Why not stop this "thinnest" ******** and go back to the first retina design so everything fits better and cools better?

I won't even start with the Touch Bar.

I'm still keeping my 1996 Macintosh Performa. I can't stand computers that are not white. I can't explain why, but I resist change so I'll keep my old stuff forever.

C'mon, USB-C and keyboard complaints are getting old.

USB-C is already here, but "keyboard complaints are getting old", really? A keyboard that has had issues since day one "is getting old"?

Its just great to purchase a 3k USD laptop that has keyboard problems over and over again

This design is their best.

Love the size and keyboard. I use mine A LOT both in the office and around the world.

COST? I just checked and APPLE will give me $1000 for my MBP 2016. That means a new laptop for only $1500??!??!?

These look pretty sweet - I’m tempted to upgrade my 2013 mbp. Maybe I’ll wait to see how the new machines do thermally before pulling the trigger...

Wow this was unexpected! If this keyboard is as reliable as their old keyboards, then I might just buy this. Waiting for someone to do some tests and an iFixit teardown...

If they pull this off it might just restore my faith in Apple! I really want to stay with macOS, but couldn't bring myself to buy a computer that is known to become faulty.

Does this mean no 16 inch model anytime soon?
This definitely does not mean a bigger display version isn't in the works. I'm surprised they announced these today, rather than during WWDC. But maybe at exactly that event we would see newly designed laptops?

A bit disappointed to see this less than a week after I took the plunge on a 15" MacBook Pro, haha. I'm still in my return window, but I think I'll just keep what I have. The processor is already fine for what I need, and I'm mostly just happy knowing that if my keyboard goes out, I'll get the newer one that's likely free from failure.

Overall, I've been very impressed with the upgrade from my 2015 13". I'm primarily using mine as the brains of my home recording studio, so it stays stationary and is used with a Magic Mouse and Keyboard 75% of the time.
No idea why you wouldn’t upgrade for a possible 40% speed increase. I mean why not? I’d be running down there for that alone.

Funny how mine, and everyone else at work works just fine...yet people like you insist its a failure/disaster *eye roll*. A few people having issues doesn't mean the entire thing is a flop.

Mine has failed twice, including during a $2000 tech conference that was worthless without a notebook.

There was an issue with throttling shortly after the 2018 MBPs were released, but it was quickly fixed via a firmware update. I have a 6 core i9 and do a fair amount of video transcoding that easily maxes out all 6 cores for quite a few hours, and I haven't had any issues with throttling.

I've got news for you, throttling is a heat issue and there are only two ways to fix it. 1) add more cooling to dissipate the heat, or 2) slow down the CPU so that it does not generate that much heat.

Now which do you figure Apple did with a software update?

If you are maxed out on CPUs, you are being throttled on Mac hardware. Period. A big 30+ pound Dell server, not so much. If the Dell is maxed out then there is just not enough CPU. A commercial Dell server uses big heat sinks, uses high velocity fans that make a lot of noise, and can therefore use CPUs that can run 24/7 at full speed, if needed.

Macs are not designed for this. Instead you get a pricy, thin computer that has specs that it can never achieve for more than a few seconds and always runs throttled unless it is just idling. This is not necessarily a bad thing for a desktop, unless you need more.

Enlighten me on how a design that fails to properly cool a system and delivers a flawed keyboard design due to "there is no more space inside this body so we have to make a noodle thin keyboard" is "their best".

Note also that with the Intel chip upgrade comes faster memory on the 15-inch MBP: 2400 MHz DDR4 on the 15-inch MBP with 9th-generation Intel chips versus 2133 MHz LPDDR3 on the 13-inch MBP with 8th-generation Intel.

"Substantially reduce" keyboard problems? Not "eliminate" keyboard problems?

Keyboard problem? What keyboard problem? 99.99875% of our customers are completely happy with their keyboards... we just did a little update to quite the other small percentage.

Sincerely,

Apple

I am happily working away on my precious 2014 MBP... in celebration of its awesomeness, it is getting a new, faster SSD tomorrow.

Looks like I am going to hang onto it for another few years.

Same here, 2012 MBP Retina. Which SSD are you getting? I had an OWC 480GB that was very problematic. I put back the original 256GB SSD and it now works flawlessly.

Hi Tim Cook, is that YOU?

Will the chassis overheat non-stop and cause the computer to throttle itself, basically being a "spec sheet cheater?"

Are the new models still using ddr3 ram instead of ddr4 and charge $200 to upgrade 8gb of ram to 16gb of ram? (8gb of ddr3 is $30-$40 btw. )

Will the ram and ssds be soidered to the motherboard, and not allow for upgrades?

Will they still offer 256gb and then $200 to upgrade to 512gb (512gb drives are 50 to $100)?

One thing is for sure, people will keep buying mediocre and sometimes defective Apple products at a premium price, which is part of the problem.

Still a soldered in place, locked down, unupgradeable, unexpandable, poor heat management slab of nope that'll thermally throttle the moment those 8 cores begin to approach anything resembling real work.
They're just re-hashing old designs again.

How incredibly disappointing. Honestly what is the point in increasing the core count and speed if the thermals exceeds the cooling capacity? I mean can you even call it cooling? The keyboard is just awful. Why apple continues to use this design is beyond me. No return of USB type A and SD reader is a real bummer. No mag safe either? Damn it. I guess I have been fortunate to have my 2012 macbook pro last as long as it has (using it to write this rant/complaint). If this is Apple's pathway of their macbooks then that's the end for me. I guess apple really doesn't want to continue building traditional and FUNCTIONAL macbooks anymore. What a damn shame. 2016 marked the death of the macbook pro. Sounds a little dramatic sure but I just can't help feel so let down by this.

Good luck with that... I expected they won't be redesigning anything, but the saddest/funniest thing is that they have already included 2019 into the keyboard repair program. I still can't believe it. It's like publicly admitting you have just released a flawed product that costs a fortune.
