Bloody iPhone...

I could care less about this little "adult toy," which now seems to be all the rage. Oh, how I miss the pre-iPod days when Apple actually made innovative computers and put all of its resources into that alone. :(

What is going on here ?

Not buying a new mac because an upcoming new version of an already superrior OS has been delayed ? :

For a lot of us, it's really not about Leopard...

This news pissed off those of us who have been wise with our money, and have waited patiently for a chance to buy a new Mac.

Who wants to buy a Mac new today if they are going to release Santa Rosa in 8 weeks??? Problem is, now we are really in the dark about the release of the product line itself.

It's about new hardware... New Chips... New designs... and hey, a new OS X to boot.

What does Jobs think... that I am going to save my tax return for six months and not take on any new creative work this Summer???

If he doesn't care, that's the problem!!! How about buy a new Mac today and get Leopard free... something...

and another thing...

.

I dumped Cingular (AT&T) as soon as I got the chance. Fewest dropped calls my ass.

It's only the fewest dropped calls because you can't get service and reception in the first place!!!

Hey... I'll wait until the iphone is $399 with a Verizon contract and comes in an 80 gig version.:) Look at the Razor... It'll happen...

i'm just dissapointed because this summer i'm gona end up being out a few hundred bucks because of having to upgrade to 10.5 & the new iLife. It sucks, not gona lie, i was hoping to get new hardware, new os, and new ilife. Now i get old os, old ilife, and newer hardware. For some reason, it just doesn't seem that appealing to me now buying a new macbook...i was hoping for new hardware in the macbook only to boot it and be like...WOW new OS is freak'n awesome! but now i'm gona have to buy it. sad that a 2 years have passed and when i buy a new machine, the only big change will be i can run winblows stuff, which i need for school, and a camera.:(

Considering the HYPE the iPhone has created I can totally understand their position.
We can now all enjoy the spring and summer without the distractions of Leopards new features keeping us glued to our Macs.

2-this is probably a good indicator that we won't get much in the way of new harware until leopard ships (which is after the timeframe I have to buy a comp for college, real cute apple)

Amen! I am praying that the Macbooks are updated sometime this summer so I can at least get the new hardware before school starts in the fall, if not the new operating system.

Money is going to be tight in October and I might hold off on getting Leopard until Christmas.

Well I think this shows where Apple's priorities are.

It certainly does - just glad I recently put off purchasing a new Macbook Pro. Now I have time until October to make up my mind whether I will continue to buy computers from a company that turned from a computer maker into a consumer electronics manufacturer.

I personally couldn't care less about the iPhone - it won't be available in Europe until mid 2008 and would force me to sign a 2-year contract with a carrier I don't like and whose rates I'm not willing to pay for.

Wow, this is horrible news... :( Very sad, indeed! At least it will be ready and stable, though. But still... bwah!

Okay so where is iLife '07? We're not waiting until October for that, are we? By then it might as well be called iLife '08.

Although I think the iPhone is gonna be a great product, I don't think it's gonna make Apple into a new and improved company. It's really expensive, and I don't think it'll be mainstream so quickly.

We should file a class action law suit for misleading the mac community.

January 2007,

"The first 30 years were just the beginning." -Apple.com/Macworld 2007

"This will be the year of Mac." Steve Jobs at Macworld 2007

What do we have to show for these 2 statements? Not enough to account for those 2 statements.

Ok, maybe not sue, but still frustrating.

Let's just hope they are just a little bit embarrassed by this, and makes it up to us with something sweet at NAB. :)
It's just two days away, so they have a good opportunity to make this "go away", as in appeasing the most outraged people here. You know, this isn't THAT big a deal when it comes down to it, and the people that gets most upset over this, is probably the ones most easily distracted by some shiny new toy presented at NAB. :p
This was Apple removing the pacifier, at Sunday they'll hand them a new doll or something.

..and hopefully a cool new FCS, and I want Logic to, now that they offended me in this way! :p

EVERYONE QUIT WHINING!

Personally, I havent been all that excited about Leopard, it hasnt had that "Killer Feature" like expose or dashboard. Heres to hoping the wait is worth it, and brings us a REALLY cool top-secret featureset that blows our minds away.

There is no 'cool top-secret featureset'! Very typical of SJ to overhype and underdeliver. Wake up fool:)

As a recent convert to the Mac, I'd been used to delays in Windows OS upgrades, indeed several years between upgrades. Given the stability of OS X 'Tiger' over any Windows release I've had, whilst I'm disappointed not to see 'Leopard' come in on time, I can live with it for now as I too would rather have a fully working/stable product over a buggy product. How much negative PR would that generate to the glee of Microsoft if the latter happened? However, it will more than likely delay my MacBook or MacBook Pro purchase until later in the year, unless the next iteration of both has that 'wow' factor that makes me want to buy one there and then. We'll see.

