I am going to school on august 11th and I need the imac before than. Which way is the best way to get it, if you guys think is possible? Rush deliver online, or brick and morter store?

If they are available in the apple store online august 7th, rush order it, and if not, call an apple store to see if or when they have them. If they wont for a couple days and you cant reserve one, order one online when they are available. Basicaly If you can get it online on the 7th or 8th, do it, if not, get it in store

Or Better Yet...

I agree. I'm also betting that the iMac is no more and will be called just Mac (or even Macintosh).

if they are available in the brick and mortar store that day get it there, other wise see if they kn ow when it they are getting them in, and decide based on the answer they give you.

Guess

New iMac/Keyboard
Revamped Mini
iLife/iWork 08'
Leopard update/new features? (Perhaps the Top Secret features? Do they even exist?!)

One More Thing... Something iPod related (But isn't it Mac only? True, but it's a One More Thing! Rules don't apply!)

I'll Pray It's Harpertown In Stoakley-Seaburg Early Access

My guesses:

1) New iMac and keyboard
2) Updated Mac Pro
  • Video card options: nVidia 8800GTS (640 meg), Quadro FX 5600, and ATI HD 2600xt

:D
Hope you're right. If it's early access to Harpertowns in SS Logic Boards I'll be jumping for joy.

Seems like we've all forgotten about the Cinema Displays. I think Steve will probably open
with a Leopard status update then go on to talk about iLife '08. After that, he'll introduce
the new iMac and maybe something regarding the Cinema Displays and maybe even MacPros. ;)

Yeah, Cinema displays would be great especially with a slight price drop. In order of what Id like to see the most this is my list:

1. Mid range Desktop with desktop processors
2. New iMac
3. Cinema Displays
4. iLife

Uh... I bought my iMac G5 w/ iSight the day it was announced at a B&M store.

Palisades Center in West Nyack, NY.
OTOH, when the iMac G5 was first introduced, the 20" model didn't arrive in stores for several weeks, IIRC. And most of the current MBPs have yet to arrive. Not to mention when Mac Pro users waited weeks to get models with upgraded video cards.

Yes, Apple sometimes has things available at the time they are announced, but when they are, they are generally the base models.

Forgive me for asking if this has been answered already, but is there going to be a Spoiler Free link to the keynote if there is one? I love watching Stevenotes without a clue what has actually been announced :)

I bet a half a billion baht (thats roughly .83¢) that the big announcment is that Apple (no computer) is outsourcing its personal pc computer division over to some third party company in china and distributed here by dell or hp. Yeah, so there.

I'll take that bet so pony up. Oh and that won't be .83 cents but $15,290,519 at todays rate give or take a baht or two.

I ordered a 20" iMac about 2 days before I got wind of this rumor. Its unopened and on its way back tomorrow after I hear the announcement. I can't wait to get a next generation iMac. :D

I'm hoping for a sleaker body (maybe brushed aluminium?) with a higher RAM ceiling (and maybe a 1x1gb stock RAM config rather than 2x512mb), new processors (desktop? quad-core? more FSB speed would be nice), a blu-ray or HD-dvd drive, new keyboard, and better remote control. I'm hoping they'll bring the 20" brightness up to 24" specs, and increase contrast on both. I do a lot of photo editing and love all the help I can get.

I'm also hoping for the announcement of new iLife (I'm a musician who loves GarageBand and would love to see improvements), shipping on the new iMacs.

And free upgrades to Leopard for all machines shipping after 8/7 would be a nice announcment. :D

OH, and I hope everything is shipping tomorrow. I've been waiting on a new iMac for a long time since my Powerbook finally keeled over and died.

While a redesign of the iMac for tomorrow is very likely, and may not be the only announcement, I would strongly advise that all of you who are posting lists of everything that you think will be announced not get your hopes up. Don't forget, last time Apple hosted an event of this sort, all we got was an unimpressive update to the Mac mini, the introduction of the iPod HiFi, and the leather case for the iPod that I think sold about 14 units.

I would bet against another price-drop on displays Tuesday. The prices just dropped 4 months ago.

Yes but hopefully apple learnt from their mistake of overhyping an event.... fun new products, yeh ipod case is really fun,

I dont think apple would do another mediocre invite only event.

so much apples desktop everything is in need of refreshing...if they don't do it now they'll have postponed it long enough where they can wait forever

therefore i say

mac pro
iMac
iLife
iWork
Mac Mini
ACD

at least 3 of those will be updated...but which ones?

new imac - maybe, update likely, end of gma950 for sure
ilife/leopard maybe a bumped up schedule?
macpro updates to cards, maybe top end ghz
mini - gone or bumped to much better (need to entice people to get it)

possibly 17" macbook pro lcd screens

Only one day to wait so who knows

I just want an iMac update. I've been waiting a while for one and it'll be ace to finally see the rumors come true if possible.

Not too bothered at the look of it, i know it'll look good and be impressive.

Will be nice to see if a new iPod is released too, but i don't really care too much about that, my 80gb is doing me just fine!

Dumb question and I dont want to go back 29 pages in..but has this event even been confirmed? Or is there overwhelmingly convincing evidence that it will take place?

Yes. The press and such were called in by telephone rather than hard invite this time. It was confirmed it will be Mac only and will NOT be about iPods.

It would be extremely odd if it was anything other than an iMac update as the keyboard was essentially confirmed by Apple as being the real thing (actively getting everyone to take it down) and the event is about Macs. The Mac Mini is out-dated to the point of them dropping it and the MacPro is already where it needs to be in terms of updates, so the iMac it is!
