Mode: 42mm SS Black Classic
Status: Processing Items
Email: Yes
First, the email was executed badly (and really did more harm than help). If you read the title first, it looked like an order status change, which (from both what I've read here and for myself) got a lot of people's hopes up before finding an email with no actual info and lots of questions (like "Why did I in particular get this?").
Second, I think the date ranges for the watches has been a mistake as it has lead to a lot of confusion. Even off the bat, it was a little confusing since the order page was the first place anyone saw the range. I know that it was likely unavoidable because of uncertainty on their end, but they've had a couple weeks to get things cleaned up, and they should be able to tell people a much tighter range on their orders. Really, at this point, people in that first launch window should be able to know a 1-3 day range.
Now for what I'm pretty sure is actually happening right now. It's not that Apple has intended to mislead anyone, as much that they've been afraid of underdelivering on their commitments, so they're being vague and hushed on the timelines. Somebody on their end is screaming that these will be delivered on launch day, while someone is screaming that the engines can't take anymore, cap'n. In some cases, it results in some models appearing way ahead of time, and others the possibility that they might slip.
The problem is that I see there being an element that won't admit to itself that some of the orders/models might slip past launch day. They say that they will get delivered and that's it. And this is why we won't get any specific information. While I would love an email saying a projected date (even if it was a week or two out), that would be admitting that it might not arrive at launch and someone's not willing to say that if there's still a chance.
At least that's what my imagination says at 1:20am
