My order just switched to "Preparing for Shipment". I have "Apple Watch 42mm Stainless Steel Case with Milanese Loop". I ordered at 12:03.

This is weird:

I just got off the phone with Apple, and they told me that the watches are basically already at the regional shipping centers, and people who live closer to those shipping centers still have the "processing" status because it will be quickly shipped once they are ready to send them out. I'm like, "yeah ok". When I get off the phone I noticed that there is a charge on my account for $69.00 "Apple Care" Now this is very strange.

I just don't understand what is going on here...

Its really amusing how upset some responders to this post are getting. I too ordered at 12:01am on launch day, and can't wait to get my hands on my watch. From everything thats available from the numerous "news articles" it appears that Apple is processing orders by type "configuration" not by order number. I have 2 watch that I received a confirmation at 12:03am, and only one of the 2 is showing "preparing for shipment" although both have a 4/24 to 5/8 ship date.

Preparing for shipment:
Apple Watch 38mm Stainless Steel Case with Black Sport Band

Processing Items:
Apple Watch 42mm Stainless Steel Case with Black Sport Band

Still processing

Order confirmation email 12:04 PDT, 38mm SG. Still processing. That black band is causing extra delays. Oh well, I'll just place an order for 42mm ahead in case the probably late arriving 38mm feels too small.

I think this is correct. A whole bunch of people with the same watch just got charged at the same time.

Someone said somewhere that the Black Sport Bands are holding some orders back.

I've seen on various forums that some 38-42mm SS BSB's have been charged but not many. That's my combo. There are 4-5 cargo planes heading to Kentucky hub. Fingers crossed they have pallets upon pallets of SS's!!

Not A Tragedy, But Kind Of A Bummer

I totally get the folks who question why getting a product on launch day is such a big deal, but on the other hand, I'll admit I'm disappointed.

For those of us who are long-time, loyal Apple customers, we got spoiled by "One More Thing" surprises that could then be magically ordered as soon as the store came back online and we'd have it within days, not weeks or months.

Over time, that slipped and while the product wasn't immediately available, the delivery date would be clear from the outset and Apple would meet those deadlines.

Then came iPhone and the process evolved further, as it was announced months before orders were available. Still, once the delivery date was set, you could wait in line on launch day (as I did for the first iPhone) and you'd get it.

I've purchased pretty much every new product introduced by Apple since Steve's second coming. My friends would laugh at me, but then always ended up wanting it. From iPod to iPhone, Apple TV and iPad, I've always taken the gamble on first-gen products.

So, call me entitled, and I get it, but it's kind of sad to me that now that Apple is a popular brand, it's much harder for someone like me who is a long-time customer and who got used to access to new products immediately if I had the cash, to now be relegated to essentially a lottery of who has the fastest Internet connection and gets the store to load first.

Again, not a big deal, but it's kind of like losing Christmas. The thrill is diminished. And it doesn't help to see celebrities who are already pampered by society get special gold bands and such ahead of time.

It would be nice if Apple recognized their long-time loyal customers and gave them a preorder shot in advance of fad customers or those trying to make a quick buck on eBay.

That's all said as a customer. As a shareholder who bought in a long time ago at $20 to $80 per share, I'm not complaining.

Apple knows how to market crap for sure. Wonder how many were on the fence thinking the have no need for this, until.... Sold out, shipping in 4-6 weeks. Uh oh, get one quick....

After seeing it in the store I confirmed even more securely that this is a fad and for most people useless. I can see some really narrow markets for a product like this, but in general, it is a VERY overpriced accessory for the iPhone and has a 1 year lifespan before this model is obsolete.

That's OK. I'll get whatever use I can Out of it for however long the "fad" lasts.
I had Newton and Message Pa 2000. Didn't las long but I got a LOT of use out of them. Also, clear ancestors of tablets. Gotta start somewhere.:)

Only slightly similar...

I remember once upon a time pre-ordering something from Apple and getting a tracking number...yay!...and then compulsively tracking it. Up to the date it was delivered the status showed the product was in Shanghai.

Stuff gets screwed up in status land. I wouldn't freak out yet if I had a 4/24-5/8 shipping date just because it still showed "processing".

I have a 5/13-5/27 shipping date 42 SS Milanese. I'm checking compulsively. What's wrong with me?

Any Mac news on this site?

Ok, I get it. The watch is new, and it's going to be huge. Great! Still, I'd like (as I'm sure a few others would) to see some Mac rumors here on Macrumors! When can we expect updates on the 15" Macbook Pro models, for example?

I just called them. I think you may get better information if you call. I started with the chat, and it was basically BS.

What did they say when you called them?

----------

Keep updating if charges continue...I want to know when it ends so I know if I have any luck here...

How do we know that these planes have Apple Watches on them again?

In out

If I ever get my hands on that apple executive; im gonna give'em the old in and out

Two of my friends here at work ordered watches with the black band, their orders updated within about 20 minutes of mine, all three of us have also been charged.

Based on many past pre-orders I've executed I expect another update saying shipped relatively soon. I've never been charged without the product shipping very soon thereafter. Looks like some of these will indeed arrive this Friday the 24th.
