Because the last thing they want to do now is get people's hopes up that it will definitely arrive on 4/24, and then have some mishap occur that prevents it from happening. Apple uses just-in-time production. This time it appears to have bitten them because their supplier had issues. The post-mortem will likely focus on what happened in the supply chain.
You do realize you read the email incorrectly right? ... it says it will be DELIVERED 24-8th ... when it ships you'll get your tracking formation for that 24th-8th delivery timeframe.
Most ppl don't get their order set to shipping until the day before release day. Ask some of those iphone 6 pre-order ppl.
Just imagine, a few weeks ago the forums were filled with people who thought the watch would never sell. Now it's filled with people complaining their watches haven't arrived yet.

I don't like the fact that I ordered a Space Gray 42mm Sport with confirmation at 12:04, and i have a delivery date from May 13-whatever, yet people in June are going to get theirs before any of the people in the same boat as me do.
Add to the fact that I live in Chicago and have 4 Apple retail stores in my area, you'd think Apple would send a ton of watches here for delivery.

My comment was mainly directed at apple and not you. The whole "it can ship between these two dates and you will receive an update when it ships" was stuff we all knew already.
If these things are supposed to arrive in two days, there must be some massive update coming soon. If someone who ordered on the 15th got a 'preparing for shipment', but there are still tons of people who ordered at midnight who haven't gotten their card processed, something is wrong.
Me too. And apparently I'm not one of the lucky ones to get a sooner-than-expected delivery. My order still says "4-6 weeks."
I took a screenshot of my confirmation at 12:04 AM PDT. When I placed the order, the estimated delivery was 4/24-28, but the ship time magically slipped to 4-6 weeks while placing my order.
I've always been very excited about Apple project launches in the past. I'm very disappointed with this one.
it's not entitlement issue. i wish people would stop using that so casually, so it doesn't lose the meaning.
the problem here is that they f'ed up the launch. plainly as that.
everyone only learn of the estimated 4/24 - 5/8 date…AFTER they pre-order.
Before that there were no mentioning about it. BIG huge banner on their website saying "Available 4.24.15".
was told one thing, and get something else is not entitlement.
it is called being deceived, in some cases that counts as false advertising.

Actually, I just had a "chat" with Apple. My order status says delivery between 4/24 - 5/8. But the lady I chatted with said it would SHIP between 4/24 - 5/8. Just torqued me off even more.
From top to bottom they have no idea what's going on.
I have a 12:01 confirmation email for mine, so I assume they're just updating them in order.
Exactly. Just doesn't make since at all. I have nothing against orders moving up but satisfy the early shipping estimates first.
