Regaining hearing was never covered, but Apple has teamed up with MBAF (the Mute Button Awareness Foundation) in an effort to make some of their commercials less abrasive.

:p

I don't see what the big deal is. We may not like the music, but obviously lots of people do, because the people featured in this as are well known in their regions.

Wow, this thread is such a disappointing evidence for the conservative mindset of macrumors readers. Not that everybody has to like the music in the ad (in fact it's not my favourite kind of music either), but it's not too much to ask to pretend for 30 seconds that you don't judge everything that you encounter right away. I always thought the slightly off-mainstream ads were Apple's strength. Where other ads completely disappeared into the easy-to-digest mainstream blur, Apple's ads kind of stuck out. But people here seem to compare Apple's ads to some kind of status quo.

"The music was TERRIBLE, not the usual easy-listening songwriter stuff, so un-Apple-like!", "What kind of font is that, that's no Myriad or Helvetica Neue, so un-Apple-like!". Whatever, I like it when they just try stuff, even when it pisses some people off (apparently). Actually, I kind of like the thought that it pisses some people off.

Watching videos, looking at people's social feeds, and browsing the internet all day is what I call a waste of your life.

Spent my weekend sitting on the couch drawing pictures in Procreate. Better than saying I sat on my *** watching movies on Netflix.

What in the world are you babbling about?

This is ACTUALLY the sound of this generation (at least a part of it). As for software quality going down, you will have to do a lot better than just say so. Also, considering the abysmal quality of the competition, AKA Android Lollipop, Apple doesn't much to worry about.

I can assure you Lollipop runs way more stable and fluid than iOS 8 does on hardware that is similar in terms of release date (iPhone 5, 2012 vs Nexus 4, 2012).

You're probably thinking Windows Phone. Android has come a long way and in OS fluidity is now better than iOS imo. It's a shame apps are still pretty lacking, and Apple's ecosystem is still second to none, otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to switch.

Truly awful ad from Apple, one of their worst. Awful music and tacky concept. I'm normally impressed by their ads but this is shocking. Will try to switch channel every time I see it. Worse than tinnitus.

You're right. When you realize that 99% of musicians are barely making a living, and how short most musicians career is, especially these days, I think all musicians should be commended for their resiliency; even the ones I don't like the music of.

But a ton of those at the Grammys are making the big dollars, and that's what matters to the GP's (general public) perception.

Indie bands/artists exist by the millions, and they're not there.

Apple is losing the plot. I know I sound like a "Apple is doomed" guy, but it's far from that. They're not doomed, far from it. They're lost though. First it's U2 for all, and now it's some crappy beats made in Garageband than can be passed off as music to the newest generation. They don't know what they're doing.

Software quality control has gone down like 10 pegs (figuratively at least), commercials are a joke...Apple, it's not too late.

Remember how in the keynote a few months back when Tim Cook unveiled the iPhone 6 and Swift, in that when he spoke of competitors being 'lost and confused', Apple 'had a clear and direct vision'?

Remember that?

Looks like it's not what it all appear to be. And they say Tim is the right man for the job?

I have to ask WHO actually 'green lighted' this commercial in Apple? I know iTunes and Beats is Eddy Cue's call, but the commercial part had to be given the 'go ahead' by Mr. Cook. Anything the VPs do, the CEO has to 'okay' it.

I just saw that commercial this morning on MR. Since they're from Sweden, they're definitely not an underground band as someone mentioned. This is a professional band relying on an iPad despite using other equipment.

And I'll tell it to you straight. When I go to live turntable events, I have NEVER seen any DJ pull out an iPad for their music. Just old school Pioneer turntables and a laptop ( Apple or Windows ) hooked up.

The only exception was one student down in a bar owned by a local college who used an iPad to DJ and there were less than 5 people there. It was that embarrassing.

EDIT: one other thing. There was another local professional DJ, a few years ago, who actually brought a huge 21 inch touchscreen computer ( not Apple, I think it was Sony ) at the nightclub to run the entire thing without using turntables. It was pretty cool to see it in action but he never used it again after that. I suspect he was experimenting with it before he went back to old ways.

I've never used Garageband so I can't comment on the technical use for it. But it wouldn't surprise me when professional musicians actually use higher end software compared to Garageband for their work.

----------

They're showing a use-case scenario that isn't applicable to the majority of people. I'm not even sure it's that applicable to the musicians involved--it seems very forced.

It's definitely 'forced'. You can tell by the cinematographic style and final edit of the cut in the video by way of pacing. It was all planned out and not spontaneous.

Exactly. Even David Guetta, worldwide DJ, uses a laptop. iPads are just for show.

It's like photography. The iPad version of Photoshop is meh, and real photographers use that and Lightroom (along with other tools) on a Mac or PC.

