet. so can't open any investigation as we don't have any tracking yet.

I agree, let's talk iOS6. Do we need to upgrade our existing iPhone 4's today to iOS6 in order to do the iCloud recovery on a new i5 Friday?
Is anyone else with the Oct 5th date in your order confirmation mail still expecting delivery on the 21st? I ordered just a couple hours after pre-orders started and my apple order says estimated delivery is oct 5th. If it actually comes this Friday I'll need to make arrangements to have it picked up!
I agree. I thought the whole purpose of signing was to show that UPS are no longer responsible for loss of the package since they have done their part. By pre-signing aren't you basically saying that you have taken delivery, even though you haven't?
Thats what I'm doing, though I don't think it matters if you restore from and iOS 5 or iOS 6 iCloud backup.

I think today we will get some update. I only care the delivery date as 9/21 and they will figure out.

I wouldn't be worried. If I'm correct, the first time you see the apple "charge" on your cc is NOT a charge. It's an authorization making sure you have the funds available. This "authorization" may disappear, and then the actual charge from apple should appear on your CC.
