It really is joke, don't get me wrong, but I can't be mad when I don't control the situation. Apple knows what they are doing and I trust them. Like most have already posted, this doesn't change the original window of 4/24-5/8, it just is an assurance that we have to wait.

I know that I was getting frustrated not knowing why my order is not being prepared for shipment when you have all of these planes coming from China full of watches. But, the email showed the Apple is aware of the frustration and is doing what they can to "ease the pain."

doing what they can? "oh hey, we stuffed this **** up. lets send an email that doesnt say much".

when you stuff up, you offer explanations, not political party answers.

While you're waiting watch some videos to settle you down, oh, and we're saving the planet by not rushing around trying to get these things out, we're 100% green.

I remember when the Harry Potter books were launching. Amazon would guarantee that all books arrived exactly on launch day. They pulled it off despite shipping a lot more books than Apple is shipping watches. I don't understand why Apple can't do the same thing for those who got a 24th date. If Amazon can do it then what's up with Apple!

Did you ever consider the remote possibility that it just *might* take a teeny bit more time and effort to manufacture an Apple Watch than it takes to print a book???

Some of you folks think all one has to do is wave a magic Harry Potter-style wand and voila! --- millions and millions of Apple Watches - right out of thin air!!!

I got this email too. I'm kinda thinking about canceling and ordering a SS one like I actually wanted now (I was reluctant to put down that much money on a first-gen Apple product), but I'll definitely end up waiting until June if I did that.

Anyway, Apple provided a date range precisely because of the possibility of not shipping Watches before the 24th. I pretty much expect it to come on the 8th. Any earlier is a bonus for me.

I got this email as well just a couple of hours ago. It feels like a prepare to wait email to me... I ordered 38mm black sport within the first few minutes of pre-ordering.

I admit that Apple who are king of logistics seems to be operating out of their normal behaviour framework with this new product but from an inventory propspective this is a more challenging launch.
For the iPhone 6 and 6 plus there were only eighteen different combinations of phone and it's a product that Apple understand the demand well.
When you look at the different configs for the watches there are fifty four in total and bearing in mind that this is a new market it is very difficult for them to get it right first time and keep everyone happy.
Give them a chance. They will get it right

Lame!

I got the email tonight. Ordered a 42mm SS Classic. What makes me the most disappointed about all this is the DATE RANGE. Apple said April 24th up until 12:00am April 10th. It wasn't until ordering went live that they introduced the messed up 4/24-5/8 shipping window. Until then midnight April 10th, we didn't know there would be a date range for shipping. We didn't know it wouldn't be available in stores. We didn't know in-store pickup wasn't an option. Lame, lame, lame!

There is nothing wrong... It just un expected demand... maybe...

It will be worst if they sell it on retail.. Imagine that 54 configs.. You go there lining for a week and they will say the black is sold out... Blue is also sold out.. Only pink left.. The smaller one.. Even iPhone some are disappointed no more gold..

Amazon is a distributor, not a manufacturer. it isn't the same.

Ordered 2 Watches, 1 minute apart, using 2 different Apple IDs (one watch for me, one for my bride as an anniversary present). Received confirmation email for mine, which I suspected would have higher demand so I ordered first, at 2:03am (Central US Time)--used Apple Pay. Received confirmation for the second watch at 2:06am, paid by manually typing in credit card info. On Monday, the SECOND watch I ordered moved to "Processing for Shipment" while mine is still…"Processing Items."

My watch: 42mm Space Gray Sport w/Black Band.
Bride's watch: 38mm Sport w/White Band.

Clearly a case to be made for shortages of the 42mm Space Gray Sport w/Black Band. Why else would a watch I ordered a few crucial minutes later ship FIRST before the 42mm Space Gray/Black?

