I agree...Not sure why people on here are now 'liking' the Notch. I swear if any other company had a the Notch, they'd say it's the ugliest thing ever.
It isn't the ugliest thing ever when the contents of the "ears" are simply white text on a solid black background... but pretty much anything else is indeed pretty odd looking.

The problems with an iPad with a notch are multitude, though: If they go with an LED, I have to believe that it wouldn't be nearly as good at hiding inside of a "black" background. If they do try to hide in that fashion, it will be a lot more wasted screen space. If they try to make the bezel as thin as they did with the iPX, the chances of fingers accidentally encroaching into the interface and causing unintended presses on screen elements increase quite a bit. (That's already been an annoyance for me, on my iPX.)

Let's just hope Apple pays attention to the feedback on the iPX, eh?

With the ipad pro we will get faceId vers 2 working on landscape and more faces for the ipad

Sadly it seems like the notch is here to stay, and a visual staple in the Apple name. It won't look as bad on the iPad though, it will have less visual weight.

Gonna need more than one ID for family.

Hah so with this.. I know there was a thought that the iPhone X only allows one face for Face ID because recognition would be slow otherwise... but that's what users are for. You have multiple users and then one face per user. Users might make more sense on iPads than iPhones, but really that's an easy way to make Face ID not slow and still allow multiple logins.

I think anyone could guess or predict that a new iPad Pro would take the design cues and technologies of the X and put it into that form factor. I’m perfectly happy with my iPad Mini 4, though. But if they updated the iPhone SE and the iPad Mini to use the same tech of the X I would buy both.

I expected these features to land on the 10.5" iPad Pro first so that is my guess on what we will see. They might put them on the 9.7, as well, but I could see the 12.9 getting it last if there are supply constraints.

Here we go again......Apple has run out of innovation , so just produce a bigger version of the latest product . Apple has definelty lost there way after Steve”s passing
Wut? iPad already exists. If FaceID is the future it only makes sense to bring it to other products.

Can't wait, this is exactly what I want for the iPad in 2018. Looking forward to the redesign and no home button.

I’ve been wondering for a while about how a redesign would look. Been about 5 years since we first got the designs with chamfered edges. Curious if this would finally move away from that.

I am surprised they did the phone before they did the iPad. I could have seen them getting this tech into the iPad with a higher price point last year and make a huge deal about making it even smaller and faster. This would have made more sense. I suppose they wanted it on the flag **** product as fast as possible

While I echo the wishes of a few here that it has an OLED screen, that would push the price to LOL levels. An OLED of that size/custom calibration would probably push the price well into the Macbook Pro price levels.

Damn, it would be pretty, though lol.

Very true.

A case of The Emperor's New Clothes.

Everybody cheered as the X was unveiled. 'It's beautiful. A full screen and no bezels. We salute you Apple' they sang.

A little boy at the back of the showroom broke the silence when he asked his Father 'Daddy. Why has the new phone got a massive notch and a full bezel encroaching into the screen estate? And why is it so expensive amd not cheaper when the competition have done the same thing a year ago and a lot better?'

The things kids say!

Moral: Sometimes it's best not to worry oneself about such petty details and just pay the nice man behind the desk.

Can't wait for it to be another £200 more than the Pro model that already exists now, rather than just replacing it at the same massive RRP.

100% this. It's going to be in the phone, tablet, laptop, and pc eventually.

This is true. Otherwise, you're going to be stuck with one Face and x number of passcodes. Quite inelegant.

Seems trivial to just rotate the data 90 degrees... Only "issue" would be the person would have to shift their face to the left or right.
Trivial? If trivial, wouldn't it be possible now? If it was possible why would a person need to shift their face left or right? Face ID reads off angle fairly well. The iPad will be less than 2ft from the face, the angle won't be that great.

Did you see the last quarter reports. Apple is the most profitable company in the history of the world. They make amazing products that their customer love. Your doom and gloom nonsense is old, tired and totally discredited by facts. Maybe try a nice Samsung group, you might be happier. Good luck.

No home button on iPhone -- not a big deal. Small phone; easy to swipe up.

But I think we can all agree that swiping up will be a little more difficult with an iPad. I hope that you don't have to swipe up a farther distance due to the bigger screen. I should still be able to do with with my thumb alone, without having to move my entire arm.
