They think a few discounts will make the mess better, but they have failed their consumer base this time. Hope it wakes them up.
the point is to enable editing of 4k video at actual size, while having additional room for editing software UI.What is the point of buying 5K monitor now when the iPhone can only take 4K videos? Will the text be too small to see? I am a programmer.
Wonder what the chances are of getting something like this, or any there panel/internals and rigging it up to the thunderbolt/ACD models. The ACD models are quite a bit thicker than todays monitors, so with some modding, don't see why the internals of new displays can't be attached to the Apple casings. Granted it renders warranty useless, but anyone modding already knows that.
Not having the Apple aluminum housing and logo around it, makes it less desirable to the average Joe.
It is what happens when people stand up and speak the truth.
When something is unfair, don't buy.
Then the change will happen.
Last years Retina MacBook Pros were already capable to run almost everything the new ones can. There was never going to be a big boost in CPU performance coming with Skylake. The improvement was always to be expected in the graphics department, from not being able to run a 5K display to being able to run two 5K@60Hz simultaneously. Maybe you and everyone else should explain what kind of otherworldly capabilities you expected to 'make it pro'?
The rumors pointed directly to the machine we've got.
Notice how he says there are no rumors indicating new iMacs, minis, Pros.
I never understood why they didn't just use the iMac case without the PC components for their monitors. Use the 5k panel from the current iMacs, remove the "computer" portion, put in whatever ports/features they want (speakers, thunderbolt, usb, etc) and be done. It would certainly cut down on costs since they could bulk order more panels and cases and wouldn't have to retool the production for the case.
It's also too bad they removed the target display feature. They may have sold some extra iMacs to people who really cared about aesthetics.
I don't know, but I usually keep my word. How many people were "not buying" a screen that's not available for another month?
Hmmm…
It would appear the word got back to Apple about their user base not being happy about being taken advantage of just for being a loyal Mac user.
So much for our friends out there saying that the complainers should just shut up or leave because complaining won't do any good.
Maybe Apple are realising they have screwed up.
RGB color gamut and brightness (300 nits vs 500 nits) are inferior on the Lenovo. So is the GPU (look up the 1000M scores compared to something like the GTX 960M, which is a reasonable comparison to the Radeon Pro 450 despite drawing 30 more watts). You're also stuck with desktop RAM, so forget about battery life comparisons. Additionally, you're going to need to buy a Samsung SM951 at 512GB in order to get similar disk speeds, not the 960 Pro...so $485 instead of $330, which means the Lenovo is at $2100. Weight of the Lenovo is 1.5 pounds higher. Then consider that the Lenovo doesn't have an option to get the jumbo size track pad, Touch ID and secure enclave chip, and Touch Bar. Not really looking like such a bargain.
Well that's a legitimate complaint, but since the monitor and laptop are being released at basically the same time, it's natural they go together. And there are obviously a lot of other alternatives for older computers. On another note, idk why people are complaining about the keyboard so much. I stopped in an Apple Store and tried the non-touch bar version today. Got used to the butterfly keys instantly.I'm not complaining about the fact the prices dropped. I'm complaining because companies that launch really successful new products don't announce price cuts before some of them are even available for purchase.
As a 2013 Mac Pro workstation owner, I'm frankly disgusted that Apple never released a suitable 4K or 5K display to pair up with it. That should have happened close to day 1 of its release, really. Now, when they FINALLY announce a couple of updated monitors, they're so lazy about it, they just ask LG to market a couple of "designed for Apple" screens with no Apple logo on them. And the result is a 4K screen that's smaller than anything I'd bother with at this point, and a 5K that's a suitable size, but incompatible with a Mac Pro at native resolution.
This whole thing feels like they're expected people like me to just buy the overpriced new Macbook Pro laptop to run the new display and live with the limitations that would impose, like no more than 16GB of RAM and the inconvenience of no USB 2.0/3.0 ports. Not to mention the graphics card isn't as powerful as what's in my Pro workstation now.
Along with dropping the prices on all of its USB-C adapters accessories to help new MacBook Pro owners transition to USB-C more affordably, Apple has also introduced some significant price cuts to the 4K and 5K LG UltraFine Displays that were announced at its October 27 Mac event.

