Many homeless are mentally ill
I understand that people don't care about the homeless, and that they're an eyesore, they smell and cause problems.
People just want to have their latest toys becuase they can afford them.

to quote you........"so now you can read people's minds?"

to act like you.........many means more then half........where are your statistics that more then half are mentally ill?

Lol, ok... I can tell by your angry little one line zingers today that for whatever reason you're desperate for something to be angry about.
To the extent that you're willing to make up outlandish stories...
You're living up to the "nutjob" moniker quite well.

What makes you think I'm angry? I'm a little disappointed in people's reaction ("Apple can do no wrong"), but I shouldn't be surprised, I guess. I tend to respond thoughtfully to those who post thoughtful replies, and one liners who post the same. I'm sorry I'm good so at it!

I don't know why you think I made it up. Going by your name calling I'm guessing you're the one who's angry. But angry at what? That I reported what I saw? That Apple isn't a saint? That hopeless people have miserable lives?

I would encourage you to start your own thread with your concerns if you feel you need to explore this further. Maybe you'd attract someone that actually heard what was said and who the security people were, and what the situation was. And go back and find the gentleman and do a nice thing for him.

The level of excitement for these announcements seem to be dwindling. It will probably be another dual core processor with 1 GB of ram aka more of the same.

Avail yourself of a good dictionary, because "many" doesn't mean more than half. You're thinking of "most."

I don't need to read minds, I see homeless people in large numbers every day and I'm guided by experience.

You see there are three types of homeless people in SF:

- ordinary people who are down on their luck. These people tend to get help because there are many services in SF and they tend to leave the ranks of the homeless.

- drug addicts and drunks. Some of these people get help and stop being homeless, but many don't think spending money on anything other than drugs is a good idea. These people tend to come and then go because they have a habit of criminal behavior, including stealing from drug dealers, so it becomes unsafe for them, or they end up in jail.

- the mentally ill. This is largest group because they are hard and expensive to help and government can't/won't help them effectively. There are few options for these people.

Here in the Tenderloin, where Apple has set up shop, you have most of SFs homeless population, due to "warehousing."

If you've actually walk around, it becomes pretty obvious who is mentally ill and not because most non-mentally ill because of their extremely unusual behavior, and you quickly see how many there are.

This place is massive inside. I'm guessing they'll set up demo areas like they did with the Apple Watch. Except this time it will be the new premiere Apple TV and maybe iPad Pro.

Giddy is how I feel for next Thursday. :p

Umm... I can't remember this ever happening. The only "software" features I can think of that were announced late were a) iOS and b) only for newly announced hardware (i.e. Siri for the 4S)

Siri itself was introduced in the Fall event of 2011 after iOS 5 had already been introduced at WWDC. Siri, a major feature, was left out of the initial introduction of iOS 5.

Given that Wednesday's event is so clearly focused on Siri, and given that El Capitan in fact has Siri built in through Spotlight, it's not a leap to expect that conversational Siri can be easily added to OSX at this point.

You could be right on many points, but isn't the event on Wednesday?

The Civic Center in is downtown SF. So unless your apartment sits over any local fast food restaurants or banks

No comment on nutjob's story, but this shows you don't know the area all that well. From the top of my head, I know of three apartment complexes that are approximately one block away from the Civic Center. The one next to the federal building, the one near Van Ness, and of course the one owned by the law school (Hastings). There are likely more (above businesses, etc in Little Saigon and along Market).

All I want is an iPhone the size of an iPod with wicked build quality, great camera and long life battery. I'm tired of the large phones - almost iPad minis in size ha! Sony's compact z5, for example, has a battery last for 2 days, amazing camera, etc.

Actually I never professed to "Know the area all that well". I looked at Google Street View. And nut job's stories have been just that all day, "stories". Completely unbelievable for that matter. Interesting that you decided not to comment on his story which lead up to this whole thing. Dismissing his story and going out of your way to prove me wrong says a whole lot. Good to know he has backup on this forum though. Just sayin'.

It doesn't matter who the "goons" were hired by. Apple's instructions were obviously that they didn't want their event sullied by such people near their venue, even on public footpaths or streets.
You're right, I'm sure Tim Cook gave these special Apple Goons a pep talk before they went there, saying, "Look, I know it's days before the event, but make sure you rough up any homeless people you see, because that will help reinforce our tough image and up our street cred."

Or maybe Apple contracted with some security company with instructions merely to "keep folks from messing with the decorations in the week leading up to the event", and gave them Apple shirts to wear so it'd be evident to police (and/or folks looking to mess with the decorations) why they were there, and the guards took it upon themselves to approach the homeless guy.

If you're hired to "protect this thing right here", and you're standing around all day, you can take the Buckingham Palace guard approach and be quietly hyper vigilant, or you can slack off and maybe get in trouble, or you can try to keep busy and start looking for things that "might be" part of your job - essentially widening the net until you catch something that "needs" doing, so you can report and/or feel like, you've done something. I'd guess these guards fell into the latter category.

You're concerned about the homeless (that's good), and you're assigning motives to Apple. But the two things are not necessarily related. If you get a bad hamburger at McDonalds, its probably not because Ronald McDonald came to your local McD's and gave specific instructions that you should be slighted.

Lol, angry?? No.
Amused by your silly antics?? Slightly.
Sorry for you & more so for those around you?? Definitely!!

Your story is all over the place... you, quite literally, sound psychotic.

One minute: it is standard that bums get beat & nobody but you noticed.
The next minute: if you had taken a video, it would be on the local news!!
Lol, wut?? Do you hear yourself??
Does nobody else life in SF but you?? Had they ALL left their phones at home?? Why did not a single person capture this (as YOU describe it) very newsworthy incident??
Oh yeah... because you're an OBVIOUS liar & the more you try to "clean it up", the nuttier you sound!! =P

Did the 5s include more RAM? Did the 6?

The iPhone 5 that came out in 2012 had 1gb of ram. 3 years later and the phone still has 1 Gb of ram while new phones are pushing 3gb and up. Not sure why the phone still can't even multitask. You cannot stay connected to an irc app in the background. It is almost 2016!
