I love the "fire em all" contingent. Like the sports fan who wants the entire coaching staff fired when they lose one game.

Because highly skilled engineers and programmers grow on trees.

If they were that highly skilled, they’d have a pile of job offers and wouldn’t have to resort to this pathetic combination of whining and public extortion to get what they want.

I was / am allowed to work from home permanently. I wouldn’t trade it for more money. I went from a 90 minutes commute (1 way) for 4 years, to 3 steps from my bed. Now I finish work around 4:30 pm and I am home! Instead of being home at like 8 pm. Days can be so long, it’s amazing
It's different for single people that can concentrate/focus on a task and those with families that have a lot of distractions during the day.

It's really sad how many commenters seem to think employees have no say and should obey every command from their employer. If you're so mediocre at your job that you have to stay in line like that, I pity you.

As someone who's been recruited by Apple and declined for this exact reason, and never regretted it because work comes to me (not the other way around), I can tell you that these people are the ones giving Apple a chance to correct itself. They have the power here. Apple is starving for talent and it's their biggest risk factor for future innovation and success.

Being told 3 times now that they're not going to be able to continue to watch tv from home under the guise of work IS whining

I urge you to write to Tobias Lutke immediately, he runs this small Canadian company called "Shopify" and I heard he's adopted a permanent work from home model for all of his employees. Write to him quickly to let him know all of his employees are at home watching TV!! QUICK! Before his company collapses!!!

madrigal77 conversing with the founding fathers:

"Let's send a letter to King George asking for better representation for our taxes! If he says no we shouldn't try to bully him into getting what we want because we're grown adults that were granted the privilege of serving the Crown."

*Jefferson realizes madrigal77 doesn't know what activism and campaigning for better conditions is*

Um, didn't they know the housing market there before they got jobs there? What were they doing before Covid? lol
You would be surprised how many people accept a job offer in a super high cost of living area and are then shocked at how expensive it is to live there. One of my former coworkers (graduated from JHU, so not dumb) moved to SF because they were offered a higher salary, only to lament a couple months later about how she is actually earning less when accounting for the cost of living...

Those with families can go to the office, have a shed in the garden made into an office, or go into a local shared office. The local village trade has been booming while having all the workers home. We want to improve the environment and get cars of the road, letting people work from home is a fantastic start. Having thousands of cars turn up at a parking lot every day does not help the environment and does not help local businesses. Here the people trying to push you back into the office aren't your own companies, it is big sandwich shops that wiped out all the local sandwich shops that are putting up the biggest fuss.

You realize the employees are a major facet of what makes a company good or not? Having them leave would almost certainly not make for better products coming out of Apple.
All depends on the employees. If you have a bunch of slackers leave, then it's a new positive for the company and the products. A win-win.

You know what’s the best protest of all times? Leave apple and find another place to work. Ex-Apple employee can be a gold plated addition to your resume you know?

Apple management will realise their mistake if their employee turnover is too much to ignore. Submission and acceptance don’t always work. Vote with your feet, not your hand. Turn your back to bad employer and Move to a Greener pasture.

Companies aren't our overlords. Especially if you are a highly skilled person. The whole concept that companies control 100 percent of the work "flow" is over. Things can flow both ways now, if they want to keep highly skilled people.
Every generation believes this and every generation finds out there are equally highly-skilled workers in other parts of the world ready to do their jobs with far less demands. Their are millions of American, highly-skilled, manufacturing workers that also thought they could control their workflow and ratcheted up demands and costs on employment and were abruptly introduced to involuntary career changes into the low-wage service industry.

Apple could give them a warning that their pay will be reduced by 20-25 percent if they don’t come into work in September and another 20-25 percent three months later. Their full pay will be restored based on the number of days they stayed away or Apple could restore their full pay a month after their return if they don’t want to be too punitive.

These employees need to go work for a company that will meet their needs. WFH is a given at several companies now, it's not hard to find one. If enough walk out then Apple might change their stance.

There's a lot of fanboys on this thread that dream about working at Apple and are jealous of these employees but Apple is not the best company for everybody.

I’ve been warning people for 16 months now: If you can work from home, then someone else can do your job from Budapest or Bangalore. The WFH zealots are playing with fire.
