The Space Grey Intel Mac mini is still lurking about, but it's not long for the world, either, so...
That was a curious decision. They kept the space grey for the old Intel version and made the new M1 version only available in silver. I didn’t understand that. Maybe they are phasing out space grey altogether one product at a time.

Perhaps other retail firms do it, but I just have to say: Only Apple has the balls to sell discontinued items as its original over-priced full price.

No sir-ree, bub! No closeouts from Apple! No "Everything Must Go"! No "Our Loss Is Your Gain"!

Maybe I am alone on this, but let me share my experience. When this peripherals came in this new space grey colors, at first, I obviously wanted them. I only had the old Magic Keyboard at that time (the one with batteries, and I still keep it, reliable and very comfortable). I wanted to get a Magic Trackpad and a second gen Magic Mouse, one for my mac and the other for my iPad Pro.

I was tempted to get the space grey/black ones; however, I decided to think about it twice. My iPad Pro, my mac mini, my MacBoook Air, all of them are silver. And the best color matching was the silver peripherals. But not only that, my Magic Keyboard was also silver and white. And as for the Magic Trackpad 2, I definitely preferred the white one. The Magic Mouse 2 in black would show the fingerprints way more than the white one. That’s when I decided to go all white, despite being the “mainstream” color.

NOOOOOOOOOOO! Not just they make white bezels, now they gonna get rid of space grey acessories. Now what, they’re gonna get rid of space grey? If that’s happening I’m switching back to a PC!
No. The new space grey macs would get the new Touch ID keyboard in space grey. Just wait and clam down.

I'll second that. And MACALLY discontinued its space gray model too, but they can still be found on Amazon. It works great, but I've worn off the letters already after just a few months. Thankfully I type without looking.

I spent a lot of time & effort switching everything on my desk over to black, because I find it less distracting.

Seems Apple’s out to put a stop to this.
No. Apple always has done space grey as a higher-end “pro” feature. Space grey isn’t going away. New magic keyboards have Touch ID so whenever space grey macs come they’ll get a Touch ID keyboard.

Was just about to pull the trigger on a keyboard, but with those touch ID keyboards, I'm wondering if I should just hold off for the 16-inch macbook pro and seeing if those will be compatible.

Exactly my sentiment. I have no use for the numeric pad. The space gray keyboard/mouse would have gone great with my space-gray, (normally closed, under my external monitors) MBP.
“Pros” by and large use numeric keyboards. At least according to apple. But I think they may be right here, if for no other reason but the separate direction keys.

Well I'm glad I read this article, because now I know I'm just imagining the space gray Mac mini sitting on my desk, since the iMac Pro was the "only space gray Mac".

Like I would understand the article's blunder if it was a long-since discontinued product, but it is still actively available for sale.