The IPhone looks good, but I have a phone to make calls, send texts, etc., not to have OS X in my pocket. I would only have one if it came free with a mobile contract as you can bet that dollars with translate 1:1 into pounds yet again when it reaches this side of the pond! Also, wheres the 3G system? Seems like a bit of an omission to me for Europe at least. Style and function it may have, but it won't be going in my pocket for a long time I suspect.

As a fair number have already said, Apple should have recruited a load more software engineers to allow both the IPhone and OS X 'Leopard' developments to continue unhindered. Now that's something they can be truly criticised for. Think they dropped the ball on that one! :(

2-this is probably a good indicator that we won't get much in the way of new harware until leopard ships (which is after the timeframe I have to buy a comp for college, real cute apple)
Yeah that's my primary worry too. :(
3-Vista will be able to get a service pack out (if needed and it prolly well) and get a nice foothold without any competition from Leopard
Bingo! Getting Leopard released quickly after Vista was necessary to grab the market by the... well, you know. By the time it comes out, a huge percentage of people will have already bought Vista and it'll be too late. Ah well.

Wow, the negative/positive ratio on this thread is pretty enormous, as is the number voting and number of posts in the thread. There have certainly been more of all of those, but not that I can remember without some event that people knew was coming.

It's amazing how fast I have gone from thinking apple is humming along nicely to thinking that it's spread too thin and it shows.

Apple what da - i would use expletives but so many of you splendidly expressed your feelings for me.

Does apple want us to think differently about the "non computer" devices that they're focusing on? Perhaps we should think of them as pac man that are insanely great at eating apple computers and software.

When the iPhone was first announced - it, along with the iPod and :apple: TV, pac man chomped the word "Computer" from Apple's name. Today Apple anounced that the iPhone took another huge bite so will they change their logo with a bite out of the left side of the :apple:. A logo that we the faithful have associated with great computers will eventually be eaten down to a skimpy core.

The solution to the problem is to HIRE more people. Come on you guys, you're making oodles of money! HIRE more people! Especially now when your so poised to make solid lasting in roads in the computer industry.

In summary, don't let your ravenous pac man spawn eat their mother!

Whatever, i think its good news. Feature complete at month 6 and 4 months of debugging and testing should make for the most stable/performant release of OS X...

As a developer, its good news. 4 months isn't that big of a deal, we've already been waiting 24+ months... If apple is smart, they might start packaging free upgrade coupons with systems to halt any sales losses....

Piss and Moan... Piss and Moan...

It just cracks me up how many people feel so devastated that Leopard is delayed by a whole 4 months... "Oh my God... They don't care about us computer users any more!!!"... "They're going to give up on Macs and just make iPods and iPhones...". Jeez. Give me a break.

As many have stated, it pales in comparison to Vista's 4 year delays (with feature chops)... And in all actuality, Vista is still delayed in HUGE segments. Look at how many government offices, corporations and large educational institutions are telling employees that they are "NOT to put Vista on ANY machines on the network, WHATSOEVER!!!".

And just how many of the same type of places (and they do exist) do you think will be ordering their people not to upgrade to Leopard. Unless something still shows up as a serious flaw right away (unlike the whole Vista OS according to many) you'll see a smooth upgrade path with a much larger percentage of large scale installations jumping right in. Perhaps not on day 1 (watching for immediate bugs), but the percentage of the base that waits for 10.5.1 will be much smaller than the percentage of the base waiting on Vista SP1 (or SP2), I'm sure.

Side note... Have you seen what they're on about at minimsft lately?

A snippet:
We did ship Vista, right? Do you think the world knows about it? Has Microsoft done a good job of owning the message about Vista? I don't think so. ........ What's our campaign slogan, "Microsoft Windows Vista. Hey, you're going to end up with it anyway."

That doesn't really work for programming teams. It isn't like an assembly line of workers that just screw nuts and bolts all day long...

Before you all get too upset consider this ; iphone is the new mac!.

I can understand the delay - in 6 months time Apple will be a far stronger, far superior company because of iphone.

I know it's a bummer when your excited and waiting for something but still it means that iphone will be a spectacular entrance without losing the limelight to Leopard.

A stronger Apple ultimately means a stronger leopard - and beyond.

You know in the world of hi-tech - nothing is just that simple.

We should be glad that Steve is still acting like 'the pirate' of silicon valley.

I say - 'it's ok, the sun will rise tomorrow, M$ still sucks, Apple is still cool'

Chill, relax, enjoy!! :)
