Self-interest aside - & I was really looking forward to buying a new Mac with Leopard this June, having decided I'd wait that long after all - if a much-improved Vista SP1 edition now surfaces before Leopard, this could be a major setback to further increases in Mac marketshare.

Will I wait until October? I really don't know. If Vista SP1 comes out before & gets good reviews, I may join that happy camp who have both a Mac & PC. After all, if a company can't deliver a much-anticipated product on time because of a phone I have no interest in whatsoever, well...life's too short & October seems so far away. - Perhaps I need to calm down.

Thanks Apple...

Not people like me who are just interested interested in buying a new Mac have to wait longer because you were incompetant to let us know about a delay sooner.

They have been working on 10.5 for years. I just wish they had the guts to tell us that they have always been behing on Leapord.

Next time I see Steve I'll let him now how disgusted you are that you weren't in the loop.

This is ridiculous. It really isn't that big a deal folks. Leopard will be better because of this move. I welcome that decision.

The iPhone is a big step for Apple. You all seem to forget that a major reason Apple is still in business is the iPod. Apple wants the iPhone to be like that as well, and it will be.

October is only six months away.

And most importantly. Tiger isn't broken. It is still (IMO) the best OS out there aside from some custom Linux action

Most of you want change for the sake of change. If they ship a Leopard box with a piece of crap in it I think you would still embrace. Calm down. Use your computer like you have been for the next 6 months and guess what.... Leopard
Finally.....a voice of reason. I'm excited about Leopard and I'm excited about iPhone and yet I couldn't agree with you more.

You think there will be hardware updates at WWDC?
I think before WWDC for the consumer line... possibly Mac Pro at WWDC. Intel is releasing new mobile and workstation chipsets very soon that will allow Apple to bring out refreshed Macs.

Dude just switch. Leopard is probably going to ship with bugs anyways. Buy a Mac with a stable OS now. Upgrade later.
Why switch to a different OS when the developer indicates that they no longer value that OS? Why would a Windows user switch to Mac OS if Apple is signaling that they're going to dump Mac OS and become a phone and ipod company?

My company has been considering and planning more product releases for Mac OS. This does not give confidence in Apple's commitment to the platform and makes it less likely that we'll continue to develop for that platform.

Its questionable anyway now that Parallels with Coherance mode allows me to run a Windows program almost transparently in Mac OS. I can just develop software for Windows and forget the Mac.

Wow... this sucks ass.

Hopefully apple will figure out some way to cheer us up by offering new macs at WWDC with free leopard upgrades when it ships.

Explains one thing

Well at least we know now why they gave us one Dual Quad Core. Quite shameful really.

Guess they thought a "new" Mac Pro would help to keep people happy. If only the could be honest and not blame the iPhone.

Wow. I have never seen such crying in my life over a silly OS. I'll admit it, I love Mac OS X almost as much as life itself, but you don't see me crying and whining like a baby because I found out it'll be delayed for a few months. The iPhone is much more important to Apple than a new OS, sorry for those of you who think otherwise. Everyone, let's just take a chill pill and relax. Leopard is going to be awesome and in the grand scheme of things, 4 months won't make much of a difference and October will be here before you know it. If your life truly revolves so much around the release of a computer operating system, then perhaps you should see a psychologist about that.

And, let's make sure there are no hypocrites here. Everyone that have MS crap about Vista being delayed should now do the same for Apple.
You must be kidding me.....

Vista was released *years* beyond the original projected release date and the final product was much less than originally advertised.

I understand that we're talking about something that is not out yet but I have every bit of confidence that Leopard will be everything it is advertised to be an *more*.

This sucks. Honestly.

It appears that Apple may really have not been working on Leopard in the past while. I thought something was fishy when there was very little updates shown in the developer previews (must be internal builds, thought I (probably still was, really, but just not covering the full extent of what I hoped)).

However, I suppose there is one good thing: October. October is a much more absolute timeframe than "Spring". Goes from three months, to one month.

But, I'm starting to think Apple is the next Microsoft... when I was dissatisfied with Microsoft I started writing my own OS, then I found Mac. I guess I should go find that code again... :D

I agree, and that is the frustrating point (I think why this thread is so active). Apple has a history of dropping the ball at the wrong moment. Right when they have a chance to knock Vista by offering a new release and stealing Vista's hype, they choose to make a telephone.

OMG  I do NOT beleive this! This is the most f$#%cked up news of 2007! Delay Leopard in order to develop a f#^@$$%#ing cell phone    Brilliant, Apple. Just totally f@#%@ing brilliant.

Dude, I'm gettin a Dell. Vista is already out.

I'm totally with you, up to the "brilliant" part of your comment.

I'm still on a PC at the moment this is a big blow for me, I was planning to buy a Mac in June.

Wouldn't mind some advice on what to do. I wish Apple would let us know if Hardware updates are in June or not, that why I can feel "safe" about buying a Mac now.

Of course I am "safe" to buy a Mac now but if I buy one now and say a few weeks later a better model comes out for the same price I would of rather waited for the better model :(.

I just read 16 pages of WHINING!

Consider this. Apple has realized the demand for iPhone (ATN that happens to have a phone app that runs on it) is exceeding estimates and they will need time to ramp up the entire Apple Corporation to deal with it.

10.4.9.x is a perfectly fine OS for any current or planned hardware.

OSX 10.5 in October 2007? You know what this means? They will be able to ship new hardware, with new chips, with new motherboards, with a new OS, for MACS, their primary product focus.

Apple TV is also OSX, remember? Apple TV has one or more additional products planned. That will certainly consume the fulfillment department's time as well.

This may be the first time in Apple history where sales, product development and innovations exceed the capacity of the fulfillment department of Apple!

Rocketman

I love how people think the Apple site was hacked. It's been updated all over the site. Just check the "Leopard" preview page - Spring 2007 has miraculously become "October 2007".

Did that page get hacked too??....
Yeah I know.. I am saying it as a few posts back thats what everyone was saying.. its called sarcasm.

so im guessing the bootcamp is extened too? also maybe apple should make there beta like windows and open to the public and make sure it really helps relase on tiime

The Window of opportunity that Vista presents will exists well into 2008. Also Leopard is in no way a critical need to pull folks away from getting into Vista.

i am definently with you on this one. im in the same situation. There better be hardware updates at WWDC or before :)

By the way, I don't know why so many people are complaining. Tiger is still two steps ahead of Vista and easily the most advanced consumer-oriented OS in the world. Leopard will just make OS X harder to catch. Be happy with what you have.

Hell yes I am with you there, people bitch to much. Like everyone I would of liked to see 10.5 soon, but the best things are worth waiting for. Patience is a virtue. I would rather them get it right that push something out that isn't ready.

Peace

Secret Features!?

All I have to say is that these Secret Features better be awesome because what Apple has announced so far is just a MINOR upgrade that SHOULD BE FREE!

And I do NOT consider integrating iLife 07/08 into the OS a major feature...

i am angry

i know i know why vista was late

that is because they pull people to make zune

zune is failure

i guess iphone too

nokia, samsung not sitting around idle

mixing ipod with phone and organiser

they want us to use charger every day?

miss that all important phone call because you want to listen to song?
