People are simply saying they don't like the kiddy colors on the new iMacs and would prefer something more subtle and attractive.
Then don’t buy a new iMac. Or, you know, buy the silver one which is the same silver as the previous one and all the previous ones back to when they were white.

Either way that seems unrelated to this: the “consumer” iMac has never come in space gray.

If you like the space gray colour on mice/keyboards and don’t have one/enough JUST BUY ONE, they’re literally still selling them.

No one said people are wrong for liking colours. We said it’s a bit ridiculous to be making statements like it’s the opening session at The Hague for crimes against dark gray lovers.

edit: fixed typo

That's obviously not what anyone said. You're not arguing in good faith and not being honest. Those of us who don't like the kiddy colors would like an extra option or two.

You, on the other hand, have no objections to the new colors. Enjoy your aesthetic preference.

so the same bog standard silver that the consumer iMac has had for over a decade is a “kiddy colour”?

The m1 iMacs have a laundry list of issues I’d be worried about before even contemplating colours.

if I were to buy one I’d probably choose silver.

what’s a clown got to do with it?

“would like an extra option or two” How could this possibly be unclear?

Apple went all-in on very bright candy colors with a white bezel. A color or two in a more understated color palette would be appreciated. The new choices don't have to be 100% in one direction.

Well you said you don’t like the colours, and I said there’s silver. How is that not an extra option?

or is your complaint that six new colours isn’t enough, they need to replicate a crayola box for their lineup?

Again, I don't see how anyone could possibly be confused about what I just said.

First, I'd argue that the blue and the green are not super-bright "candy" colors. They are little deeper and darker than the rest. These colors would be able to blend into most professional environments really well depending on the accents and colors used in space. Silver will fit in anywhere. The trend in office space design right now is brighter with splashes of primary accents, so you could find a home for any of these colors in many modern offices.

Second, I think Apple needs to do more marketing featuring one color at a time, like they did with the original colored Macs. When you shove 7 contrasting colors at people all at once, the only possible reaction is "Wow, that's bright..." If you do more like bellow, you'd get more people saying "Hey that'd look really good in the Den/Home Office."

Well they’ve literally sold silver iMacs for over a decade and I’ve never heard anyone call silver a “bright candy colours” until now.

they went all in on bright colours except the side you look at which is subtle pastels and the silver one which is still silver.

I really don’t understand what you wanted.

Oh, man! I liked the look of the Space Gray keyboard and mouse. I may need to buy them soon (maybe on eBay) and use them with my quad-core i7 Mac Mini, and keep my white smaller Magic Keyboard and Mouse as backups (maybe even assign them to use with my M1 MacBook Air in desktop mode.)

Apple still sells all of them, available “while supplies last.”

Seeing how reseller culture has exploded this past year, I wouldn’t wait until they’re gone …unless you want to spend a ridiculous sum.

Honestly, I own a 2019 21.5" iMac and not the iMac Pro. I would like to see a silver Magic Keyboard with black Keys that matches the silver of the iMac, and same for the Magic Mouse although the SG is mostly hidden on the bottom of the device.

I purchased the SG Magic Keyboard and returned it because the aluminum clashed with the silver for me. That and it was $149.00 plus tax, so it was going back unless it was perfect.

Apple sure is on a roll discontinuing things. I’m glad I was able to get these and 2 HomePods. I swear, if you’re not rich you’ll never keep up.
Right! I picked up what could've been the last Space Gray HomePod that Best Buy had online, and it's even a demo unit according to the box. Arrived and packaged like it was brand new.

They sure have been on a roll discontinuing products lately.

I use a Space Gray magic keyboard and trackpad combo with my iMac and I think they both look amazing even though my computer is silver. They really should have made a SG version of the new iMac it’s the best color Apple makes as far as desktops go imo.
I don't care for the SG aluminum with the silver of the iMac. I wish we could get a silver keyboard with black keys that are also backlight.

How about discontinuing the Magic Mouse completely considering it has, quite possibly, the most idiotic design choice in the history of Apple, the effing charge port on the bottom.
It's always been a great mouse for me. I can understand the issues with the charging port being on the bottom, but I've always liked the design.

You do have an extra option if you don't like the "kiddy colors", it's called Silver. The standard color the consumer iMac has always been.

It's fine for me. Zero issues. It needs to be charged once a month. I leave it overnight when it is getting low on battery.

I just don't get the hostility to this. How many of you have a dead mouse that you absolutely have to use while plugged in because you couldn't be an adult and charge your ****?
Holy apologists!

It’s an idiotic design choice. Yes, let’s put the port on the bottom so the mouse can’t be used, and also sits on your desk like something is underneath it.

Some of us don’t use our home computer for weeks. Some of us don’t always keep our computer on 24/7.

There was a qi-compatible wireless charging coil + battery cover for the first gen Magic Mouse and that made so much sense.

Maybe the Magic Mouse 3, then.

Man, Thank god I got my Space Grey Magic Mouse a few months ago. It's sad that they are cancelling the colour, its my favourite.

This is the most likely possibility.... that Apple is quietly developing a next generation Magic Mouse. If so, then it makes zero sense to keep manufacturing more of the current-generation "pro lux" grey mice.

I rib Apple critics often enough for just having sensory or logic freakouts. But, do keep in mind that Apple is the same "trillion dollar" company that introduced the 2013 Mac Pro.

Not that the 2013 Mac Pro was a Juicero juicer.... But, despite supposedly the best of intentions, trillions of dollars, and legitimately proving critics wrong on a routine basis: Apple can get things very wrong on occasion.

That isn't saying anything about the colors or removal of space gray.

@Maconplasma See this is the kind of sensor freakout thing I'm talking about.

Now, that said I get it. The new iMac colors forcefully reintroduce "Lite Mode" -- where instead, as you've pointed out, cool non-hippsters are all vibbing on "Dark mode the _everything_" But, it's clear the space gray iMac color was only ever an iMac Pro exclusive. The iMac Pro is discontinued now, so the matching accessories have to go too. It's not a conspiracy.
Still, it sucks.. Space Gray is not an iMac Pro exclusive color. MacBook, MacBook Air, iPad Pro, iPhone and Apple Watch all come in Space Gray.
So if you bought a Space Gray MBA, MBP and/or iPad Pro, it’s not rare to expect yout to want Space Gray accessories too.

Yes, but we have to remember that Apple is driven now by sales numbers, so if they are discontinuing a product it is because it is not selling or they are coming up with an updated or new version. Does not mean the updated or new version is better, but that is why they do things. They cannot just continue making a product just to have it available if you have a space grey Mac if consumers are not buying it. Tim-Apple does not think like that.

I had to run out and buy a trackpad and keyboard because I planned eventually to buy, but just buying a mouse keyboard and trackpad is close to $400 where I am currently in the world...just for a keyboard, mouse and trackpad. I use a Logitech MX 2 mouse that matches great and is better for FCP than Apple's mouse (nice mouse, but seems heavy and clunky to use anyway). So I had to pass on my compulsion to have everything Apple and match perfectly in my setup and just stick with the keyboard and trackpad and call it a day.

Not sure if anything new will be compatible with my current setup, so I did not want to take the risk, so I just bought now.

Appreciate Macrumors to let us know about the change.