The LG UltraFine 5K Display is now priced at $974, a $325 price cut from its original price of $1,299.95.
The LG UltraFine 4K Display is now priced at $524, a $175 price cut from its original price of $699.95.
Each of LG UltraFine Display was designed in partnership with Apple to work specifically with the new MacBook Pro. The displays connect to the Apple's new MacBook Pro machines over Thunderbolt 3 and have features like built-in USB-C ports, charging capabilities, stereo speakers, P3 wide color gamut support, and on the 5K monitor, a camera and a microphone.
LG's 4K display is available for purchase immediately from the online Apple Store and will ship out to customers in five to six weeks. The 5K Display is not yet available for purchase, with Apple planning to launch it in December.
The price drops on the two displays are labeled as "Special Pricing" and will last until the end of the year. Apple also plans to discount its USB-C adapters until the end of 2016.

Yep, they know their sales numbers, and obviously it's failing their expectations. For me this sounds like a recognition by Apple. They realized they didn't get everything right with the new macbook pro and now they are adjusting accordingly.
To be fair: Intel does not provide a mobile chipset that supports low voltage DDR4 Ram/32GB yet. As soon as they do, Apple will beef up their offering. I would not bet on a price cut though. They probably release 32gb ram option and price cut in 2017.
"not even their product."This doesn't affect Apple's bottom line. It's not even their product. All your whining to drop the prices on macbook pros just gets you a discount on monitors and dongles that no one wanted in the first place.
Only because some weird hack works with one Dell 5K display, doesn't make it a standard. At least not a widely adopted one. Oddly enough I found a 'Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort Adapter'. So you can use an older 5K display with a newer TB3 computer, but not the other way around.5K @ 60Hz is possible with two Mini DisplayPort streams, that requires dual Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt cables. The Dell 5K display uses this method and works with 2014/2015 5K iMacs, 2015 15" Retina MacBook Pro, and Mac Pro (Late 2013). Sure plugging in a single Thunderbolt 3/USB-C cable is a better solution, even one worth waiting for. But LG could have put in an option for Thunderbolt 2 compatibility for those who just bought a brand new 5K iMac and have to use the older standard.

Wrong! USB-C is USB, TB3 is entirely compatible with USB 3.1 (10 Gbps), 3.0 (5 Gbps), 2.0 (480 Mbps), 1.x (12 Mbps) protocols and can connect to all your printers, phones, cameras, hard drives etc. even without a dongle. All you need is a USB cable with the right plugs on both ends. Ethernet is already missing from all MacBook Airs and all Retina MacBook Pros ever build. And even USB-C to HDMI 1.4b cables will be available to support 4K TVs with 3D and Surround Sound. You no longer need Apples USB-C-Digital-AV-Multiport-Adapter, unless you have a MacBook with only one port and want to charge it and connect a TV at the same time.No one wants Apple's dongles, though everyone buying those new laptops has to buy them if they want to connect to: Ethernet, USB printer, their iPhone, digital camera, external hard drive, a projector, a tv, their preferred wired mouse, etc.
What doesn't dropping the price of an accessory have to do with the sale sale volume of the MacBook Pro!?
They probably expected X% of MacBook Pro buyers to also buy a monitor. The % of monitor sales is probably far lower than expected, thus the price adjustment of the monitor. Which has no bearing on the claims of high MacBook Pro pre-orders.
LG could have also wanted the price dropped to stimulate sales, not solely an Apple decision.
How bad ARE the new MacBook pros selling? If they had planned this already, these lower peripheral prices would have been the starting point after the event. The only thing that makes sense is this is some kind of damage control...