Same with coding (I work in IT). I would never ever code on an iPad, even if all the dev tools I need were available. You really need a desktop for that. Typing code, debugging, etc...all need to be done on a workstation.

Don't get me wrong, I have iPad and use it daily too, and yes I love it for what it is, but its development has been slow and still not as significant as an iPhone, or smartphone in particular. I have no intend or need to upgrade it as often, which is why the market is a bit stagnant (as a respond to the original post). Everybody has already got a "good enough" iPad and hesitant enough to buy a new one.

This is why I think Microsoft is kicking Apple in the a$$ due to improved Surface Pro devices and increased expandability. I still have the original iPad but never upgraded for a long time until they get moving with their iPad development instead of crimping it.

We saw this commercial durring the Grammy Awards last night. My wife looked at me and asked "what was that, i don't get it." I had to explain it to her and walk her through all the apple products the next time the commercial came on.

I thought it was okay, but when my wife doesn't get it, it makes me think that the commercial will not come accross to a lot of other folks like her.

Right... So its a shame it doesn't run smooth on CURRENT devices... It is not surprising it took months to crack 1%; even Android focused sites agree on it being a big mess initially, and only slightly less than a mess now.

Imagine if Apple delivered crappy software like that! But, you knew that, of course... And thus I to call you out on your intellectual dishonesty. BTW, there are still bugs in KitKat. Considering a huge number of phones are only gong to get KitKat, when will Android take care of those issues?

BTW, I run more versions of Android that you can probably think of on several Raspberry Pi's and actually have old Android phones lying around for testing.

Windows is better than Android, bu it is also riddled with bugs and we've got the mountain of updates to prove it; and of course, there is almost no apps for Windows on mobiles.

Actually to code properly, you need a proper keyboard with mechanical switch keys. It's far, far more comfortable that way ergonomically speaking. I use a Microsoft ergo keyboard and is comfy to my fingers than the Jony Ive-designed chiclet keyboard.

I use a Wacom tablet strictly on my iMac for professional reasons but the iPad (1G) I use is mainly for visual conceptualization phases to work out an idea but never for the final output. The Wacom Cintiq companion, however, can do both which is nice but also very expensive.

Good grief, its a commercial, of course its planned... Man! Mr Obvious.

Considering the Beatles did all their songs on with a mixer with just a few tracks, not sure why a professional musicians couldn't do quite a lot with that software which does a lot more. I know a few musicians with Ipads used it similar way as the commercial, though they don't really use it for reading partitions (its still too small for that).

Kicking its ass by selling 20 times less devices; devices on which Microsoft actually loses or barely makes any money with... That makes so much "sense".

I understand that you think Apple is not responding to your specific needs; but the whole kicking ass seems to be oversold when looking at actual facts.

Very few, even those that are million sellers make the big bucks these days. Most of the artists in the audience are in fact grinders, just like most people in Hollywood. Only the A list are truly really rich. The biggest sellers of the last 12 years are in order : Eminem (150M records), Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Adele, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Kayne, Beyonce, Black Eye Peas (all have sold more than 75M records)

Even those that make big money right now, probably won't be making it for a very long time. That'S how the music industry goes. Few make it and few have staying power.

Touring is now a necessity for survival even in pretty successful bands.

Yes, it's "easier" for things it was designed for. Grab and use for browsing on the couch, or watching movies at lazy times. But not much more in my personal experience. It's still an electronic paper in most cases. I was hoping it replaces something (hopefully, Mac and PC) instead of adding or complicate things.

Right now I feel too many "in betweeners" on today's gadgets. From Apple alone, there are Apple Watch (supersmall), iPhone (small), iPad (not too small), and also Mac which consists of laptop (a bit large but not too large) and desktop (large but not 60" large). iPhone is getting bigger while iPad is getting, well.. nowhere.

Don't get me wrong, I have iPad and use it daily too, and yes I love it for what it is, but its development has been slow and still not as significant as an iPhone, or smartphone in particular. Everybody? Uh no. Not everybody. And this forum is so full of themselves at times that they think they are Apple's only customers. There are thousands more people that want an iPad and just haven't drummed up the funds to get one.

sad to say but the surface 3 ads were better

Sad to say but you have no idea what you're talking about.

I use a membrane gaming keyboard for well, gaming, and also coding (and have for years). It's definitely not as good as a mechanical (I love Cherry MX blues), but it gets the job done. As I play mostly FPS games, having a good mouse is more important than a good keyboard because it's basically W,A,S,D,space, shift and caps lock, along with some other keys.

Chiclet keyboards are amazing for typing, I love them on my rMBP. The problem is they tend to wear out after a few years, and keyboard replacements are expensive (you have to switch the entire top case if it's a laptop). So I use a USB keyboard when on my desk.
