Yes, that's what I mean. They already shipped, right? So the status should say shipped, not preparing for shipment. At least status should say preparing for next shipment. What am I missing?

I think Apple is just protecting UPS's tracking servers at this point. Once Apple starts updating to "Shipped", I shall feel bad for UPS.

I went to my apple store yesterday, they told me they will have them available on Friday.

I remember when the bumpers came out, I didn't get one when I got my iPhone, went back later that day, there wasn't one to be found. Better get there early.

I don't think this is much more of a blip than what they get around the Christmas Holiday. UPS moves a lot of packages routinely.

Call me dumb, I don't care

I preordered around 9:00am EST last friday, order is still processing, and I'll potentially receive my phone Oct. 5. I, like everyone else, do not want to want any longer than I have to, so I'm considering canceling my [apple.com] preorder and going to my local AT&T store early friday morning and waiting in line. 1) will all AT&T stores have limited supplies on hand, or are they going to put people on a waiting list as the stores open? and 2) would anyone else consider doing this? Please stop me if this is a terrible idea. Thanks in advance.

It is the best idea in my opinion if you can't wait. Two years ago I did the same thing, I went to ATT store and stood in line and when I was certain that they had enough iPhones to accomodate me, I cancelled the order in front of the rep and showed him the Cancellation receipt/email and he immediately hooked me up with a brand new iPhone 4 :)

Don't just blindly cancel the online order!

You better get in line sooner than that!

No one knows, it should be busy,

There are other options, like Radio Shack, Target, Walmart. You may be able to reserve one there, but by now probably sold out. You could get lucky if you want to do some leg work.

i'm goin tomorrow night to give it a shot. worth the short drive.

Lol my bet is nothing leaves Louisville till Thursday night. It'll be air, nothing needs to move till then. Sending the phones out from Louisville before Hand only creates more package handling & each facility to hold the devices themselves. Pointless.

I think the latest they could leave is sometime tomorrow morning. This way you an account for all transportation time, sorting time, etc. Leaving Thurs night would be a nightmare for many local hubs. They need to have everything unloaded, sorted, and on that UPS truck early in the morning. They also need to give the driver all the information as well.

I'm guessing we start seeing some moves tomorrow afternoon at the latest.

UPS still shows mine departed from Alaska. They must be really backed up and not updating the tracking info. Who else is in the same boat?
Same here, I called UPS and they told me Apple gave them extra gas to circle around the Earth a few times to stall before it arrives and lands for Thursday night. :p

I bet they will start moving tonight (Midnight).

They've got to get moving soon. I have no tracking info since I departed Alaska. Hopefully we'll move to shipped on apple.com tonight.

Request to the original poster to add a poll with options of having departed from Louisville, KY and at the local UPS hub. That way no one would need to search the entire posts :)

Good in theory. However, people keep asking the same questions, over and over.
