Why is everyone so angry? It doesn't seem very likely they would skip over the first batch of orders... more likely the procedure for how and when they update the online status is more complicated than we all realize.

I posted this in another thread a couple minutes ago, but I'll drop it here as well:

I had to call apple about an AppleCare issue, and when I was done, I started asking about the watch deliveries and managed to talk my way up the chain a bit. No idea if this is just their line to quell the repeat questions, but the manager in the order fullfillment department for the online store is saying they don't currently know of any delays and are expecting the entire first batch to be filled Friday. They did stipulate that the dates 4/24-28 are their new operating window for the first batch, but he told me to expect everything Friday. I haven't been charged yet, but they said I might not even see the charge until Friday morning, even if it is arriving that day. Anyway, take that for what it is worth.

Two of my friends here at work ordered watches with the black band, their orders updated within about 20 minutes of mine, all three of us have also been charged.

Based on many past pre-orders I've executed I expect another update saying shipped relatively soon. I've never been charged without the product shipping very soon thereafter. Looks like some of these will indeed arrive this Friday the 24th.

A friend of mine in Michigan with a SG sport just got charged and his ordered changed to prepping... I got my confirmation email seconds later and still have nothing...

Someone said somewhere that the Black Sport Bands are holding some orders back.

I too have a 42mm SG sport and just got charged and got preparing for shipment just couple hours ago.

Would anyone get upset if I posted a screenshot showing my SS w/ Black sport band ordered on 4/13/15 changed to preparing for shipment?

Haha... I was going to say something similar, but I would have been lying too. I got my order confirmation at 2:13am. Not expecting until May 13. Any earlier would be a pleasant surprise, but not expecting it.

Hoping to see a change soon; just too eager for it!

42mm Space Gray Aluminum (Pennsylvania)
Ordered at 3:03, estimated delivery date of 4/24-5/8.

Holding out hope!

I ordered my watch two minutes after it went on sale and I still have no shipping info. Something is very different about this launch But still hoping for a Friday delivery.

Seriously, to all the people complaining about how Apple has skipped over their order, think of Mcdonalds! :D

Typically I find if you order a popular/limited edition burger that takes more time to make, the person serving will take your money and move onto the next customer and process their order while you wait. Would you say "Hey, no! You have to wait until I have my complete order!"? Probably not. This might mean the guy behind you will get his food before you because he ordered something else that was more readily available.

With the watch you don't need to be a logistics expert to understand that if your order was for a popular model then that order will be delayed until they can get that model. That certainly does mean they'll skip over you and move onto someone else while they're waiting for you.

And yes, I'm in the same boat. 24/4-8/5 and still not even charged for my SG watch.

ordered the same as my brother's but 40 minutes earlier. he got his status changed but not mine.

42mm Space grey Sport finally says "preparing for shipment"!

Finally!! It says preparing for shipment! I just changed at about 4:30 (mountain time) today! Hopefully ill have it by Friday!

Edit: I got my confirmation number 2 minutes after it opened.

I totally get the folks who question why getting a product on launch day is such a big deal, but on the other hand, I'll admit I'm disappointed.

For those of us who are long-time, loyal Apple customers, we got spoiled by "One More Thing" surprises that could then be magically ordered as soon as the store came back online and we'd have it within days, not weeks or months.

Over time, that slipped and while the product wasn't immediately available, the delivery date would be clear from the outset and Apple would meet those deadlines.

Then came iPhone and the process evolved further, as it was announced months before orders were available. Still, once the delivery date was set, you could wait in line on launch day (as I did for the first iPhone) and you'd get it.

I've purchased pretty much every new product introduced by Apple since Steve's second coming. My friends would laugh at me, but then always ended up wanting it. From iPod to iPhone, Apple TV and iPad, I've always taken the gamble on first-gen products.

So, call me entitled, and I get it, but it's kind of sad to me that now that Apple is a popular brand, it's much harder for someone like me who is a long-time customer and who got used to access to new products immediately if I had the cash, to now be relegated to essentially a lottery of who has the fastest Internet connection and gets the store to load first.

I think you're on to something there. There should be an automatic get-to-the-front-of-the-line for n generation product orders, when you also purchased the prior generation. The more generations you purchase, the further toward the front of the line you get; i.e. if you purchased first, second, and third generations, then you're still ahead of someone who only purchased second and third. New products, all bets are off and you're stuck with order of purchase.

it's not entitlement issue. i wish people would stop using that so casually, so it doesn't lose the meaning.

everyone only learn of the estimated 4/24 - 5/8 date…AFTER they pre-order.
Before that there were no mentioning about it. BIG huge banner on their website saying "Available 4.24.15".
was told one thing, and get something else is not entitlement.
it is called being deceived, in some cases that counts as false advertising.

but thanks for the baseless insult

Are people in that 4/24-5/8 getting their watches on 4/24?
Yes.
So for the others, they are feeling entitled and hurt that theirs isn't showing up...."but I haven't gotten the prepared for shipment yet!"...uh yeah, it isn't even the 24th and there is still TWO weeks after that to be in the shipping window.
That is entitlement.

Did some people who placed their order right away "felt" that they should have it on the 4/24 launch because they were quick to order? Those that did are demonstrating entitlement.

Were people unable to cancel their order after they got the shipping estimate?
Yes.
There is no deception, just entitlement. I mean it isn't as if this is the first time in history that a hot product sold out quickly.

Don't take it as an insult. Just recognize it for what it is.

It's seems like any Space Grey models are REALLY back logged! I know some have seen them start to slowly roll out but it seems like a lot of the people posting that haven't changed have a variation of SG. I for one have a Sport SG and still have a June shipment. Ordered the morning of the 11th. I was not staying up till 3am for a watch. However had I known they would be in such short supply and high demand I may have consireded it!

What they say when you called?

They told me that the watches are basically already at the regional shipping centers, and people who live closer to those shipping centers still have the "processing" status because it will be quickly shipped once they are ready to send them out. I'm like, "yeah ok". When I get off the phone I noticed that there is a charge on my account for $69.00 "Apple Care" Now this is very strange.

Apple knows how to market crap for sure. Wonder how many were on the fence thinking the have no need for this, until.... Sold out, shipping in 4-6 weeks. Uh oh, get one quick....

After seeing it in the store I confirmed even more securely that this is a fad and for most people useless. I can see some really narrow markets for a product like this, but in general, it is a VERY overpriced accessory for the iPhone and has a 1 year lifespan before this model is obsolete.

I see it going the other way. Within a decade, the watch will be the phone.
