Waiting for Android blogs to talk about how big phones are so "2011"...

Who will do it first? My money is on Droid-Life. For an Android blog they sure talk a lot about the iPhone.

I noticed no one here was talking about Android, or even mentioned Android, until you brought it up.

For an Apple fan, you sure talk a lot about Android.

Wouldn't u wanna watch an ad with Justin Timerlake voice in more than just your typical Apple voice ?

Makes the whole ad appear better then it really is...

To me, that just says "trying to get more bang for their buck", and in the case of Apple. "They don't need it since they make enough money anyway"

I wouldn't have watched the ads anyway. I don't care who does them, just as long their from Apple.

I lol'ed. I enjoy watching Fallon and Timberlake.

It looks like they are targeting Android folks though.
Announcing to them that Apple has big phones too.
(As if they didn't know already !)

Here kitty, kitty.

As a marketing major, I'll still readily admit I'm not an expert, but the Timberlake/Fallon "huge" one sucks (haven't seen the other). That's harsh, I know, but it's harsh because this is for the most valuable company in the world. It leaves me thinking "wow that was pitiful, they tried so hard to be funny." Besides that, 95% of people won't know who's doing the voices unless someone tells them, they'll just think it's a couple of people who think they're funny.

Sorry, Apple. You can do a lot of things in-house and you do them excellently. I wish advertising were one of them, but advertising is something completely different. This is Apple thinking they can vertically integrate anything, it's arrogance. It's not much worse than their previous agency's work but it misses the mark.

I am a marketing exec here in L.A. ALL of Apples ads relate product to lifestyle. These are no different.. just in tone..

Apple as of late is experiencing some "i" everything perceptual issues... because of its growth. Eventually that sentiment can turn its cool factor fully negative as a counter to "i" everything culture. Brilliantly Apple continues to highlight its products USEFULLNESS and are trying a set of ads geared towards customers of OTHER brands to appear LESS threatening as Apple typically scores negatives for those who feel intimidated and unwelcome and most importantly not sophisticated enough to join the Apple TRIBAL culture.

The only real way to market a product is to step outside of yourself and think in terms of the mindset of the market "out there" wherever out there is..

I admit I'm a solid "core" customer. Some here in these passion driven forums are "core" customers. These ads are clearly not meant for "core" customers, hence the negative reactions here.

The fact that so many here are reacting with negative anger and clamouring for "traditional" Apple ads... shows they are SPOT ON...

What's a "core" customer? I've got 2 Apple TV's, two iPads, two Mac Pro's, Mac mini server, Mac mini, thunderbolt monitors, airport extreme, airport expresses, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6+, FCPX suite, etc etc...

Well, those people who feel threatened may be hardcore Android fans too. So you can't really trust their "feedback" entirely here. :)

I actually quite like these... Show some new good features in a very casual way... The only one I didn't like was the "DUUUM DUM DUM DUM DDUUUUUUUM" ad...

The general reactions here regardless of "alliances" are of no surprise. Do you think Android fans as a hole only love the Samsung Anti Apple campaigns and not cool ones that highlight how great those products may be?

Factoid - Samsung is over $250 million in on their Anti Apple
Culture ad campaign. Answer me this... Has it worked?

iPhone sales are at record highs even with the Anti Apple onslaught not just in advertising but in media in general.

The iPhone 6 is a runaway blockbuster -- period. Their success will be crushing to Samsung's current Galaxy product cycle.

Would you argue that these larger phones are clearly targeted at large screen lovers versus Apple core customers? Don't believe me? If not then you didn't line up at the launch day store lines... Many many new faces.... Did I say Blockbuster ? Yea I did.. This cycle for Apple will be by far their biggest cycle to date... This before smartphone recycle sales begin to cool off overall...

2nd one better, although not super.
The great customer response is all that Apple needs anyway......which they WILL GET

Well, it's a good thing Apple followed in Samsung's footsteps then and decided to release bigger phones. Otherwise the iPhone 6 wouldn't have garnered as much attention as it has.

Threatened by what, I wonder?

Um, let's see.. Price is one.. Perception it's an expensive elite product meant for a certain customer and social class..

