My iPhone 4S's battery life is just fine. It was fully charged at 6 am. It is now 5 PM and my phone is at 60%. I have used it for 2.5 hours and 9.5 hours in standby mode. I have location services, bluetooth and Siri's raise to talk on all the time.

I have an iPhone 4 and since 5.0.1 I've got a huge improvement in my battery, and I mean HUGE!

53%
Usage 7hrs, 24mins
Standby 1 Day, 0 Hours

And that is with Twitter and Mail updates being pushed to me and a good hour and a half of phone call...

That's the good old iPhone 4. The new iPhone 4Sucks the battery like there's no tomorrow. 5.0.1 did very little if nothing at all to help that. IMHO my worst technology "upgrade" was my switch from iPhone 4 to 4S. Talk about flushing your money down the toilet...

Yeah, just talked to Apple on the phone... They told me to take my 4S to an Apple Store to swap it for a new one. I'll tell ya, I'm so close to returning it. Just wish I could have my 4 back with iOS 4. Notification Center, Siri and Faster CPU/GPU= not worth it.

I agree 100%. I love the new stuff but can't live with a phone that is dead by 8:00 PM every day.

I hope you guys know that Apple says this update is for the battery life, but it actually patches a hole for the upcoming jailbreak. If you wish to jail break your iPhone, DON'T upgrade to 5.01

No, you are sadly ignorant.

I upgraded from a 3GS and the 4S is spectacular.
Most people did not experience battery problems with IOS 5/4S. It's just that it is very annoying for people who do, so you hear a lot from them. Anyway, it sounds like 5.0.1 fixes the issue for some at least.

I was not planning on upgrading until I broke my 3GS... but now that I have I can't imagine going back. Everythign is better: better battery life, much faster, screen is superb, cell reception is much better, Siri is cool, looks nicer, etc.

I currently have an iPhone 4 that has the antenna issue. But I never notice and use it like any other cell phone.

I think the battery issue is a problem that does need to be addressed which it is by Apple as they acknowledge the problem and working on it. But like on any internet forums you tend to hear more the negative problems then the positive. Have a friend that did have a battery problem but was fixed with the new version of iOS 5.0.1.

I think people are expecting more and more features from their phones with the same or greater battery life. It just gets harder to do.

5.0.1 does not seem to have helped my 4S. It did seem to last longer in standby mode, but with even moderate use it is still draining the battery at about 1% every 3 to 4 minutes. Doesn't look like they've found the problem yet.

And Siri is still acting dog slow. They should really add an option to revert to the old voice recognition on the fly.

Apple is starting to piss me off. I guess they only test a few iphones in beta? They must have seen that they only are able to use it for 12hours! It will be empty, even if you dont do much.

Mine is empty in about 8hours of use, that is wifi on, 3G on. Using mail, imessage, no games, no videoviewing. This is really bad bad from apple. I hope they can fix it.

My wife and I both have an iPhone 4. We got them the day they came out and mine has always had really good battery life on every version of the OS including 5. I use it continously every day and I only have to charge it every other day.

My wife's had an issue with the battery draining really fast for a while. I turned off Push on her mail account and the problem instantly went away. After about a week, I turned push back on and it still works normally, about 6 months later.

Sometimes I think some of the items like push notifications just get "hung" and need to be reset.

I am getting pretty fast drainage as well even after update. On my iphone 4 non os5 I would use tune in radio that uses max 10% (90% left) after 30 minutes of continued use. On the 4s ios 5 I get down to 80%-75%. That is a big difference! I also still see fast drain when it is not being used. I hope it gets better when I drain it a couple more times. This is ridiculous.

I am not experiencing any battery life issues with my 4S. If I leave it on Standby it sucks hardly anything. Overnight on WiFi I will wake up with 98 or 99%.

I agree...

I am wondering if it's some 3rd party app you guys with poor battery performance are using.

Mine's been up for nearly 6 hours since charge, and less than 5% of battery used.

I have a couple of 3rd party apps, but not many.
All my location services are on, and I have about 6 email accounts running on it.

My guess it's some 3rd party app. Somebody suggested restoring your phone to stock. That might be a good starting point.

audio and bluetooth

What I want to know is what the hell they are doing with the major bluetooth and audio issues???

I am SERIOUSLY getting tired of my phone defaulting to and getting stuck on speakerphone when I try to make a call.

And at this point, I've turned off bluetooth, as it is so broken it is useless.

I got an hour extra usage compared to 5.0. My best in 5.0 was 7 hours usage and 1 day standby. I have the phone set up the same way as in 5.0. Here's what I posted in another thread:

iPhone 4S
iOS 5.0.1 (not beta)

-Brightness 50%, Auto Brightness ON

-Siri ON + Raise To Speak ON

-iMessage ON

-iCloud ON (everything enabled in it except photostream)

-Location Services ON for the following: Maps, Nike+GPS, Siri, Speed Test, Trailers, Find My iPhone

-WIFI Sync ON

-BlueTooth OFF, Ping OFF

-I have the following disabled in System Services: Diagnostics & Usage, Setting Time Zone, Location-Based iAds

I have 3 accounts in Mail. One is just a normal Gmail account, another is iCloud, and then an Exchange account. I don't use PUSH/Fetch. I only check my mail manually.

USAGE:

I did a lot of streaming off of Pandora and Slacker with the high quality audio options enabled in both those apps and I had the screen ON at times to change stations, like/dislike songs and skip songs. Volume was either at ~30% or ~60% depending on whether I was using Pandora or Slacker. About 50 texts (sent/received combined). 1 short call (no more than a minute probably). Safari for like an hour at the very least. I checked my email manually 10-12 times. Watched 3 youtube videos (they were about 2-3 minutes each). Played Lane Splitter for 10 minutes. Played Virtual Table Tennis for like 5 minutes.

Everything was done over 3G from 100% down to 20%. Then from 20% to 0% I was on WIFI. I lost 3% in standby from 3AM to 8AM while I slept.

That's about as detailed as I can get.

8 hours of use or 8 hours of standby? If you get 8 hours of any use out of it then you're a lucky one. If its standby then just join the refund queue.

My iPhone 4S is using as much as five times the battery in standby then my wife's year old iPhone 4. What's next? Last time Apple gave me free rubber band to remedy an antennae problem. This time they will probably give away free battery packs... Better make them car batteries...

I have literally been trying to drain my battery all day so I can charge it full and have been using it nonstop with the music running on Macs and video I can't drain it!!!

I have zero apps running in background and I already did clean install of iOS5. It's still as crap as it ever was.

I updated to 5.0.1 yesterday on a Iphone 4 ATT and today went to the gym and in the 2 hours I was there lost 40% just listening to music with maybe 5-10 min of internet. Been on the charger (usb on desktop computer) and went from 35-45%. Only 10% gain in an hour of charge.

I never has this drainage issue pre 5.0.1.

There is NOTHING WRONG with the battery on the iPhone 4S~!

After using the phone all day, I've never seen a charge value of less than 60%

Sure there isn't... Apple just loves releasing updates to fix that "nonexistent" battery problem.

battery sucks...

I lose about 50% of my charge while I am asleep!!!!
I barely make it thru a work day, and that is basically not using it.
Good thing is that the battery charges quickly, but could that be the issue as well, do the batteries suck?