What bums me out the most about this is not that there's a delay for my watch; I'm actually pretty juiced to see my wife use hers & see how she likes it

Completely off topic but I've never seen anyone refer to their wife as "bride" before  It's kinda regal and creepy at the same time....! :D

Wanna know something ****ed guys, I got a shipped confirmation hours ago even tho I placed an order 2 hours after the preorders have began

You did know that and you still gave Apple your money. Apple gave you the promise of a product in the future. ;)

The most disappointing thing here is that people who made extra effort to get their orders in within the first few minutes are now having to wait for their orders DESPITE the fact that people who ordered almost half an hour after them already got shipping notices for launch day delivery.

Which means Apple lied when they said they are processing our purchases in the order they were received.

Order placed 12:08am PST, SS 42mm w/ white sport band. "Preparing for Shipment" since 4/20. No email.

If you haven't received that email, you are clear. I didn't receive this email and UPS sent me a tracking number not too long ago. You should be alright. Looks to me like the people that received this email are going to see their watches next week or later unfortunately. Which sucks : /

Oh wow, it looks like I'll be getting my watch tomorrow but this is nothing new for Apple. I preordered a white iPhone 4 and on the release date they announced it would be a month late, 2 months later I just got the black one. The white one was released 10 months after its original release date. They sold out all pre-order phones in under 24 hours and each successive release of anything is sold out in even quicker time. This will only get worse for each new product as large as Apple's base is. The only difference is there is no availability in store on release date (but it looks like the high end boutiques may have some so just get to one of those and wait in line) just as there aren't any new Macbooks in store either. The watch is the first thing I've pre-ordered since the white iPhone 4 because I either did the line thing or waited. I bet most everyone who pre-ordered within 24 hours will receive it sometime May which isn't much of a wait unless there are production problems with the black watches or bands. And by the way where is my black new keyboard and black force touch trackpad to match my Mac Pro!!!

You're right, I could have not pre-ordered the watch. But I did. And my only option was a two week long date range. Something Apple didn't say anything about until midnight 4/10. Most of us early purchasers could be hanging around these forums until May 8th. That's messed up.

I was hoping all these latest UPS flights from Alaska to Kentucky were carrying the 42 MM SGS watches, but I have yet to see anybody get confirmation of their shipment coming out of Kentucky. Weren't there so many UPS flights apparently going there? I know when my iPhone 6 Plus shipped to me it was out of Louisville, Ketucky the night before release.

Kinda glad I cancelled my 38mm Stainless Steel watch with black sports band on Tuesday now. I was regretting it when I read that UPS had upgraded to 747's to move cargo from Asia to Anchorage, but it looks like they were full of sports watches.

I had a feeling the SS with black sports band AND my 12:06 AM PST confirmation email was a bad combination.

I'll be first in line for v2.

I can't stand why people are complaining about having to wait just a week or two longer. Us Dutch people may have to wait until May 8th for (pre-)order of the Apple Watch to start. And than still it could be possible the release date will be somewhere near June/July. So please don't act like you're all having a bad life or so. Think of those who have to wait even longer until they can order. :p

I don't know, I think it is unclear. The date range they always gave was 24th-8th, so I don't think they could have suddenly promised everyone the 24th. I called apple earlier this evening, and they told me it was meant as a "product intro" to give the customers about to receive the new product links to their guided tours and such. That smells a bit like B.S. to me, but still, the email is definitely not decisive... it could have been meant either way

I agree that apple's response definitely sounds like B.S. I REALLY hope I'm wrong, but I still stand by my interpretation.

I don't think anyone was in doubt that they'd receive their Watch on or before the end of the listed 4/24-5/8 timeframe (which would then make this pointless as a reassuring email as no one would need reassuring). Rather, everyone is concerned whether or not they'll get it on the official launch day. In which case, this seems like a gentle (or maybe not so gentle) reminder that Apple has until 5/8 to fulfill their end of the bargain.

That said, I really do hope I'm wrong.

I also got the email of death and have that exact same configuration you had ordered.

Seems like Apple is facing mayor production issues with that model. This launch is a disaster
