These ads seem to target Beats-wearing hipsters / college dropouts that rather live in Twitter and FaceBook than in an office environment. So that's the target market. They have variable jobs that pay less, can't afford a house or a car, work from Capuccino-bars. Their only time-critical transaction is calling an Über to get their next interim-job. So understandibly, there is little time to open a laptop-clamp which is too heavy anyway. It might damage their newest sneakers. This is the category Apple calls "Pro" - without designating a specific area of workmanship.
They probably don't know what an envelope is - so forget your tweet.

How do you or Apple define "abandoning"? It has been years since Apple advertised any Macs this aggressively.
[doublepost=1490918187][/doublepost]View attachment 694242

That lineup is crazy. Even if you're generous in Apple's favour and assume the Mac mini is finished with, as is the MacBook Air - you still wonder why on earth the iMacs and MacBooks haven't been released yet. And what the hell is going on with the Mac Pro.

It seems to be more than the Pad, Mac argument. OSX is getting more buggy. It needs a good clear out of all the silly Siri, chess, Dashboard, iBooks, Launchpad, Mission control, Notes, Photo Booth, Reminders etc apps. iCloud constantly drives me mad with unwanted interference with the 3 Macs/pads in my house and there is no way to bin it. The latest iMovie feels retrogressive and works one way one day and another the day after. I will not pay £300 for the emasculated FCPX or iMovie Pro as it now seems and will buy Adobe. Apple's "we know better than you what you want" attitude to the iPad and MacBook/iMac/MacPro lines and everything else is what will gradually dilute the customers confidence in the brand. Apple looks only at the share price and bottom line. They should remember they need us a hell of a lot more than we need them. Windows computers are out there, bang up to date, made by a divers range of good manufacturers all competing to be the best and please us. Apple seems blinkered and stagnant, anaesthetised by its own BS.

My tweet

"iPad still is just a big iPhone. Where is the iOS innovation?"

So you work with spreadsheets, documents, music performance controlling, movies on the go, read books, draw and so on on your iPhone as well?

Well i don't, i think the iPad is better for those tasks, and thats what i use it for..

Yep, its just a big iPhone, if you only use it to check facebook, and write messages :p The screen size does matter in the other use cases (and probably many more)

Actions speak louder than words.

I really hope they don't abandon the Mac but even this website shows that people are more interested in the iPhone/IOS.. The IOS articles always get more comments than the Mac ones.

I can't imagine they'd abandon the Mac because I doubt they'd want to use windows machines

Isn't the 12" iPad Pro with 128GB storage more expensive than a Surface Pro 4 with 128GB RAM and an i5 CPU running full Windows 10?

Apple has repeatedly said they are NOT abandoning Mac.

Actions speak louder than words indeed. The Mac Pro is pushing Schiller's "sad 5-year old computer" mark. Aside from the middling MacBook (Pro) updates, no other Mac has been attended to in 2 years or more. So yea, until proven otherwise, the Mac line feels pretty darn abandoned.

He probably uses a real pro device to perform all those tasks (macbook / surface). I would go nuts if I couldn't swipe easily between multiple spaces.

I like the ipad pro, but just call it an overpriced ipad. It doesn't scream pro. An ipad (air) is also capable of running those tasks.

Don't be that kind of sheep.

I really think that their iPad Ads are ridiculous. Advertising an iOS device as a pro device for productivity and content creation should be a crime.

I'll be honest-if I were in the market for a tablet right now (say, the first time in my life) these adverts for iPad Pro? Well... they wouldn't inspire me, that's for sure.

They really don't know what real "PRO" work means. I work in Telco area and iPad is completely useless for such work. I just use it at home for simple tasks. With IOS in the current form there is 0% chance that majority of real professionals will start using iPad instead of MBP. Though I can imagine that certain tasks can be done on iPad, but not in my case ..

iOS for iPad needs real multitasking.
I'd like to have a background slot, where I can define apps which run constantly in the background: For example a SSH Tunnel App.

Then I want freedom of Apps: Alternative Appstores please.

Not between spreadsheets or most productivity apps for that matter. Copy, open other spreadsheet, download lag, paste, open other spreadsheet, lag, copy something else, repeat. Can't open two instances of same app... You can't have a laptop replacement without that functionality.

Open one spreadsheet.

Copy one cell. Save it to Copied.

Copy another cell. Rinse and repeat.

Open 2nd spreadsheet.

Switch to Copied keyboard.

Paste your data in one after another.

Saves me the hassle of toggling between 2 spreadsheets open side by side on a PC.

Not all work has to be "Pro" to be considered work.

There's plenty of work which falls into the middle zone and which can be done on a mobile device, thereby allowing the user to do away with having to contend with the complexities and idiosyncrasies of a desktop operating system.

I would prefer iPad as second device to my iMac if it was possible to connect DSLR directy and download photos there for later work... not via iCloud to Photos app

sadly, iOS doesn't support file managing, and that is why I don't see a point buying it

The lack of file manager is the only thing that separates it from laptop

Not when your tablet can be used as a desktop and laptop.
With Ipad, you still need a laptop or desktop to finalize or distribute your work.
Besides if most don't use it for work why have a "pro" device. And we all well know what most people do on a mobile device non work related. I bet a "regular" ipad is capable of running those takss.

I got the 9.7" iPad Pro for the Apple Pencil, which I have been using extensively as a teacher. I find I have come to love iOS and embrace its strengths and limitations. For example, I like my apps silo'ed by apps, ironically enough.

I want a tablet that was built from the ground up for a mobile touchscreen interface. The surface pro feels way more of a laptop than a tablet. To me, the iPad just feels like it captures the true spirit of a tablet computer more than a windows tablet ever can.

I'm not gonna lie, I could make an iPad Pro my main device for school. With that being said, It won't be the current model with it's ugly camera bump and measly 2gb of ram. I have money saved up for the 10.5 inch. That's what I'll be buying.
[doublepost=1490937788][/doublepost]

I'm telling you it's the 2gb of ram.

It's not only though as computers did that task just fine with 2GB ram some years ago. It's the way iOS functions. It doesn't really allow true multitasking in the same way that a computer does.

Have you guys saw Samsung S8, is able to connected with a Monitor and use as desktop replacements. It can have multiple windows opened at the same time. It simply a dock that you connect your phone and is desktop computer.

That would be cool for the Ipad to have this option.

I for one was impress by it. But can't say much about since I saw short clips of the presentations.

Personally i like these new ads, the iPad Pro is a great device that i use daily and has surprised me since i purchased mine in 2015 when they came out, i have done more on my iPad Pro than i have with any other iPad i owned. I think if Apple keep updating the software with more Pro features (such as being able to annotate within areas like Safari) then it will get better and better over time, let's not forget that it's the first generation of the iPad Pro.

I'm not one on my own who thinks the same

Steve Jobs LOVED high powered standalone PCs. He invented the Next, which was mind blowing at the time. Not to mention the Apple I, II, etc. He certainly would not have let the Mac line crumble. They would be 10x more powerful than they are today, no matter what it took to do that.
That was back in the last century. Things have moved on since then. (Haven't they?)

So entertaining watching many here saying Apple is going to drop the Mac. Yeah, just keep on making stuff up...
It depends on what one considers drop/abandon.

Some could argue that it has already happened. I am not quite there yet.

I think that Mac articles get lots of comments, the issues is that other than boring (imo) minor beta MacOS updates seeded by Apple, there is hardly any other Mac related articles. It seems like there are many iOS/iPhone/iPad articles for every Mac one.

Lately, it seems like there are more political articles on the MR front page than Mac related ones.
