While a redesign of the iMac for tomorrow is very likely, and may not be the only announcement, I would strongly advise that all of you who are posting lists of everything that you think will be announced not get your hopes up. Don't forget, last time Apple hosted an event of this sort, all we got was an unimpressive update to the Mac mini, the introduction of the iPod HiFi, and the leather case for the iPod that I think sold about 14 units.
Well, I can give a pretty good guess that apple will be showing off the new id gaming engine. ( check out my previous post.)
Hey, check out this youtube vid of John Carmack talking about his new gaming engine for the mac. At around 1:55 he brings up how he would be previewing the engine in august and as well as a mac related announcement that he couldn't go into. So is there any possibility of this being that announcement in august?

(Perhaps the Top Secret features? Do they even exist?!)
The only "Top Secret" features I can think of would be to team up with Nintendo and add a scaled down wiimote as a the new apple remote.

new product

and what a about a totaly newproduct?

like a smaller , cheaper and more configurable tower without the monitor?

it's the biggest hole in mac lines; something to gaming powerfuly with 8800 gtx for 1500$

knucles, pattern:

Have you guys not been reading the thread?! This topic has been covered. It's not happening. No "mini-tower".

Maybe a re-designed form factor for the Mac Mini, if it's not discontinued. Match up the footprint with that of the :apple:TV , kind of like component-based stereo-towers. :) Lots of stacking fun.

Secretly hoping for a re-emergence of the Cube design (with some updating, of course). Would be a great centerpiece for a recording setup, I think.

Should be a fun event, at any rate.

OK, some 25 hours to go before the iEvent. While I need to replace my aging G5 20" iMac, something confuses me: shouldn't the iMacs existing stock show signs of drying up before they release a new generation? Currently the Apple store is showing 24-Hr shipping for all computers except for the 15" MBP (7-10 days).
Maybe, just a BIG maybe, it will be something new, a paradigm change so to speak? And no, I don't think the news will be only about a .Mac refresh.

We are bound to have a few voices of disappointment. OK, the obligatory iPod/iTunes event should come next month, Apple will not dilute the introduction of Leopard in October October with a separate music-related event during the same month. Emmm, iTunes 8, 6G iPod, 3G Nano & Shuffle ... :D

TUAW Posts Rumor

I see one problem with their "source." Why would the source claim to know the announcements, yet is unsure on future of the Mac Mini? huh.
So TUAW is thinking slimmer metal iMacs with the Penryn chip. Sounds good, but I'm hoping for a bit more substance... Bigger standard HD space (500GB would be great, but I doubt it will be standard), more standard ram (2GB would be nice - DDR3 support would be great per the Penryn chip - but it won't happen, as they aren't even offering this standard on the Mac Pro), and better video card (we'll see about this). Honestly - if all we get is a metal enclosure and a slightly bumped CPU I'll be disappointed...

I for one am planning to be disappointed. There has yet to be something hardware-wise that excited me from Apple in a long time.

I guess Apple just thinks there isn't a market for them for non-AIO devices? Ya, Mac Pro, but that is more machine than I need and thus much too expensive!

Not bad, but for me the stand just no longer looks right on this design. Somehow that needs to be integrated more.

It would be extremely odd if it was anything other than an iMac update as the keyboard was essentially confirmed by Apple as being the real thing (actively getting everyone to take it down) and the event is about Macs. The Mac Mini is out-dated to the point of them dropping it and the MacPro is already where it needs to be in terms of updates, so the iMac it is!

They haven't been "actively getting everyone to take it down". It's still up ad Engadget.

They are dwindling; retail stores have had a heck of a time getting stock. Apple of course prefers their own stores and online store over other retailers.

Well I thought by now the shipping times would have changed on the iMacs. All base model macs (except the 15" MacBook Pro, 7-10 days probably due to display inventory issues) say shipping within 24 hours. Either Apple has an incredible abundance of the new iMac to be announced, or there ain't no new iMacs yet. All this talk about mac updates might just be about software (iLife, iWork & .Mac) updates.

:D

Amazon has been out for weeks (except a few 3rd party vendors). Small Dog Electronics has many on "backorder" and 2 or 3 in stock. I have the last of the 20' G5's which moves over to the wife and I get the NEW iMac! (She gets some new shoes and clothes also)

Here's to hoping for Penryn and a monster video card upgrade...

Isn't gonna happen. It'll be thinner and sleeker, basically a MBP behind a monitor. Apple considers it's computers more than powerful enough for the average user, they're working on design and usability.
