Apple Delays iPhone 3G S Pre-Orders to Prevent Early Delivery?

I planned a trip and the leave time had now changed 3 times because of this situation. The phone is far to expensive to just leave on the front porch for the weekend. So, yeah. I am planning my trip around when the phone gets here. Crazy me!

The phone would not just be left on your front porch because Apple requires an indirect signature. In other words, you can either just miss the delivery and they will re-attempt, or you can sign the release form and have it left at (1) your back back, (2) somewhere else, or (3) an immediate neighbor.

So yes, planning travel around the delivery of a phone - is...crazy.

Apple did what they had to do to have the phones delivered on Friday - the 19th. As they have been saying since day 1.
 
Anyone else notice that the iPhones coming from UPS weigh .50 kg and the iPhones from FedEx weigh .90 kg? Maybe we're getting a special gift with ours for teasing us with "Prepared for Shipment" until this morning? I kid, I kid. But still, what gives?

Shame, shame on UPS? You mean shame, shame on some poor phone answering employee who wasn't exact on the details of the contract between Apple and UPS?

I heard the packaging of the $99 3G weighs .90 kg! :eek:

Just trying to start a new anxiety thread since the number of tracking number posts are finally declining. I also just heard on the news that there might be a UPS strike! ;)

Same with me. Still in Anchorage since 1:50 pm on 6/17/09. There's also been no scheduled delivery date listed since a few days ago when it was 6/18.
 
Mines still in KY, like many others, since early morning the 17th. Sure hope it gets released soon.

Took me a bit to realize why Apple would put a hold on our iPhones. Its not to be fair to those that are going to wait in line on Friday. Its to get a record number of activations on day-one of the 3Gs. Allowing us to get them delivered to our homes will surely generate WAY more single day sales/activations than were possible at ATT/Apple stores for the 3G(or Edge) iPhones.

Of course we all know AT&T's servers will get crushed by this. So, in addition to a record number of activations in a single day, they'll get press for crushed servers. It would be so much nicer, for us, if they started delivering them yesterday, and let us activate in stages. Oh well, its a business.

Mine weighs 1.0lb (or 0.5kg.) FedEx is shipping it. I don't think there is any special gift...

Black 32GB here, STILL in AK according to UPS. I can only hope that for expediency sake they aren't scanning all the phones, and it's enroute from Kentucky as I type.

*goes back to obsessively checking the tracking page*
 
I'm getting mine via Fedex and it just went back to their warehouse ... wtf :mad:

the 2:48 time is the scan at the fed ex facility at the mephis airport...
 
ugh, i ordered my white 3g s 16gb on june 8th at 1:30pm. my order is still "prepared for shipment" and I haven't received any email stating it has been shipped. it also says...


Ships: Jun 19
Delivers: Jun 22

wtf. anyone else having this problem? im so frustrated!
 
mine was in "prepared for shipment" for a while and early this morning it shipped but it still says "shipping information received" so it has not left apple's warehouse according to that. My friend also ordered a phone and he lives within the tri-state area and his is the same except his left a fed ex facility originating from Middletown, PA mid-day today which is near Harrisburg (about an hour from me). Is it possible it can be picked up and delivered to me tomorrow? It says by 4:30 tomorrow.

I have exactly the same tracking information. Looks like our phones are moving in the same shipment.

Still in Alaska. If mine arrives after the 19th, I better find an Eskimo and sled dogs out front when my doorbell rings.

I bet they already moved and UPS didn't want anyone knowing bc once the phones went beyond the main hubs they would technically be available for 'possible' pick up? Unless the phones will all make a giant move tonight...

Or there is just a whole bunch of Kentuckians running around with new iPhones...

I am out on Long Island and whenever I receive something from UPS, it usually flies into Trenton, NJ, then Farmingville, NY. Soooo....that would be two more stops before tomorrow.
 
I ordered online last June 13. I got a UPS tracking number today Thu 6/18 saying that it shipped Thu 6/18 with a delivery date of Mon 6/22, not Fri 6/19 as I had expected all week long.

Now why didn't they just deliver it yesterday Wed 6/17 so that I will receive it tomorrow Fri 6/19?

I think Apple simply told UPS to hold off all deliveries until Thu 6/18 regardless of whether that would result in delayed deliveries for some people.

Ditto - I sincerely hope someone won't go by this stack tomorrow and say 'wasn't there some sort of weird hold on these things...?'
