Awww. Thats really disappointing. Although I was expecting it in June, a part of me felt it wouldn't be ready till after spring. At least ill feel better knowing that when we finally get Leopard it will be a super solid release. ...Thats one good way of looking at it I guess. Ill need to put off my purchase for a new mac for a little while longer now. :(

I'm still on a PC at the moment this is a big blow for me, I was planning to buy a Mac in June.

Wouldn't mind some advice on what to do. I wish Apple would let us know if Hardware updates are in June or not, that why I can feel "safe" about buying a Mac now.
It is likely we will see hardware updates soon give what Intel is about to come out with. It is less likely that Apple will delay hardware to align it with Leopard.

If you need / want a Mac now buy it now. It will be a good system, the best you can buy at the moment. It will run Leopard just fine.

Why switch to a different OS when the developer indicates that they no longer value that OS? Why would a Windows user switch to Mac OS if Apple is signaling that they're going to dump Mac OS and become a phone and ipod company?

My company has been considering and planning more product releases for Mac OS. This does not give confidence in Apple's commitment to the platform and makes it less likely that we'll continue to develop for that platform.

Its questionable anyway now that Parallels with Coherance mode allows me to run a Windows program almost transparently in Mac OS. I can just develop software for Windows and forget the Mac.

Please explain how a 4 month delay equals Apple not caring about OS X and dumping it. Please explain your logic here or lack thereof...I can't wait to hear this. I don't remembering anyone saying MS didn't care about windows anymore even though it was delayed over and over again!

Apple has signaled that they're going to dump Mac OS X only in your fevered imagination.

i know i know why vista was late

that is because they pull people to make zune

zune is failure

i guess iphone too

nokia, samsung not sitting around idle

mixing ipod with phone and organiser

they want us to use charger every day?

miss that all important phone call because you want to listen to song?

Why you write that way?:)

I understand that, but like you said, if updates are due "soon" (within a month or two) I would rather wait for the updated hardware. I am in need of a new computer, I can wait a couple of weeks/months but October is a little too far for me.

So, I hope some new models come out May/June.

So all of the people who said that Apple was taking resources from it's computer business were right. Sorry Apple but this SUCKS.
Apple is just becoming a trendy yuppie gadget maker. :( :apple:

The Window of opportunity the Vista presents will exists well into 2008. Also Leopard is in no way a critical need to pull folks away from getting into Vista.

I agree the window is not closed, but Stevie has put so much emphasis in his keynotes about when Vista would drop and how Leopard would drop right after without delays, it's a bad time to decide to delay the core product in order to make the next Newton.

Thanks Apple...

Not people like me who are just interested interested in buying a new Mac have to wait longer because you were incompetant to let us know about a delay sooner.

They have been working on 10.5 for years. I just wish they had the guts to tell us that they have always been behing on Leapord.

Working on 10.5 for years? You must be confusing leopard with Vista. How long do you think it takes to code an OS, like a few weeks? Heck, it takes 1-2 years to release some A list games and you think an OS should be faster? Tiger was only released like maybe 2yrs ago? I'm disappointed too, but dude you can still buy a shinny new mac, that kicks booty.

?

i can definitely understand both sides on this one but i think the real crime is in the posturing apple is doing when comparing themselves to microsoft. Delaying a product is no huge deal but is this developing to be a trend??? Also, this would be no big deal if Steve/Apple didn't constantly boast how much better Apple is at software than MS. This will strengthen MS when Apple has started the OS wars. Also, no matter what kind of technology is packed into their machines they have a very stale product mix right now. Other than the new ?tv, which is a great device. Apple is vulnerable right now and look for other companies to take advantage of this.

Whoah there, Captain Logic! How does a product delay indicate a lack of value? There are two BRAND NEW OS X products added to the mix already, with a good chance of more to come. These products both contain features that will hit the Mac line when Leopard ships, a whopping three to four months late. When Adobe dragged its feet on CS3, did that mean it no longer valued it?

Well with stunning rationalizations like that, I can't imagine the products are all that well thought-out anyway. Someone else will just have to fill the hole in our lives left by your product's departure.

Hmm, I can see both sides as a new Mac user.

I can see why people would think they are neglecting the Mac based on this but the PR mess that would happen if the iPhone was delayed would be huge. The wow factor for the iPhone is huge, and if they were to delay it to October.. that sorta goes away.

This just makes it easier for me to wait for the iMac redesign.

Ah but the delay is to help make it NOT the next Newton. All new products have risk and Apple is doing the right thing to reduce that risk and give the product the best chance at a good start.

This backs up my fears that Apple are seriously neglecting the computer side of their business.
Can't read this whole thread, but my thoughts were: if Steve Jobs was dead I'd say he must be spinning in his grave. Fact is, he's still at the helm.

I was thinking the same thing when I read his post... :)

How can we write Mr. Jobs a letter and let him know how we feel?
I don't like what he's doing - giving that stupid iPhone all of the company's attention and neglecting the Mac business.

iPhone new Ipod

They are most likely looking at the iPhone as the new iPod and look, 100 million sold. If that happens with the iPhone, than that would be 100 million iPhones and 200 million iPods, and all the while still selling more iPods, more iMacs, and their various other products. This is a smart move, even if the people don't like it. I'm sure apple has a room on campus where they have 100 people with varying degrees in economics, politics, busness, engineering, etc. That came up with this, (I hope to be one in a few years, after school). Tiger is still the most advance operating system out. I'm still going to buy a new mac when Leopard comes out whether thats June or October and I plan on buying a iPhone.

You think there will be hardware updates at WWDC even though leopard wont be pre-installed?
Probably. No reason to hold back new hardware just because of an OS. Tiger still works fine, and will work fine even after Leopard is released. And besides, now that the release date has been announced, doesn't Apple usually offer a free OS upgrade to those who buy new hardware now?

it's not tragedy!!! everyone is disapointed but we will wait anyway:rolleyes: but hardware upgrades better be impressive!!!!:D I could swallow minor upgrade with 10.5 but whithout its completly different story..........

The point of a corporation is to make as much money as possible. Obviously, people will pay top dollar for a high end portable, so it only makes sense for Apple to try to get some market share to make more money.
