It's hard to stand by and say nothing in the face of something so blatantly disrespectful to so many members of our forum, who have enough of this kind of thing shoved at them in daily life.

I myself didn't realize this thread would get quite like this. I was hoping to discuss the history of the use of the rainbow in the LGBT rights movement. It was just a bit of culture and history I had missed out on even though it happened around me at some point.

I live in a pretty progressive part of the country, so many of these arguments and discussions were settled a generation ago, pretty much starting with my generation. Threads like this are a startling reminder it's not all that settled for the country as a whole.

Nothing about Apple donating proceeds (1% to 100%) to these groups. Call me sinister, but I call exploitation on Apple's part. No reason not to have 100% go to groups. The actual benefit to Apple being more bands out there may spur more AW sales, that benefit them in the non-direct orbiting sense.

It always mystifies me why 'stright-pride'-type homophobes actually care that much about hating people who aren't living the same way that homophobes do.

So what if someone else is different from you? You're not the one being discriminated against left, right and centre. Get on with your life safe in the knowledge that nobody ever anywhere is going to stop you being straight. And shut the [blank] up.

No, you just are not following your own train of thought and the consequences of your words. You want a "straight band" because you don't think straights are being treated with equality. But in reality gays are not being treated with equality, therefore you are bashing the homosexuality community by taking this away from them. There are many different ways to use the word bashing. You should freshen up on them.
You sure do make a lot of things up in your head. And you keep putting words in my mouth. But you are wrong.

I haven't made a single thing up, but keep telling yourself that if it helps you sleep better at night. ;)

The problem with this now, other organizations & causes are gonna single out Apple for not supporting them via custom watch bands, especially for things that Apple already has strong support for, like environmental protection, immigration, etc.
Is that really a problem though?

I’d be more than happy to support even more good causes like this, would love to see Apple do it.

A watch band that supports gay and lesbian communities? Where's the watch band that applauds the straight people? It's got to work both ways or else it's sexist. Funny how that works huh?
A MRM band would be hilarious.

A group sits down for some mashed potatoes. Everyone except Bob gets some mashed potatoes. Bob says "What about Bob? I want some mashed potatoes too."

You respond "Why should we only do something for Bob?".
Apple says, "lets do something that only benefits gays."
I say "lets do something that benefits everyone."

You're right and I agree. The point I'm making is that, if there was a watch band that was to only support straight people, the LBGT would go nuts and file lawsuits! It's got to work both ways right? "People like me"?? I'm just trying to be equal here buddy.

In any case, this is a private company offering a product for sale that no one is forced to purchase. If them having a Pride focused product offends you (or if you want to stick with your argument that the lack of a "Straight Pride" band offends you) you are free to not buy the product or even take all of your business elsewhere. Apple could certainly offer a "Straight Pride" band if they wanted to and then others would be free to switch to another vendor for their needs. Your false outrage is entirely transparent and not fooling anyone.

That would mean that everyone else will always have more potatoes than Bob. No equality.

And, of course, Apple already does things that benefit everyone.

All these people yelling at you have the definition of first world problems. You're 100% correct of course but the perpetual "Im a victim" and "blame everyone else for my problems" mindsets have already taken over in the US. It will be a while before that cycles out.
Finally someone understands my sarcasm over this ridiculous 1st world problem! You're right, it looks like we have a long way to go.

Guys just stop feeding him. He is doing this to push buttons. He is clearly full of hate.
Yup, I’m done.

It’s worth posting in threads like this, not because of the trolls who post, but because of the people who might read it and fall for their nonsense. Same reason why it’s worth calling out such people in the real world. You’re unlikely to change their mind, but you might give thought to a bystander or passer-by.

On here, once we get past the first few pages it’s a case of diminishing returns though. ;)

I support it by loving and standing with my gay friends. Not paying for some ridiculous material product.
Your responses have varied drastically, but if you at least know and support people who are out of the closet in your own life then I applaud you.

Im not offended by a lack of a straight watch band. Im just painting the picture of this ridiculous first world problem we have here in the US. It has got to work both ways or else it's sexist!

Same. First time in a while that I felt the need to respond frequently in a PRSI thread. I can't do much, but I try to make sure everyone who reads MR feels like they are welcome, particularly relating to LGBT topics that appear around this time of year.
