And has Apple told us what they plan to do with the Mini? I believe the answer starts with a "n" and ends in "o".

Haha... for some reason when I read that I thought you were referring to the Mini becoming the Mac Nano (starts with "n", ends in "o").

Here's hoping for a considerable update to .Mac -- something to get excited about... along with more storage. :)

If anything .mac will get folded into iwork or ilife, that's if it isn't completely
tossed in the trash. Someone once posted an analysis of how little money
.mac makes and how they'd make more money giving it away.

Eventually the Mini and the :apple:TV will merge into one unit.
Except for a possibly better-tweaked streaming interface, there isn't anything the :apple:TV does that the mini does not. Sure, the :apple:TV has an interface geared towards TV-use, but so does the mini with Frontrow.

If that is the case, why do minitower outsell AIO's by a large margin, even when they are priced similarly?
Volume. How many all-in-one desktops are there on the market? How Many are priced below $700, where most computer purchases take place? Almost none. And again, if you include ALL all-in-ones from all segments (i.e. notebooks too), then they handedly outsell towers.
And fact of the matter is that Apple does not offer a suitable computer for a huge number of consumers.
Patently untrue. Apple offers a suitable computer for almost everyone in the general public. What good would expandability do when there's nothing to put into the slots? They're not going to expand their hardware base to massive levels. Commodity hardware isn't going to work in the Mac, and companies aren't going to waste the time and money to make Mac-compatible versions because there's no money in it. If what you're saying is that you want an upgradable video card in something in the iMac's price category, I'd have to ask, what video cards?

Yep they are. And that still doesn't change the fact that minitower is the predominant form-factor out there, even though there are cheaper alternatives available.
Such as? The cheapest computers are minitowers. There are no cheaper alternatives.
Hell, Mac Mini is cheaper than large number of minitowers, yet it's not a huge success that dominates the industry, now is it?
No, it's not. $599 is pretty close to the average purchase price for a computer (INCLUDING monitor and keyboard) based on sales numbers. The general public does not buy computers above about $800--it's a minority market. It's also not dominating the industry because it's a *Mac.* There's no magical path for ANY Apple product to dominate the industry. There's no enough manufacturing capacity and not enough interest in the Mac. For all the switchers and potential switchers out there, OS X will not be rivaling Windows for market share any time soon.

Hmm, I'm not sure how reliable this is. Why a small gathering for iMacs that are supposed to be so new and great looking? I'm guessing they made it small to ward off rumors that it was for the new iMac.

Hey the released the iPod there. Besides there doesn't need to be this huge gathering for a product redesign.

I dunno, it seems like they'd want everyone to see it if it's as beautiful as the rumours have been hyping. But, you may be right.

They may just update the entire Desktop Mac Line...I mean, all of them are due...so it is possible...of course, maybe there is something bigger coming...like a multitouch Mac...but, I doubt it.

maybe we'll see a useful update to the iphone at this event. one that gives us basic things like MMS, custom ringtones, and ichat. my 4 year old SE has them.

Thank GOD this is a Mac-only event. I'm starting to get a little tired of the iPhone taking over everything. :)

iMac will ship with Leopard when Leopard is released, it's not tied to new version of iMac at all. There might be some small updates along the way, but next major iMac-refresh will probably take place in spring 2008 or so.

It would be crazy to hold off on a redesign just for Leopard.

Believe me, there will be a metal, slightly less leno'd, thinner iMac next week.

I doubt you have any more insight than anyone else here as to what the final form factor will be. We shall see.

Somebody finally voices some reason, we have no idea what the new imacs are gunna look like, even rumors are wrong sometimes, every imac update has been completely different to the last so we'll just have to see how it goes....

4 days...

EDIT: Does anybody know if theres any elevators to spill the beans in??? :p

Anyone got any guesses on how many replies this thread gets by Tuesday?

I guess 722

You know, I've heard a lot of various people say things like "I'm waiting for a new iMac" or "I'm waiting until Leopard is released" before they buy anything over the past year... does anyone think that the number of Mac sales will be significantly higher after both are released or do you think the number of people waiting isn't high enough to produce a ridiculously great selling quarter?
