My new car has the keyless entry and start thingamabob. Where I can leave my keys in my pocket/bag, and simply unlock my car by putting my hand inside the door handle, lock it by touching the door handle, and start the engine by pressing a button on the dash. As long as I have the key somewhere around me.

I thought that it would be cool, but no big deal, who cares geez I can just pull the damn key out of my bag and twist it in the ignition right? I really didn't appreciate how amazingly convenient and frictionless it would make things. Until I had it. Now I can never go back.

The Apple Watch is kind of like that. Turns very repetitive and mundane tasks into very lightweight and completely frictionless efforts, just by glancing at your wrist hands free. Doesn't sound very killer until you actually experience it. Now it feels like a chore to grab my phone out of my pocket just to view my latest text.

How spoiled, I know. I probably just wasted my breath, but what the hell I'm bored tonight ;)

Nah, both the car's keyless and the Apple Watch are gimmicks indeed, sorry.

The Apple watch is a well built accessory, considerably underpowered. But its power is not the problem. The problem is it's a solution searching for a problem. The keys, at least, come with the car and such an option implies a residual price increase. The watch has no clear purpose, it doesn't matter how much you talk about frictionless and so on, don't try to create an artificial new "user experience" mantra, and it's as expensive as the phone. It's not Apple's fault, it's just that the segment is unnecessary. And for being a fashion accessory nobody can say it's beautiful, it can be well built, balanced, or whatever, but it's insipid.

The watch was released with one and only one purpose: keep AAPL shareholders cool

In my opinion these ads are all so out of touch with reality.
Even the stylistic direction is surreal.
No one changes their Apple Watch band to pink to change their outfit style. No one uses their Apple Watch to turn off the lights.. The only realistically useful application is the find my iPhone feature.

This is a far cry to the simple 'I'm a PC' ad which used real world examples for real every day people.

The Apple of today seems to cater to an imaginary group of 'cool' models.

I think it's worth to pay $300 just for the lost iPhone feature.
I dont think that's what Apple thinks either.. These ads are meant to show a few cool features but not show off everything it can do

Marketing changes. I think you need to adapt to new trends or you're only getting older. This is what will make it successful.

I actually change my band to match the outfit. I don't have a use for pink though. And I do use the watch to turn off the lights. Guess I'm a "cool model". Yay! ;)

As others have mentioned, until you can use the watch standalone they are missing out on a large chuck of fitness enthusiast. There are almost 20 million runners in the US alone, and without GPS on board they are surely missing out on a large portion of this group. Additionally, the HR sensor has proven to be extremely unreliable during exercise.

These are all great, so short and sweet.

Does mean this AW generation will be around for a while longer?

I'm dying to get one, but it seems like we are so close to a second gen that I can't bring myself to spend the money!!

Funny you say that because my wife *just* got her watch and is now on a spending spree for bands. As you well know, things have to match! I am hanging on to my wallet and finding reasons to only buy 3....oh well. You obviously are on the super cool scale :)

As for the special whiny posters, where else can some people go and whine about products they do not own? So, they come here to find some meaning in their lives

Great ads! Short, feature-specific, and unique. Apple has seriously stepped up their game lately.

Nope, both these gentlemen are in the right forum. They hate the product so it has to be useless and everyone buying it is either stupid or really stupid. After all, where else can they go and share their misery about a product they dont have!

Listen, projections say that fewer and fewer people are going to be buying smartwatches in general, including the Watch. Customer satisfaction for the Watch is some of the lowest in Apple's current lineup. The more time that Apple spends marketing and developing a product that nobody wanted in the first place, the less time they spend updating things people want and need.

Go to the Mac buyer's guide. Look how many were due an upgrade 100 days ago. Look at how stagnant the iPad Airs have become - they 'innovated' by adding an extra £200 for features that need to be in all new iPads. The Watch is a waste of money, time, and effort - for both Apple and consumers.

There's a nice element of perfection in these ads. I just wish Apple's business and production aimed and reached that level of perfection as well.

I don't know why Apple assumes they are a fashion watch manufacturer. Personally I think it looks ugly and utilitarian, like a Timex or Casio digital watch. Wrapping gold around it doesn't make it any more stylish.

If I were headed out to the clubs or for a special night out the first thing I would do is take off any smartwatch as I'm not going to head to the clubs wearing a "fitness band" and think it makes me look cool.

Sure, for all other purposes the Apple Watch might be a great watch for casual/daytime/exercise usage, but clearly Apple is way out of touch trying to promote the Apple watch as something fashionable when it is nothing more than a glorified Casio digital watch.

Even if you paid $10k for it, it's still a $350 digital watch with $500 worth of gold on it that proves you are dumb for spending $10k on it.

I was born in the 90s and grew up in the 2000s... I'm smack bang in the middle of the target audience of these ads!

I also think there is such thing as 'bad' marketing.

I know people like you. I avoid them when possible :D

Seriously, I love my watch. I wear it all day every day. I find it very useful especially because I do not have to pull the phone out of my pocket all the time. Clearly you haven't tried it. And I think it is way better looking than pebble or android wear stuff.
Things also lost the last piece of seriousness with "Looks like something from a Happy Meal"...
