People are still gonna call them the "Apple store" in everyday lingo - notice I didn't capitalise the S. But I guess this makes things neater for however Apple want to present them in marketing and online.

Also, my local store is one of the ones that has the huge aluminium facades, are they still gonna stick around with renovation? I always thought they looked a bit obtrusive and seeing as Apple's big thing seems to be 'preserving' the look of the original building now it seems odd. Although my store is in a giant contemporary shopping centre and lots of the new stores are being put into historical, beautiful buildings. But I noticed a few of the recently renovated stores had the logo removed from the outside.

The change makes a lot of sense when you think about it (and apparently some people are not bothering to actually think about it ;)).

Not only is it redundant to say "Store" after "Apple" when giving a shopping location (we know that it is not an Apple head office in a shopping center, obviously!). But it is also easier to remember and say with the word "Store" removed.

If you say you are going to the Walmart or Best Buy at a particular shopping center, do you say "I'm going to the Walmart Store" or "I'm going to the Best Buy Store"? Of course you don't!

Those people who are making fun of Apple dropping the word "Store" from their shopping locations, should start using the word "Store" after every store name they go to. They will then realize how foolish they sound if they tell people they are going to the "7-11 Store" or to the "Target Store". :p

I have thought about it. And it still makes no sense, especially given the example you cited.

With places like Walmart or Best Buy, they are nothing more than stores. There isn't a WalmartPhone, or a Best Buy 8" Tab Pro. Consequently, just saying "Walmart" or "Best Buy" is enough for people to know you are talking about a retail location.

But Apple? Apple is so many things. Apple could refer to a laptop, a tablet, a phone...and I've witnessed people refer to such devices as their "Apple". That's why the "Store" distinction is important.

 Now that is douchey! Glad to see they've run out of real work to do over there.

They probably spend $2.6 million on consulting time, logo & font design samples, Milano's, over seas flights for meetings about it in Ireland....you know the place that makes the most money overseas!;)

Bonuses were probably also handed out for a job well done.

I'm fine with the change, but it looks strange without the comma in between the Brand and Location. Typo perhaps?

Makes sense. It's not Macy's Store, Target Store, Lowes Store, Restoration Hardware Store, K Mart Store, Barnes and Noble Store, B&H Store, etc, after all.
It's not because it never was. It's just as silly as calling the Sunglass Hut the Sunglass.

Wow, they're taking the thinness to the next level, by making the name thinner

I suppose if they have nothing else to promote, i.e., no new product, they might as well rearrange the deck chairs.

FYI, they're still described as the 'Apple Store' at the bottom of the Apple website. Just above the link for 'Find a Store'. Presumably because there's no other way of describing them.
