Apple.com Preorder Status Thread (merged)

Am I correct to assume I am not alone in this or do I have an issue?

They take up any GPS device you have when entering the country. Still pissed I didn't take my Garmin Forerunner cuz I think it would have slipped past their attention.
 
I pre-ordered 2 iPhones. UPS shows for shipments, 2 are moving, 2 are in ShenZhen. Anyone else seeing double packages from UPS?

My serial # on apple support profile is all letters?! Had this been covered earlier, I did see anything paging though but this thread is huge.

Yeah mine is also all letters. Don't worry! :) It looks like my phone is traveling with yours because my tracking information looks the same as yours.

EDIT: Oh yeah and mine is also a AT&T 32gb Black Slate

same as me i called apple and they said if it says holiday shipping and has not shipped yet the chances are it is shipping from with in the USA and i will pick up today because it is a business day for UPS and yesterday wasn't for the USA.
 
Mine finally showed on UPS! Happened some time last night so no idea when exactly.

Site said preparing for shipment since yesterday. Put in my phone number it's in that one place on china with the long Z name lol. Least it departed there it said and I'll have it by Friday.

Really? Give it a rest. I never saw a single update last year and mine showed up on launch day. Annoying them repeatedly is just wrong.

My order was at "processing order" until I got an email 30 minutes ago saying my order was cancelled because according to AT&T's records I was ineligible for an upgrade. Called AT&T and they said I am indeed eligible for an upgrade. Had to place a new order and now I'm in the October order range. BS!!!

When I purchased the phone at Apple, and put in Sprint, I had to fill in some Sprint information to verify that I was eligible. I'm curious did your order go though these steps before your order was accepted?

Confirmation email timestamped 3:12 AM ET (T+12 minutes)

Current status: "Preparing for Shipment"

I cannot find the serial number, I cannot find tracking info with UPS or FedEx.

It seems a number of people are in the same place. I just hope I get tracking info soon, so that I can have something new to look at.
 
Got shipping on ups now!

Just left Nashville tn yesterday says delivery by end of day Friday shipped by Next day air shipping.

16gb black AT&T.

Hope it shows up in the morning as I have to work that afternoon!

i know right? mine didnt have any updates as well and i got mine on launch day. its just a phone regardless life goes on if you get it on a monday.

Ordered mine at 3:03am. 16 GB blk AT&T.

UPS has my phone chillin in Addison, IL and delivery estimate is 9/21 by 3 PM. WOO!

Also, I changed my shipping address on the apple stores order status page and UPS says that it's going to the right place. So to all of you that are worried because you changed your address, you can stop. IT WORKED :D

as a side night, this is sorta the same way that some luxury purses are coded!!

The last four characters are the same for everyone with a particular phone. It is characters 6-8 that are unique to your phone (well, not technically unique, but taken with all the rest of the characters, they are)

Basically, you can post up 12345...9012 but leave out 678 and no one will be able to identify your phone.

Characters in positions 1 and 2 are the factory is was made in (same for all Apple products made in that factory)

Character in position 3 - I have no idea, any guesses? Perhaps a checksum digit?

Characters in positions 4 and 5 make up the production week of your phone (same for everyone whose phone was made that week)

The earliest production week stated so far in this thread has been 32. That's the week of August 5-11 as shown:

32 - August 5-11
33 - August 12-18
34 - August 19-25
35 - August 26-Sept 1
36 - September 2-8
37 - September 9-15

Characters in positions 6, 7, and 8 show how many phones into the production week yours was (so naturally, knowing this along with the first five digits will pretty much give away your serial, if the person knows what kind of phone from positions 9/10/11/12 below)

Characters in positions 9, 10, 11 and 12 - these last digits are the Apple product model. Every iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple TV, or Thunderbolt display of the same configuration will have the exact same last 3 (or now 4) characters. This is why one of my iPhone 5s is F38W (64GB black for at&t or carriers in Canada) and the other is F38Y - all other people with a white 64GB phone on at&t will also have a phone that ends in F38Y. It could be made in a different factory (1/2), a different production week (4/5), obviously it'll be a different phone so (6/7/8) are different, but (9/10/11/12) will always be the same.
