Oh...

The support doc is gone... 'Fixed' as it were...

Also the Airport 'card' isn't in the displays currently, the antennae is. Placing the 'card' in the display seems a new idea for MB/MBP and notebooks in general.

Makes me wonder how big this display is...

EDIT: Although the idea of putting the Airport card in first (after taking a MBP apart) makes sense to keep the small cables 'occupied' and less prone to mischief...

I don't think this constitutes any big leak as everybody and his brother, knows Apple has already announced they will be introducing new portables on Tuesday. I've worked as Mac service tech for past 6 years and I can tell you occasionally we come across resource info regarding soon to be released Apple product. The could mean they will be available on Tuesday which would make most people happy. They wanna make sure technical resources are available for Mac tech guys like myself who may have to repair a model which may have some problem out of the box. I'm for this because I can recall a few times newly released product has come in for service however Apple did not post service manuals for said product. It just goes to illustrate the complexity of bringing a new product to market. I did do quick search through Apple GSX service resource site and didn't find anything relating to these impending MacBook/MacBook Pro (Late 2008). What may be of interest is that current MacBooks and MacBook Pro designs are different from each other and this document may signal that the inner workings of consumer and pro models may be similar. Not a huge deal for end user but it is of interest to me and my colleagues who repair these things. What a lot of people don't realize is even though many Macs look the same externally their internal designs differ from generation to generation. Some Macs liked the 12" Powerbook G4 looked like the 15" and 17" aluminum but actually were closer to iBooks under the hood. By the way, the actual location of Airport card in display should not have dramatic impact on reception as the antenna which are located in the frame of displays and that's what's going to determine how good signal/reception is going to be. Relocating Airport card in display would create additional room on logic board for something else - perhaps. All speculation of course.

It's Gone?

I just tried to look at the support document and it's not available:confused: Could someone at :apple: realized that this was a mistake:p oh well, I can't wait for the 14ht:D
EDIT: Whoops someone beat me to that fact. oh well :p

Man, Apple is good at "leaking" info about upcoming products. What a marketing scheme!

I'm convinced that they strategically do this. Name me one other company in any other industry that generates this kind of excitement. It is rare.

glass screens

did anyone notice in the document how the thickness looked like its likely to be glass screens? not sure how that would work without breaking - must be reinforced or something. I suppose thats to save on plastic?

Can you watch the event live on the internet or something? Or do you have to wait until it is over to find out what was said?

I wouldn't be surprised if iLife was updated. iMovie has big room for improvement. The current version dropped tons of needed features that were in the previous version.

Also a new iLife suite could drive some holiday sales.

Yeah really. imovie 08 is a breaze to work with, but good luck for someone who likes special effects. I also bought some add in plug-ins and was told it would work with ilife08 - nope, good thing Apple kept Imovie HD 6 as a fee download for those who had ilife08 (imovie 7).

In fact, it appears i might even be able to ditch my abobe premier elements I had for Windows.

Also, if anyone knows of a good book for learning Final Cut Express, please let me know (email me). I really would like to ditch all my windows products.....

So the next AirPort card will be placed in the display assembly?

Sorry if this has been posted already.

This makes sense. If you look on Intel's page for Centrino 2 processors, one of the wireless demos shows the placement of antennas to be behind the screen for better wireless-n reception. If they do this on the new MacBooks too, that would explain the plastic outer shell. Awesome!!!

these should be pretty cool but will they update them again for macworld? hopefully cause i will probably get on sometime in april.

They are 'linked' to the notebooks, sorta. But then so are projectors...

Our distributor has over 3,000 Apple notebooks in stock. They aren't going to be too happy I think on Tuesday. Although Apple has 'price protection' where they either lower the prices or 'buy' them back at the original cost.

Well, if your distributor has a bunch and Apple comes out with an $800 new model, tell your distributor to email me and I will but one of the older ones from him for $600. I know someone who needs a mac bad, but his imcome is limited (he's a security guard and a part-time worship pastor).

