I also doubt new iLife and iWork. The past versions are still really, really good and don't need updates. But, who knows--Apple might have create great, new functions.
I wouldn't be surprised if iLife was updated. iMovie has big room for improvement. The current version dropped tons of needed features that were in the previous version.

Also a new iLife suite could drive some holiday sales.

so i guess there is a high chance that there will still be 2 lines of macbooks? not the rumoured 'product merge'..

Same support document for the two products implies very similar hardware and layout.

To be honest, I think there may well be a merge in the hardware/pricing department (no big $1000 gap, all have basic features like an aluminium frame, big touchpad and backlit keyboard), but the 'Pro' name will be kept for the higher models with a dedicated video card, massive screen, quad core CPU, 4 memory slots and a Blu-Ray burner :D

This would be good for Apple, since it would convince more people to think "maybe I'll go that one model higher and get that quad core" and reduce manufacturing and support costs because more parts would be exchangeable.

At least, this is what I'm hoping for :p

I think Apple has begun to realize that the only people who even CARE about product info "leaks" are the absolute obsessed who are counting the days until they can shell out money for whatever is next.

Joe Notebook with his pretty white MacBook that he bought a year ago is not even remotely interested in buying something new right now. The combination of Leopard and the stability/speed/reliability of the last gen MacBooks puts anyone with 2 year or younger macbook in the category of NOT buying.

My father in law is great example of Joe Notebook; he loves his MacBook, but its less than 2 years old and to him, that's still NEW. He won't even buy an LCD tv because he believes they are "only a 5 year tv".

The only folks who will be buying the new macbooks are NEW Apple owners, of course us, el geek squad, and also professionals who are due for upgrades and can afford them at this time.

All in all I cannot see "leaks" being anything but free advertising to the few who will even hear about it, especially so close to release.

or macusers with a old ibook or powerbook

I agree that iLife needs LOTS of extra features, and even needs to clean up the workings of many of the programs. They could improve iWork as well. However, these programs work adequately, though not optimally. Since it was released on year ago I can't imagine an update. My bet is on January or even summer 2009.

jobs must be screaming at everyone in cupertino by now. i think this is the biggest product leak to happen so far. beyond the Nano 4G.

Or is he saying. These controlled leaks have worked wonders. Look at all the free publicity. And as a bonus they are all running around like headless chickens trying to guess what were doing. :D

??? Wasn't this already confirmed--by Apple's invite to a Notebook event?

The only thing this document adds is that Apple isn't planning on retiring the Macbook/Macbook Pro brands

Zzzzzz

I didn't even think about that, Seems very likely. When was the last version released?

Wait for the news "Apple releases new notebooks confirming Apple's invitation about releasing new notebooks".
LOL. :D The only info this "epic fail" brings to the table is that the notebook line isn't merging—still sticking with MacBook and MacBook Pro. Hardly a blunder.

I don't quite see the point of this post as it was pretty well confirmed as it is, but what I do find interesting is the mention of the Airport being behind the display.
Here's why.. Forgive me as I don't know too much about the anatomy of the newer MBP's but when I had a Powerbook I could have sworn there were ports on both sides of the Notebook, where as now they just have the optical drive on one, and the ports on the other, plus moving the airport away to the display.

We've heard rumor of the MBP "supporting" Bluray but could this be any indication of actually shipping with Bluray drives? As it's common knowledge they aren't small and would need a lot more room. This is probably still unlikely as they're most likely still too big to fit in that kind of space but i'm still curious as to why all the shifts, hmm.

I do not know if they keep something big but I would really like to see an MBA update and tbh it would be better a 2nd generation of a MBA.

Also we have to consider that MBA is already 250 days on the market w/o a single update. I give some chances to it.

As mentioned, we now know that there will still be seperate MacBook and MacBook Pro lines.

it will be about notebooks, nothing else.

Don't be too sure. A few times in the past, Steve Jobs has started the keynote by saying something like:

"Thank you for coming today. Before we talk about (X) I would briefly like to talk about an update to (Y)."

Surely, Apple has already announced they will be releasing MacBook products this coming week. Releasing a technical document about the devices is nothing more than internal house keeping ..(keeping documentation up to date).
i would think these things are timed / planned when the documentation is updated. better to do it early then late.
Can't see what the big deal is.

The G5 had to be most (well, biggest) leak.
It appeared in the online store a few days before release:p

I thought the G4 iMac was the biggest leak as it ended up on the front page of Time magazine before it was released.

I totally agree with you. It makes sense.

I remember that day. It was before I was registered on Macrumors, however I was able to click through and see it personally. Apple did this only four days before the unveiling, and it was called "Premature specification" by one of Apple's marketing folks, and was quoted by Steve during his keynote!

Good times ;)