The Apple culture is another. That in itself is construed as elitist. The best. The one and only.. Why do you think Android is so appealing to those who counter that "culture". The anything but Apple mentality. That's a huge base especially among young males...

Why do you think that Apple is positioning the Watch as the Apple Watch and not an "i" Watch? They know that cliches will only grow over time and eventually really hurt the brands value in perceptual marketing

Look at Samsungs ad angles to answer the rest...

Oww dear Apple, some false advertising there. They talk about Image Stabilisation, showing both the iphone 6 and iphone 6 Plus in the same shot, only the plus has it.

Disappointing. Surely the person who signed these off, knows their products??

While I agree the 6 and especially the 6 plus will cause headaches for Samsung, I don't expect the runaway success of this year's launch to repeat itself at the levels we just saw when the 6s comes, and definitely not with the 7. There has been a huge pent-up demand for an iPhone with a bigger screen for a long time, and the fact that it finally came is what made this launch so spectacular. But by next time the novelty will have worn off...

Um, let's see.. Price is one..

Price? Most high-end Android phones with similar specs like Galaxy S5 or Galaxy Note 3 and 4 are less expensive than the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

If you mean to say that giving more money to a multi-billion dollar corporation is a good thing, then yeah I suppose that's a solid bulletpoint.

If you define yourself and your self-worth by the electronics that you have in your pocket, then yeah, I'm sure the iPhone does satisfy that elitist need that some people have to be better than others. And, who needs individualism anymore when you can be part of a corporate 'cult'ure that prides itself on everyone being and acting the same? (Are you really paying attention to what you're typing, by the way?)

Why do you think that Apple is positioning the Watch as the Apple Watch and not an "i" Watch? They know that cliches will only grow over time and eventually really hurt the brands value in perceptual marketing.

Actually, I'm more than sure the $350 asking price is going to affect the brand more than anything.

Sure, and let's just ignore Apple's "angles" and pretend they don't have any.

They do both have image stabilization. Hell, the iPhone 4S had image stabilization. What you are thinking of is that the iPhone 6 Plus has OPTICAL image stabilization, which they did not reference specifically.

Well, it's a good thing Apple followed in Samsung's footsteps then and decided to release bigger phones. Otherwise the iPhone 6 wouldn't have garnered as much attention as it has.

In fact 100% correct. It could be the makings of a brilliant strategy. 3 years ago sinics the world over would have laughed the Apple brand into non existence with huge "oversized" phones - go back look at the initial negative reaction to the "ipad" name branding. Apples core customers thought of the Androids large phones as "giant", "too big", "you look stupid carrying a tablet phone", "lacks practicality", "tacky", "ugly", "unhip"...

Only Apple could make these screen sizes "new" again to the larger mainstream market and that will pay off handsomely.. Those 128 gig phones aren't just to satisfy storage needs but will certainly lift the all important ASP and most critical Gross Profit Margins...

By sheer volume Apples best days are ahead of it. Last weekends demand proves it... Record turnout at every Apple Store... Record lines... All in the heels of Samsungs $200+ campaign attempting to uncool lineups for new products. Trust me - the iPhone 6 onslaught was a hard blow to the gut at Samsung... You could almost declare the Anti Apple campaign as a whole - it backfired and good.

As they say - be careful in your advertising when you over obsess on your competitor instead of building your own perceptual branding. What a waste of $200 mil..

Yea I think wasted...

These are really disgusting ads targeted directly at the competition. /s

I think they're more of a take on the old Mac and PC ads. Only this time without mentioning the competition.

My favorite thing about these ads is they're short, to the point, and actually show you Apple's phones and what they can do. Unlike the competition, who also shows you Apple's phones.

The 6 does have image stabilization, but it's electronic, while the 6 plus is optical.

Uh, except they're not "new".

In fact, most tech sites are criticizing Apple for not going the full mile and matching the pixel density and resolution of their competitors.

iPhone 6 has a relatively low PPI and isn't even 1080p resolution. Its closest competitor, the Galaxy S5, has 1080p resolution and a much better PPI.

These screen sizes are only new to Apple, not to the rest of the tech world. iPhone 6 and 6+ are Apple's way of catching up to their competition, not surpassing them.
