I hate the look of the new Macbook. It looks just like a PC in my opinion and I agree with leek. above on his example. I don't buy a computer based on looks though for the most part (I paid the black tax, but the additional cost wasn't a big deal to me). Just looks cheap to me. I know it is built pretty well because I have played with it for a few hours (friend has one), but still wasn't impressed. Apple didn't do well with the design at all in my opinion. The above poster said the new one looks more serious. I think it looks like a clone of a Toshiba like someone else said.

I can't wait until January for my new Macbook Pro (even though I don't like the look). Time to get a nice screen which ALL regular Macbooks lack.

Have you seen the new Voodoo laptops??
So sexy. If I was spending in the pro range I would opt for that for sure, it makes the macbook/pro look like stale bread in comparison.

Wow. I am loving that. If only it ran OSX.

I would agree with those to a certain extent that the new macbooks/pros looks a little like PC laptops e.g. toshiba

I think however, they look like a more expensive/luxury version of those same PC laptops in large part to the aluminium.

Ultimately, Apple has been pushing the design envelope for the past few years and the current design is proof that design wise, they have stalled. It's impossible to surpass perfection when you've already hit perfection if that makes any sense.

another thing..I believe if Apple had come out with these designs before the white and all aluminium models, Apple wouldn't be as iconic. Till today, people always associate Apple with white. it's just class.

the white macbooks aren't ugly. They looked great to me actually, it was just the build quality like cracked palmrest that could have been improved.

Its a matter of taste, bitching about it is worthless. If it sells then they are gonna keep with the current look.

Your opinion < popular opinion

i still dont think the new models look like these hp's and toshibas like you guys say.......unless your looking at it from like, 30 feet away.

The colors they used is a PC laptop profile is what everyone is trying to point out. Before it was unique, now it's tacky and getting to the point where it is trite. We aren't saying they are exact replicas...

No matter what they do they'll sell, it's Apple.

I really like the look of the currrent iMacs.
It just looks great.

However, it doesn't translate well on the new laptops.

I hate that the keys are black. They should be white-ish (like the keyboards for the desktop macs).

I think the new design looks better on the 13" MacBook than on the larger MacBook Pro....IDK maybe its just me but I just think it looks fantastic on the 13" and not so fantastic on the 15"

I agree. That's a very nice design. This is where Apple should have been going.

Well if you look at the specs of that thing it is worse then the old white MBs. So yes it might look good but in terms of performance it is not that hot. Not to mention expensive.

I was just looking at it from a design POV. Apple should be able to crank out something that looks that good with much better specs. That's what they're supposed to do best. Now- we have this weird two-tone bubble looking thing that at least in the case of the MBP, is heavier than the previous model. That's going backward, IMO.

i think the laptops will look better in person just like the air. the pictures on apple's website are DISGUSTING. they look like cheap mockups someone did on these forums.

Yeah the online photos dont really do them justice... unlike with the old macbooks where they made them look if anything better...

They already did it in January with MacBook Air. This new black/silver direction is hideous.
The MBA is the best looking laptop Apple has ever made (IMO). I was really wishing that the Alum MacBook would look exactly like the Air but just fatter with more ports.

I know! On Veterans Day I walked into my local Apple Store for the first time in a year to take a look at the MB and it was sooooo awesome!:D It is much smaller than I imagined... and thinner! The MBA is good, but it isn't as thin as I thought (First time seeing in person). But how shiny the MB was... OMGosh....

These new laptops look like the TiBooks. Those were short lived and rightfully so. They were also a transitional design that reeked of poor design choices.

I actually like the black bezel

Not a big fan of the black keys, although, they are easier to read at night versus my old MBP. The backlight works real well with the black keys, so I guess Apple chose to go with function over form this time.

I ordered one last night online. When it comes in I will post side-by-side pics with my alum macbook. A friend said he could fix that little windoze problem on the voodoo for me.

I get that everyone is a fan of the white...but I personally love the aluminum. Shows a TON less dirt, won't be changing colors after a certain amount of time, doesn't look like a toy, etc.

I mean, I was all set to get a WhiteBook a few months back until I heard about the possible refresh. So I waited...just hoping it wouldn't be plastic anymore. I'm VERY happy that it isn't.

Sure...the black bezel, if it were just screen all the way to the edge, that would be ideal...maybe even aluminum around the screen...but it's not all bad. Sure, I'd have appreciated a matte screen...but my last laptop that i had for 3 years had a glossy, so it's not like I really notice the difference. The only other complaint I have is that the feet don't grip tables as well as I thought they should...lol. It's bad when you have to look to the feet gripping the tables to find flaws in a design.

Other than that, i really don't have any issues w/ the design. They did a good job IMO. The rigidity of the chassis is phenomenal and I'm a sucker for good build quality. That is number one in my requirements, so all in all, it was a good 1900 bucks spent (got a couple display adapters and an extra AC adapter as well, along with the 4gb upgrade on the 2.4 version).

I think the new MacBooks are the best design Apple has ever made.

The old Macbooks reminds me of Nintendo DS now, and I dont want to be reminded of that with such an exclusive product as a MacBook.

However I will say that I think the new MacBook would have been prettier with a white keyboard and white edge around the screen. It's a bit wierd that the logo is still white but the keyboard isnt. It's like they're melting the white and black models together.

As someone else mentioned, the black edge around the screen is very nice when watching movies in a dimly lit room. You don't see anything but the action.

White keys would be...well.....uh...just plain silly on aluminum.
