There is no sapphire crystal display from 3rd generation.
What are you on about? It clearly has “sapphire crystal” right on the backs of both series 4 and series 5 Stainless case watches.

I guess there were too many people wanting to pay extra for a watch that's outdated in a year.

They CLEARLY differentiate between the CASE BACK and the CRYSTAL. “Crystal” is a specific watch part. The Case is stainless with a ceramic back, and the CRYSTAL is sapphire. Why are you doubling down on your incorrect statement?

I've been wearing my S3 White Ceramic all day every day since launch. The only people I've bumped into that even knew what it was were Apple Store employees, and I've only ever had one person "notice" it in public and say "weird I didn't know they came in that color". Never seen another one in the wild.

Plenty of people know what it is, but aren't going to be bothered saying anything about it. It's been around for a while.

I will also mention that the sapphire crystals on all my stainless apple watches (0-1-2-3-4-5) have all been completely scratch-free, which I can’t say for any of my three Omega Seamasters, which also have sapphire crystals.

Nope, only back is sapphire crystal. The displays are identical in all editions.
Oh for goodness sake you are WRONG. stop spreading false information.
I think that all of us who actually have a series 5,4 etc stainless steel model are perfectly aware that the DISPLAY is a sapphire crystal one.
this is a pointless debate as we know what’s on our watches now.

the quite valid question is... why now do they not specifically Mention the display glass.
I for one would not consider paying the huge additional amount for the SS model unless that included the same sapphire display as the series 4 and 5 does.
