Yes, some just vote positive to piss off the emos here.

I still don't understand why some people are so over sensitive about someone they did not know personaly, did not know if he was a great or an awful person. Just because he had some relation with Apple Inc?

Many others die each day/hour/minute so get over it; it's just life.

Some people are more capable of empathy, judging them doesn't make life any easier. Move on.

Dear Jerry,
Thanks for your time with us. If it weren't for the believers in the late 90s Apple wouldn't be quite what it is today. R.I.P.

Yes, some just vote positive to piss off the emos here.

I don't think it's their fault that people rage over the most insignificant of things? The trouble with those who cry over something as minuscule as a cheap voting system have nothing better to do in life than complain about such things. I will vote positive on this just to press their buttons.

However, aside from that, it is a solemn moment indeed when another human life does pass on, so I will give my condolences to the bereaved and move on, as most humanity should do.

Two comments,
1. Why are people rating a story about someone dying positive?
2. Anyone else find it ironic that Apple honors the death of someone on their board of directors, whose job is to make as much money for Apple and their shareholders as possible, by taking all the products that they sell off of their front page? I think it's a nice sentiment, but rather odd.

RIP Mr. York. My thoughts and prayers go out for you and your family during this time of sadness.

Thanks for establishing a corporate climate that's condusive for such public mournings. Everyone says Apple is too insular and protective of their devices, software, whathaveyou, but this has an unforeseen consequence: a feeling of closeness. :apple:

Personally, I would rate it positive because I'm impressed with how Apple is honoring his service to the company.

This is why I rated it positive.... that's kind of why I don't see a real good reason for a binary reaction to this story though. It's way too easy to misconstrue the response and think "oh, you're happy he died then!?!/?backslash" if you rate positive or "Why are you giving Apple a hard time for honoring their fallen?!?!one" if you rate negative.

I have to say removing their products from the front page and putting up Jobs' quote about Mr. York with his picture was a classy move. Most other companies would have just issued a press release.

I really don't think we should dedicate this thread into analysing positive/negative votes. but lets just agree that people have different perceptions about death. So clicking positive does NOT mean that people are happy he has passed away. It may signify that they are happy his suffereing has ended.
Or some people just vote positive to the article being news worthy. not that the content was a positive content.

Life is short and death is sudden, be happy while you can and make others happy.

Sad news indeed, but quite a guy.

If my sums are correct, he joined Apple at age 59 and stuck with it for a riveting 13 years. Age 59 - that's when most are deaming of early retirement. Killing time by pottering around with a car, a boat or a golf course. But this guy set off on another career! Quite an impressive one at that. I should be so lucky.

Trained as an engineer too. Kudos.

I voted positive!

People that are screaming about the positive votes need to relax.

I've always felt that the positive button (and the facebook 'like' button) were to represent that the story was news worthy. News isn't always good, but lots of the time it needs to be reported.

It allows the MacRumors editors to know if they should post similar stories in the future, not that the news itself is positive.

I voted positive for Apple dedicating their main page to him. It's not an evil vote and just like sarcasm is hard to read online, so are peoples intentions.

Thanx Jerry!!!!

It took guts to join the board during the lowest point in the companies history.

Right when it looked like the "ship" was about to go on the rocks your strong hand on the tiller helped keep the worst from happening.

I am glad you got to live thru the fantastic turnaround over the last decade.

Thank you and I hope you can feel the appreciation wherever you may be......

I think this is, (as was mentioned on the previous thread,) that voting either way may be a misunderstanding of intention

In that instance, a thumbs up could have been to signify that they were glad he was ok at the time, whilst a down could signify sadness that he was ill.

In this instance, a thumbs up may well signify that relief that someone has ended their suffering and has passed onto a happier and calmer place. Cerebral Haemorrhage is not a nice thing to endure for any length of time. RIP.

Dont try to double guess meanings which possible weren't meant...

Chill out...
Very well said, there is no right or wrong way to vote on this, if he had not died we still would be have had massive damage to the brain depending where it took place and no real quality of life, so depending on how you look at this it was a good thing that he did not linger, I have seen plenty of patients linger after a cerebral hemorrhage and its no picnic for the family or them. Something that would kill a person sudden like that, would have left massive damage to the brain, and I for one would want to be put out if I was left as I have seen so many patients. :(

So chill out no pun intended

I have to say removing their products from the front page and putting up Jobs' quote about Mr. York with his picture was a classy move. Most other companies would have just issued a press release.

Good or bad, Apple is truly not just another company. Maybe that why we keep coming back to it, I think if Bill Gates died today MS would not do this.

Lets not forget Apple is a company, but there is something to be said about how it acts from time to time, makes me feel good owning products they make.

I didn't know him so I guess all I can say is; I hope he had a good run.

You bet he had a good run! I am sure the viewing and service will be a Who's Who of Corporate America. Oh the side conversations that will be told at this one.

Nice front page tribute

It is a shame to lose part of the Apple family, but I always pride Apple when they take a step away from the necessary front-page marketing and acknowledge a significant loss or moment in history.

I was touched when they acknowledged Rosa Park's passing on their front page, and I salute them for taking some time away from the iPad to say goodbye to Jerry.

Nice touch guys,
-Tark
