5 hours is useless, I work 9 hours and need 12 hours per day...... I'd rather the 3.5mm jack, I don't need stereo speakers built into the phone, I don't even need one speaker, they're small and crap and I only ever have my phone in vibrate... I never use the built in speakers.

tl;dr most iPhone 7 podcasts listeners now get a 2x audio improvent to their preferred listening method.

Marco Arment discovered from stats from his Overcast app that the vast majority of his users listen to podcasts via the built in speakers. I do too. They may not be the best sounding in the world but it's easier and for whatever reason I just don't like listening to podcasts via my headphones. Most listen along while doing other things. Perhaps you aren't the centre of the universe.

Based on the comments and complaints I assume most people aren't familiar with the average price and battery life for this type of product is.

5 hours of battery life and $149-$159 or whatever it is, is actually very very good.

Samsungs versions cost $199 with 1.5-2 hours of battery life

Bragi Dash are $300 with 3 hours of battery life

Does anyone know how quickly they charge when in the case? I probably wear headphones roughly 5-6 hours during various times during the day unless I have a lot of meetings that day. I'm hoping if I just pop them in the case and into my bag when I go home everyday that it will be enough to cover most work days.

I'm also interested in the audio quality of these compared to the EarPods. I hope it's significantly better. Is there a compatibility list for Macs and iPads available?

Lastly, do they fit better than the EarPods? I don't have big ears but my canals seem to be a little big on the larger side.

I wonder if they will pair with the Apple TV so I can listen to it's content wirelessly?

As for staying in the ear, yep, it's a problem for me with the current EarPods. I bough a pair of silicone thingy's to lock them in my ear better. They work pretty good and I am sure there are going to be companies that will make similar solutions for the new ones.

Wow! Those are ugly! Who decided to stick a baseball bat out of bottom of the airpod? They look best suited for a call center in a telemarketing company.

2 predictions:

1. Multiple 3rd party brands will be selling earpod fins
2. Multiple 3rd party brands will be selling earpod string/connectors.

If these are sweatproof once my jaybirds die these may be my next set of bluetooth earbuds.

I gotta see, these caught my attention more than anything else so far. I'm a little disappointed at the 5 hours of battery life, but the batter case was great idea.

EDIT: $159!? NOPE

Funny, I saw $159 and was all about it! Especially after going back and forth and back and forth and back and forth for months over the Bragi Dash earphones because of the price.

I wonder how quickly they will recharge to 100% in that case?

that's key...could i drop them in the case when i walk to the office break room and then come back and have another half-hour of play time with just 5 minutes charge?
According to the product page 15 minutes charging provides 3 hours of listening time. That's actually very good and probably alleviates most concerns about the battery life. Too bad they have no insulation.

This was my show stopper moment. I listen to podcasts all day at work (I walk around constantly) and I constantly have just one headphone in so I can still listen to what's around me. The fact that these automatically switch to single earpiece mode (not to mention the seamless switching of devices) is just...perfect.

These are the wireless headphones I've been waiting for.

They look cool, but also look like they'll fall out with any sudden movement.
Agreed. Looks cool, that's the best thing about it so far. But looks cool :) And seamless pairing. They could highlight it a bit more, seems to be a real improvement.

I think price is at par with other products. So is the battery life. That plantronics edge which is I think for some 100 bucks has six hours of battery life.

The only problem I foresee is falling off the ears. And that's a big problem. Besides, these will clearly not work for workouts.

I am actually very curious about those bragi (?) earphones that they released for 150 bucks. Got to check out their reviews

The hate is strong with this one.

I'll leave my judgement until I can try them out. If they are comfortable and have good audio fidelity, I think they will be worth the price. There is a whole lotta technology packed into in these little dudes.

For someone who thought these would be upwards of 200$, I think I'm pretty happy with the pricing.

Although I have just one massive question, supposedly if I drop them while running or they just happen to fall on their own cause of movement, is there something to track them?! Like a beacon or something!

If you know anything about sound you'd know Airplay is better than bluetooth. Sonos is better than Airplay. And cable is better than Sonos. So to my point, I was actually excited for today, my thought were that Apple would release a new software feature with Airplay P2P tech that could stream higher res format (eg. flac) to headphones wirelessly, without loss and maybe a longer buffer. I however don't know but think these headphones are bluetooth? If they are then I have no idea what Apple sound engineers are smoking. They are basically replacing an OK sound from 3.5mm to bluetooth low-audio streaming quality and then expect people to but Beats headphones, which is pretty much an 80 dollar headphone for 300 dollars with a built-in EQ. The Airpods are problebly 20 dollar sound for 159 dollars. I mean what the ****?

If you're a soundnerd like me you know how bad this is. Hopefully we will see audio-companies like Denon, NAD etc to produce Lightning DACs for this device. It's like we're going back to buying a seperate mp3 player just to get good sound quality. The more Apple "invents or copies" (iWork vs Google Doc in mind), the more I want to go back to the "original". It's like I want to go back in time and buy a compact camera, Mp3 player (or even CD), 6.3 mm headphones, just to get great quality. I may be just old, but it's how I feel. Where's the innovation? Where is my Airplay P2P? Where's Apple Music with Apple Lossless quality? Where's a new "Airplay adapter" for home audio (like Chromecast audio)?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it agin. Perhaps you are not Apple’s target demo? Sad, isn’t it?

I think the AirPods look great. I’m disapointed they’re not water resistant, but they’re still a very nice lookking device. Will I buy? Maybe. Maybe not. I might take a look at the PowerBeats3, as they’re made for fitness use and are likely more water resistant.