OK so Macbooks are getting redesigned maybe a little touchup for the air. Form the press invitation its VERY CLEAR that new notebooks are coming maybe a new slate/tablet, though not likely. They are very particular about this one pictures of cases no threats to take them down.
SO heres the question. What AREN'T they telling us? The whole point of espionage is to keep the enemy busy with information trying to analyze it that they forget the big picture, and the stuff you have to move but is so big it will stand out like a sore thumb so you use something to keep the enemy busy. Will 2009 be the year of the Desktop or something in January? What about the mini, does it just go away or is it replaced?

We don't really know what is going to be announced Tuesday. This is just one thing that we have been able to confirm. We know there will be an update to the MacBook and the MacBook Pro... thats all we are able to know for certain. Who knows what else Apple has up their sleeve.
:apple:

Reason behind moving the card to the back of the Display

according to this

http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/2007/10/22/displayport_a_look_inside/1

"Add to that an ever increasing number of radios (Bluetooth, WiFi, HSDPA and WiMAX to name a few) inside notebooks which run the risk of interference if there are too many antennas in one place. To fix this, aerials are being moved behind the notebook’s LCD panel, meaning an increasing number of wires competing for cable access through the LCD panel’s hinge. That makes it harder to widen the cable for LVDS. "

We can only speculate that the new machines will probably have a possible Display port - at least on the pro machines.

So aluminum cases for the MacBook are finally confirmed, as it seems. But what happened to the "glass trackpads"? What was that all about? And isn't aluminum less cost-effective as a material than polycarbonate casing, especially for a lower-cost MacBook?

"Glass trackpads" sound cool... but I don't know if it would actually be practical. (SP?)

No live video streams.
There are some sites that provide live audio streams, but the quality sucks ass.
Several sites have live blog (text) updates. Check at MacRumors.com Tuesday morning, Arn usually posts a list of sites carrying live reports.

But what happened to the "glass trackpads"? What was that all about?

Why is everybody so eager for glass trackpads. Aside from making it look "cool" is there any advantage or technical advances in this area that laptops would benefit from?

Don't qoute me on this but from what I understan glass is better for heat sensitive trac pads as they are more sensitive due to the way glass molecules bond in comparison to plastic which is not so good but does the job fine imo...
that is my understanding anyway so precision would be one point and yes they look damn cool

Or is he saying. These controlled leaks have worked wonders. Look at all the free publicity. And as a bonus they are all running around like headless chickens trying to guess what were doing. :D

True but look how well that terrible Seinfield commercial did! Everyone in the world was talking about it.

Now MSFT is doing commercials that actually work.

That being said, HELLO WE'RE IN A FINANCIAL MELTDOWN, APPLE STOCK HAS DROPPED 100%, LUXURY ITEMS ARE JUST THAT, LUXARY!!!

If Apple misses the boat again and there is no dedicated GPU on at least mid range, or current macbooks, Apple just doesn't get it and will be hurt in the long run.

Think about this.

Apple had the on-board go from 70% OPEN GL test to 171% with LEOPARD then they crippled it and now its 70% again!

Why?

Why?

Why?

Becuase 1% of the market, the PRO, were buying it and using it for motion.

HELLO! If you release a GPU dedicated you get gamers and therefore more sales that will far out weigh the PRO USER (1%) by 100 FOLD.

Again, Apple's Marketing department needs to grow some and tell Steve like it is and tell him, "look Steve, we know you're paranoid about the Pro using the low end model but we've discovered the Pro will always buy the high end quad/eight core machines and if they buy a low end, so what, the gamer and high school, college crowd will far out sell any Pro user that uses the low end, so the numbers speak for themselves and you have to get over it, okay Steve, Steve, you okay, Steve?"

Really.;)

We don't know. It is usually a few days or a week before the event that the product actually starts arriving at stores and such, but a support document suggests that they'll be available quite soon after the event.

It may be a fake document with the real one having it a differnt place.

SO heres the question. What AREN'T they telling us?

You may have a point there...the "one more thing" is DEFINITELY NOT gonna be a notebook.

1) It's not a tablet either, since tablets are a DEAD market;
2) It might be a greatly upgraded Mini, but I don't believe it; or
3) It might a new HDTV from Apple with all-inclusive media center capabilities...
