I ordered on the 8th through apple shortly after the keynote ended. It appears that there is a stockpile somewhere in the US like others have been saying.

Yes, I would agree with you. I ordered right after the Keynote, and mine was just shipped today. Its coming from Memphis, TN and is coming overnight to Boston. While the others have UPS from China, the Fed Ex shipments being sent out today are from the US. Mine didn't ship until today at 10:00 and has already made it to a plane en route to Boston. Good luck!

Same here. I ordered on the 9th through Apple Store and still show "Prepared". I hope it comes Fedex their hub is closer than UPS.

Got an e-mail from Apple at 9:35 central time saying it will be delivered tomorrow by FedEx. The only problem, is when I click on my tracking number it takes me to a page that says "Tracking Number not found."

Anyone having this problem. I figured if it was shipped I would at least see an arrival scan somewhere...

Just got my shipment email. The FedEx release form is perfect because I was probably not going to be home but my neighbor will and he will sign and hold it for me :)

This is one distinct advantage of living in a doorman building in Manhattan, always someone there to sign for parcels and set them at your front door :)

Of course it appears that point is moot in my case. :(

Mine just got shipped. yeah!!

I call UPS this morning and they also told me that Apple is having them hold the phones until the 19th. I should receive mine around 10:30a.m. I don't have a problem with that. I have a problem with being mislead and told originally that I would receive it on the 17th. There is nothing more disappointing. Not to mention the fact that I have a life and planned things around the date. Thank the Lord UPS was honest and told me why the due date changed.

Misled? Apple has said since the beginning that delivery would be the 19th.

A life...planning things around a UPS delivery - for an iPhone? These are some serious issues with priorities.

that just means that the package isn't physically in FEDex's hands yet. Anything you order goes through that stage.

Why would UPS be burdened because they have to deliver all the iPhones on the same day? Do you realize how many packages UPS sends each day?

UPS has lots of packages to deliver? Really? Thanks for the education.

Look, I posed the question because I have had truly terribly experiences with UPS. We are in the middle of a recession. There have been layoffs. I honestly don't know how often UPS is asked by shippers to ensure delivery on a certain day (save express shipments). Presumably the vast majority of packages are delivered within a window of several days. This is a different case. Maybe the rep I spoke with was misinformed, but I her responses didn't inspire confidence that I'll have my iPhone on Friday.

This has been discussed before. This is nothing new for a company to do. Especially Apple. If a company doesn't want something delivered until a specific date then it will be done. Just because the status pages weren't updated until later doesn't mean that it wasn't already planned.

I'm aware that Apple has done this in the past. The rep I spoke to said she had never heard of another company throttling shipments. (If you know of other companies who do this, I'd be interested to know.) And I didn't say I was utterly certain that Apple decided late in the game to delay otherwise ready shipments until the 19th. If we all received notices that the packages would be delivered on the 17th, it stands to reason that either Apple decided to throttle the shipments at a late date or it communicated that decision at a late date. Why else have our shipment statuses been so confusing?

I would suggest that the shipment statuses are just due to UPS' system and processes.

Mine says the exact same as below. Looks like are iPhones are travel mates! I seriously doubt seeing that the phone has been sitting in Hong Kong for hours I'll get it tomorrow despite what the email from Apple said.

Mine UPS tracking says the following:

CHEK LAP KOK,
HK 06/18/2009 1:22 P.M. IMPORT SCAN
SHENZHEN,
CN 06/18/2009 12:50 A.M. DEPARTURE SCAN
SHENZHEN,
CN 06/17/2009 12:12 P.M. ORIGIN SCAN
CN 06/17/2009 4:37 A.M. BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

Also, my apple order status page went from Delivers by June 19th to Delivers by June 23rd??? WTH. Also, Scheduled delivery date on UPS site no longer present. Anyone with similar? Think we got delayed?

That much is obvious. My point is that if this were a regular practice, wouldn't UPS's system account for shipper-requested delay? Instead at one point yesterday I saw "at the request of the receiver this package has been delayed..." Which was of course a lie.

Yeah that's a good question. It would be interesting to see how many companies do this.

there must be a lot of paranoid people out there at this point. The apple store order status is jammed.

Nah, Apple probably just has their order status site on the same Mac Classic server located in Ulan Bator used for all their software updates etc.

I mean after 3 botched launches no one can argue that Apple has any clue how to predict and manage server capacity.

I have a tracking status page! :D

It says that estimated delivery is tomorrow by 3:00 PM. A little later than I expected... I really want to get it early and activate as soon as possible.

i dont even want to talk about how long it took me to update a gen 1 to 3.0 last night...

In the future, don't update then on the day of release.

Save yourself the hassle and wait 24 hours

Yes THANK YOU! It took me several hours, and now its really struggling to keep up. I think it might have been better to keep it at 2. Good thing I have a 3Gs coming tomorrow.

Yah I know, actually this will sort of be my first iPhone.

I got a 3G last year from store on day of launch. But after 5 days no one (ATT or Apple) could get it to activate, so I just gave it all back for a refund since I really needed phone/email access and 5 days was long enough.

So I tried my luck again this year and ordered via apple website a 3gs on the 9th but it still hasnt gone beyond' not yet shipped.'

Obviously there is no way it will get here by tomorrow as the original receipt showed, but even if it had, I knew enough not to try to activate it until some time next week. So I guess the delay in my order is no big deal in the end (btw my 'delivered by' date just changed from the 24th to the 29th, meh).

I usually have good luck with Apple stuff but the iPhone really doesnt seem to like me one bit!
