If this ballroom project goes well, perhaps they can demolish the rest of the old dilapidated White House and replace it with something grander and more fitting of the greatest nation on earth? Maybe this time clad in gold instead of white?

What about the $230 million he wants to pay for himself.
Or the $176 million for the two jets for ICE Barbie to travel around for more photo shoots?

That’s a lot of taxpayer dimes.

Could’ve used all that money to pay ATC who are literally keeping thousands of people safe every day but now are DoorDashing to make ends meet. Do you really want them more exhausted than they already are?
What about that 38 trillion dollar debt? It wasn’t racked up by a frequent flyer.

Perhaps the Senate should open the Government then...if paying the ATC is important?

For what it's worth, I attended a state dinner that hosted a bunch of world leaders during the very tail end of the Obama admin. They do them in a giant tent on the lawn and it's kind of brutal and terrible, it's this massive operation: a literal catering kitchen and restrooms, dining and stage area atop the grass. It's done to a high standard but it's really not ideal and probably not cheap to assemble and disassemble every time you need to host something.

Having a dedicated building on the grounds to host these types of gatherings is absolutely appropriate, politics aside.

Are you arguing against the fact that UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, China, Singapor etc arent among the best countries in the world? Western democracies are falling apart all over and barely functional as a society.

Lets look at a basic list, you tell me which countries in the middle east are doing better:

Monarchies:
  • Saudi Arabia – Absolute monarchy
  • Jordan – Constitutional monarchy
  • Morocco – Constitutional monarchy
  • Kuwait – Constitutional monarchy (Emir)
  • Bahrain – Constitutional monarchy (King)
  • Qatar – Absolute monarchy (Emir)
  • United Arab Emirates (UAE) – Federation of hereditary monarchies
  • Oman – Absolute monarchy (Sultan)
Democracies/Republics:
  • Egypt – Republic
  • Iraq – Federal parliamentary republic
  • Syria – Republic
  • Lebanon – Parliamentary republic
  • Israel – Parliamentary democracy
  • Turkey – Presidential republic
  • Iran – Islamic republic (theocratic elements)
  • Yemen – Republic
Which countries would you rather visit. Look at China vs the USA even they have a functional government, we havent had one since before nixon even.
The common thread in your list is most suck if you're a woman. Most suck if you aren't Muslim, in the correct sect. Most suck if you believe in free speech, most suck if you aren't member of the lucky sperm club, most suck because of rampant corruption and iron fist religious violence. Sounds perfect for you thinking they are the best countries. How sad is that. You do You

I read an interesting article somewhere covering how all major additions/renovations as far back as Thomas Jefferson were decried as wasteful, extravagant, and/or destroying history. Putting aside opinions on our current administration, a ballroom could be a useful, arguably needed addition to the White House. As others mentioned,
state events often require a tent pitched outside.

Let’s just hope the next president refurnishes the ballroom to tone down Trump’s garish love of gold.

Clad completely in gold would be something, but let's be modest and not try to outdo the ancient Egyptian pharaohs, and instead keep the cladding to fine white tufa limestone with a gold-covered capstone.

He saved us some money and also kept money supporting American families and businesses, its not just saved us some money. I've seen contracts for companies that have thousands of employees that benefit from this, and they are all American and that will also help the economy. So it's a bit more than just saving us some money, it provides livelihood for those employed as well.
Anecdotes aren’t data. The economy is doing worse so far.

I wish the world was so black/white where I can be like oh he did X, he has to go now! But I understand the fluidity of world governments and leadership, and they are ALL corrupt, every single one in modern history has very dirty hands. I wish that it wasn't that way, but it just is. I can give you a recent example, he just pardoned the founder of Binance (and I know he has family ties into crypto.) I 100% don't agree with that, so what do you want me to do? Fire him, get him out, it's time to go! He crossed a red line, he pardoned somebody that should be serving time for fraud! I'm sorry the world isn't so black and white.

I help and serve in my local community and businesses in things that I can personally change and help. To ponder about hypothetical red lines, I'm sorry, it's just not something I'm going to invest further of my time into. When his term is up, someone else will come and the people will continue bickering. I don't want to argue, I just hope he does more good than bad, and if he crosses some line, I hope he's gone for it.
You came into this thread criticizing people who have taken a moral stance against this president. People who believe he’s crossed too many redlines. But you can’t even bother to say where you think those lines should be?

Did you ever consider that they may be right?

Let's also hope the federal agencies required by law to review the plans and construction manage to tone it down from Trump's fever dreams to a reasonable degree so it's not looming tall over the residence, and that it doesn't extend to cover more ground than needed for the claimed purpose. But the Trump maladministration is already talking about not wanting to be limited by those agencies in any way, contrary to law.

But even if Trump agrees to changes by these agencies, it wouldn't surprise anyone if he just goes ahead and builds it his way, and challenges them to stop him. He's already lied that the East Wing would remain intact.

Nothing that I will claim or not claim is going to change the fact that he's currently president until his term is up. I'm not pretending anything, I believe in two-terms, and if he tried for a third I'd be 100% against it and wouldn't vote for him or support him or any other president attempting the same.
He can say whatever he wants, he's not running a third term. It's just upsetting people that are swallowing up whatever he says, he's always been very good at controlling and gaining media attention, this has been him for decades.
He tried to stay in office at the end of his last term. He’ll try again.

If it was made up why did Biden need to pardon his son? In regards to the Clinton Foundation, why did the vast majority of all donations dry up after Hillary lost?
Biden pardoned his son to prevent Trump's DOJ from being able to hit Hunter with some bogus indictment. Given what we're seeing of Trump demanding that his DOJ prosecute people he imagines are his "enemies", Biden did the right thing. And tell us what scam you think The Clinton Foundation pulled, without citing bogus nonsense.

My red line is 1 day over his second term, or any of the extremely disturbing ideas you mentioned a US president doing.
I don't need to consider who is right or wrong. I'm not the US president and I'm not itching to have him removed or to stay longer.
